Hiya. Thought I'd start a nice fun one.

I don't straighten my hair. Have long choppy thick dark blonde which I'm about to put highlights in.

Am quite thin but have hips, but really flat stomach. Have to watch my bum but still look good in skinny jeans. Sometimes we a shirt black body on dress, leg warders and biker boots. Do the whole black nails, good jewellry thing.

I also have a ghost dress, floor length, great fabric, wear with flat suede flip flops. So I like that sort of thing too.

Mum didn't allow us to choose our clothes at all. Had a very bad upbringing and clothes wee the last thing on my mind so now enjoy that side of life.

This year fancy a long yellow sundress and will wear a headband.

Most of my great clothes are second hand. Like silk camisoles from ebay, all saints stuff, religion sometimes. End up in flat shoes as walk a lot, wish I was still wearing heels. Don't miss the suit thing from corporate days. Like wearing nail varnish. Got a boyfriend who is a musician so go to loads of gigs and see the girls there. Keeps me young I think as am forty this year!!!

Sorry for the massive post! Have had wine!! Anyone fancy taking about clothes?

Thanks. I just need the energy to lose some weight and take it for there. Am going to make hair appointment tomorrow. And I did get my eyebrows shaped yesterday.

Puddles1234 · 23/02/2014 20:28

That's good. Did that make you feel better?

Why not join a slimming club?

WipsGlitter · 23/02/2014 20:29

I look good for work. Nice dresses, hair done and good make up. In fact my boss did a double take last week and said I looked very glam!

It's my casual look I struggle with.

WipsGlitter · 23/02/2014 20:30

God no - fat fighters? So not me!!

Puddles1234 · 23/02/2014 20:31

Well there you go! That's hardly invisible. You should dress like that all of the time.

My motto has always been 'Better to be overdressed rather than underdressed'

Takingbackmonday · 23/02/2014 20:32

Sort of pseudo-sloane, postgrad student with too much eyeliner and unbrushed long ash blonde hair.

It's okay though, because I am a 25 year old pg student from the shire Grin

Lots of ankle boots, smallish skirts, oversized jumpers, layers, skinny jeans, leggings etc. Then MORE eyeliner.

I think I can get away with it as I'm a size 6-8, curvy with no waist because I spend too much time in the gym killing the crazy

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 23/02/2014 20:36

Lo at cashmere lounge suit. :) I love cashmere jumpers but the idea of cashmere trews makes me come over all sweaty. Grin

Theoldhag · 23/02/2014 20:36

Can you not use your work look as template and 'dress it down' for casual? I find charity shops and eBay fantastic for bargain clothing in lovely fabrics.

kerstina · 23/02/2014 20:36

I love clothes and makeup more now than I ever have. Brilliant choices to be made with online shopping, its easier than ever.
Plus I suppose fading looks means I strive harder to look more stylish.
I am 5 2'' but can add a couple of inches with my fly wedges that I love. Size 6-8. Natural loose hair don't really like structured styles so tend to just put it up in a pony or sparkly clip. Don't wear much jewellery just a silver ring and watch and star pendant.
Favourite clothes skinny jeans from prim ark and river island. Pretty cardigans with mismatched buttons from white stuff. Olive cashmere jumper from Uniqlo. Have a beautiful breton top with diamante collar that I got from juicy coutures clearance. Love sparkles have some mint green ballerinas bought years ago from joules that I still wear and love. Have a lipsy black tiered gauzy dress also bought years ago. So for me its falling in love with certain clothes rather than having a style.

Puddles1234 · 23/02/2014 20:39

Remus a cashmere loungesuit is so incredibly comfortable everyone should have one. And not at all sweaty! Grin

Inthebeginning · 23/02/2014 20:40

5ft 6 size 18/20 (was a 24/26 so feels nice!) I am vintage quirk ha ha! For Work (secondary school teacher) I wear tea dresses and fitted cardigans.
For home I wear skinny jeans or leggings. Sometimes tunics, or vest, fitted cardy and scarf. or tshirt and blazer.
my hair is 1940's/50's and cats eyes eye liner.
Going to be a mum soon so trying to stockpiles (ebay) casual clothes for maternity leave with a toddler! Grin

myalias · 23/02/2014 20:46

My daytime look is sloane meets boho and evening out wear skinnies, sheer tops or structured dresses and heels. I have a good selection of coats, jackets and boots which work well for a winter look. I experiment with different hairstyles and love make up especially nail varnish.

NinjaCow · 23/02/2014 21:09

5ft7, size 8. Ginger hair, blue eyes. Hair is just past shoulder length- I wear it in a messy bun or a ponytail, sometimes a loose braid. I like slouchy but tight clothes because I can't be bothered to deal with looking nice all the time, but if going outside the house, then skinny jeans or jeggings are what I always wear. Average boobs, small bum, longish legs I guess- my feet look disproportionate.

I am vampire-like pale and barely tan, I just get freckles! Am 21. Makeup wise- very minimal, maybe some tinted lipgloss, some concealer sometimes. Like graphic t-shirts, shorts and capris in warm weather, tank tops, and loose long tops, nothing tight or grippy.

scarlet76 · 23/02/2014 21:12

I'm late 30s, 5ft and size 6-8. I run a lot and so am toned. Best features are toned arms and flat tummy. I enjoy fashion and feel I have more idea about what suits me now than I did when I was younger.
I think of my style as classic with quirks:
Work - pencil skirt, cigarette pants, quirky print fitted shirts, fitted cashmere crewnecks, tweed blazer, scarves, pointy low heel ankle boots, heeled round toe courts, trench
Home - skinny jeans, boy cut jeans, breton tops, skinny cashmere, quirky blouses, scarves, parka, biker boots, converse, satchel bag
Going out - LBD, cigarette pants, pleather skinnys, lace blouses, quirky necklaces, pattern tights, coloured heels, heeled ankle boots, leather biker jacket, animal print clutch

I have shortish hair - currently asymmetric bob - which I wear slightly messy as per the natural texture of my hair. I have quite a lot of greys. Instead of a block colour which I think can look unnatural, I disguise with dirty blonde highlights

I wear light make up day to day and when going out.

Catrin · 23/02/2014 21:26

Knocking 40. 5'8" size 10 -12 depending on shop.

Work - slim trousers, ankle boots/brogues, layered tops, parka
pencil skirt, boots, top for meetings/presentation (work v casual)

Home - anything.

Have a fairly miserable ongoing battle with body dysmorphia. Wear black, pretty much only black. Feel v conspicuous with anything else, although am trying.
It is not in my head though that polo neck jumpers make me look like I am wearing a shelf below my neck.

LoveVintage · 23/02/2014 22:08

I am 50, 5'3", booby but with a waist. I now have short hair, which I like to look messy, it is copper red. (sadly not all natural any more) For working, (law) I like to dress a little bit quirkily and vintagey - dresses, cardigans and shoe boots, or if just behind a desk cord or a line knee length skirts with coloured tights and little tops or cardigans. I did the whole power suit dressing in the past. Now I dress how I like for work, probably as I finally feel that I do know what I am talking about and don't have to hide behind shoulder pads! I like nice jackets, chunky jewellery, felt brooches, red/brown lippy. For casual I like relaxed skinny jeans, sloppy jumpers, especially stripey ones, biker boots.

I probably weigh the most I have ever done, though not massively overweight, but I am enjoying clothes and putting together outfits more, now that I am a bit older, I genuinely feel I wear what I want to and what makes me feel good, and don't care about being judged by others.

CambridgeBlue · 23/02/2014 22:11

I'm 5'2ish and a size 12-14 with a small waist, big boobs and bum and short stubby legs. I hate my dinner lady arms and less than flat midriff but I do have quite nice shoulders . I've got very short cropped hair which I suppose is my signature look in that I've had it in a similar style for years and think it suits me.

I work at home so apart from the odd night out or wedding I rarely wear anything very smart which is good as I don't pull it off very well - I feel much more me in casual clothes. Comfort is my top priority - can't bear anything too tight or itchy fabrics. I suit more fitted styles which flatter my shape but nothing too restrictive.

I guess I wear the typical 30-40s mum uniform a lot of the time - skinnies, jersey tops, fitted jumpers, biker or ankle boots, Converse, lots of scarves, parka etc. I don't live in a very trendy area though or mix with many people who're that into fashion, so I feel quite stylish if a bit unimaginative.

I like nice, mainly natural, fabrics and wear a lot of neutrals - black, white, grey, taupe etc - with jewel colours in winter and brighter stuff in summer (love the odd bit of neon - it's my 80s roots!) I don't tend to wear much pattern apart from the odd stripy top but last year I bought a dress printed with vintage style bikes and I love it so much that I'm wondering about introducing a bit more pattern into my wardrobe.

I don't think my look is wildly exciting but after 40 odd years I know what works for me and my lifestyle. I know that I love distressed jeans (that 80s thing again!), hoodies and trainers (at my most casual I dress like a 14 year old boy! But I also like high heels (even though I can't walk in them), cigarette pants, tulip shaped dresses and trench coats so there is a glamorous side to me, it just doesn't get seen very often.

I look like a tramp.

escape · 23/02/2014 22:29

Loving this thread!
I love fashion and have a good idea of what suits me and not aft=raid of colour or prints.

I do have a huge problem currently with all the weight I am carrying round front. My ' 9 months gone' ( I'm not ) belly means it is practically impossible to find clothes for my bottom half that fit. Nothing is high waisted enough, and no wants the handy over look, note to be constantly pulling trousers up.

Any tips as I am getting desperate - down to one pair of jeans currently with regards to everyday wear.. Yes, I know I need to lose weight...

Catypillar · 23/02/2014 22:42

5'9", size 14, reasonably large chest, flabby tummy, skinny arms and legs, small bum. I don't think my dress sense fits into a category!

Work clothes- I'm a dr so have to look smart but still able to kneel on floor in emergency, visit patients in houses in variable states of hygiene, etc. I like wearing a dress and cardigan or jacket- dresses knee length or shorter but not too short, jackets mostly velvet 70s ones from eBay (I have quite a lot of these as a passing interest in vintage velvet jackets coincided with a hypomanic episode last year and I bid on every one I could see...) Main colours are black, grey, blue, purple, green. I also have a few pairs of slim-fitted trousers in bright-ish colours, and I like skirts from All Saints. Most of my work clothes come from Phase Eight (the younger end of the range), New Look, Pepperberry, Mint Velvet, Promod, Uniqlo and I can't wear most heels, just can't walk in them- I have one pair of heeled shoe-boots and the rest are flat, my most-worn ones are knee-high biker boots and sparkly silver ballet pumps, I also have some brogues, pixie boots with chains round them and grey suede lace-ups.

My hair is dyed red (naturally brown but was auburn when I was a kid so the red suits me). I work with older people so try to look a bit sensible especially as many of them dress smartly to come up to the hospital! If I worked with teenagers I would have the blue hair that I would like to have... It goes curly if I leave it alone but tends to get in a mess by the end of the day so if I have time (not usually) I dry it with a hot brush to straighten it. It's just above bra strap length.

Make up- black eyeliner, smoky eyes or coloured eyeshadow that matches what I'm wearing (am reliably informed that this is "not cool" which doesn't interest me one bit), relatively understated lipstick and occasional tinted moisturiser

I am really scruffy at home as I spend half my time walking the dog. Bit of a tendency towards rock chick/goth stuff, skinny jeans as they're easiest to tuck into wellies, footwear is either said wellies, converse or hiking boots. Paramo jacket and rucksack.

Drywhiteplease · 23/02/2014 22:48

Mid 40s, size 10, small pear, no boobs, bobbed hair.
Always wear make up. Don't know how I'd describe my style....not edgy, not rock chic......I adore Julianne Moore's style and have similar colouring.
I try for a chic, classic with a nod to trends.
Lots of dresses, love fitted clothing, love heels, animal print, scarves, statement jewellery, tailored coats and fitted jackets, love my stone leather biker, jacket, skinnies and boyfriend jeans, pointed slipper style flats, don't do big prints, neon or big logos.

Catypillar · 23/02/2014 22:50

Also I make most of my own jewellery- silver, glass beads, semi-precious (but relatively cheap) gemstones, I like long necklaces and big earrings. I also have a pair of silver earrings in the shape of the chemical structure of dopamine which I wear a lot.
