forehead 11s...what can I use?

Got really bad 11s on my forehead. Can't afford botox or anything similar (and not sure I would want it). Skin is prone to oiliness. Are there any magic creams/make up to make them less noticeable?

The problem in 50s is weight gain, I prob eat half what I did 20 years ago - and still a half stone more than I want. I looked great at 50, I don't look great at nearer 60. Sad

Have botox and a little restylane to smooth 11s.

Lurking I think the upside is that, if you can reconcile yourself to losing your looks (and that's not easy), it can be quite liberating. I don't know whether that makes sense and I certainly don't mean I'm any less vain - far from it!! But I'm not bothered about looking pretty or any more, I aim for stylish instead.

Plus I did get lucky in that, during the menopause, I grew boobs for the first time ever (pregnancy aside). So I have practically an hourglass body shape these days - even if it is getting saggy Grin

Suzannewithaplan · 14/02/2014 14:34

Flos, it does make sense because we all do lose our looks in the sense that we lose our youthfulness and trying to hold onto it indefinitely is only going to make a person unhappy.

It should be possible to be stylish/well groomed at any age if desired?

noddyholder · 14/02/2014 14:44

You can still be attractive Pretty is teens and twenties I always think. My dp is 54 this year and looks amazing no lines still the same trouser size as in his 20s but he is bald!

lurkingaround · 14/02/2014 14:50

It does make perfect sense Flo, but I'm still a bit vain. How I will reconcile myself to losing my looks (and I am no Elle McPherson!) I don't know. I will fight the good fight for a while yet!
I can imagine it is liberating. I do wish the western world was more accepting of aging/didn't idealize youth.

Suzannewithaplan · 14/02/2014 14:56

Beauty is subjective but promoting the idea that youth epitomises beauty is good for profits.

I mean there's a lot of money to be made from encouraging us all to be unhappy about the effects of aging.

I susoect that's one of the main driving forces.

noddyholder · 14/02/2014 14:56

I am a curious mixture of vain and bone idle which does make ageing a pita.

noddyholder · 14/02/2014 14:57

Yes the youth thing is huge. I don't think any of my mates or me look younger than our ages just less haggard!

Floisme · 14/02/2014 15:00

Oh I'm still vain. I'm super vain!

Floisme · 14/02/2014 15:06

I mean there's a lot of money to be made from encouraging us all to be unhappy about the effects of aging.

Totally agree with that. When I was in my twenties and even thirties, crows feet were just part of life. You might not exactly have welcomed them but you just shrugged them off. Then the cosmetics industry realised that, if they could get women to feel bad about them, they could make a killing.

Suzannewithaplan · 14/02/2014 15:12

As medical & cosmetic technology advances it will be possible to do more and more to counteract and reverse aging, thus more money to be made from the valorisation of youth.

The pressure to look young is likely to increase and extend to men, since men are a largely untapped source of profit.

maggiemight · 14/02/2014 15:16

To be honest I don't want to look young proudly gets out phone to show pics of grandchildren I just don't like looking tired and grumpy!

And that is how you look if you have deep lines down from your mouth and a deep V between your eyes.

Helpyourself · 14/02/2014 19:45

^^ that's just it Maggie its not about looking young- I don't look 45 I just look like a very tired and angry 35 yo!

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 15/02/2014 12:22

aparently cleansing with pure shea butter then rubbing a bit in every night helps, not tried it yet

peasandlove · 15/02/2014 19:50

I tested out some medical tape stuff last night instead of the frownies, and it's better Grin I get botox on my 11s but the little ridge doesnt go away (hopefully it's just not getting worse) so I used some of that white papery type of tape you'd find in a medical kid and smoothed out my 11 and put that on overnight. I think it's helped, I'll keep doing it and see what happens. The problem with botox is the ongoing financial commitment to it and it may not last as long on some. I have to get mine after about 10 weeks and there is definitely movement coming back after only 8

kaumana · 15/02/2014 19:59

Having your number 11/1 botoxed will not make you look younger just a fresher version of yourself. TBH you probably won't get any comments other than "you look well"
