Anyone else have constant desire to have hair cut really short ...

... but know it looks better longer?

I think there is little doubt that I look better to everyone else in the world with longer hair. But I have a constant desire to have it cropped short. Every time I go to the hairdresser I have to suppress the urge...

This isn't a real problem, but I wondered whether anyone else has the same?

I have long hair, shortest I've ever had it is bob length but I always end up growing it again. I know that the right short cut can look fantastic on some people but if it's not quite right, can be terribly ageing. I have seen a couple of friends who have done this recently, one now looks like Deirdrie Barlow which is a shame. I feel awful for her.
I think it's one of these things that you can't do on a whim. For me personally I think longer hair, coloured well can knock years off a woman. If short is for you then it's all down to face shape, features and making sure it's the right cut. It might look good on a celebrity but like with a lot of things, doesn't always translate well on normal people!

I have this urge to cut all my hair off, too! It was so tempting when I cut my friend's hair with clippers, I kept imagining all my long hair just falling down and my head feeling lighter.

Unfortunately, while I'm not huge (12/14), my face seems too fleshy and my eyes too small. Plus the back of my head is quite flat, I think. For example, hairbands just don't suit me.

I think I'd probably look either mumsy or masculine with short hair. And I have no imagination when it comes to styling my hair, so it would end up as a mumsy utility cut, and as I am equally unimaginative when it comes to clothes, it's probably not a good idea. Short hair looks good with cutesy/artsy clothes.

Would anyone with short hair be up for posting pictures of their hair? I'd find it more helpful to see 'real' people rather than celebrities/models who have 15 people to spend 3 hours making their hair look good.

Oh yes, me. I had it very short about 7-8 years ago and loved it. Would do it again in a heartbeat IF I was as young and slim as I was then. I have put a bit of weight on though, not lots, but I'm having to buy size 12 jeans now, and as a pear shape I feel like I need a decent head of hair to balance me out Blush

I love the elfin, gamine look. DD had her hair cropped last year (she is 8) and she looked just like a gorgeous little wood elf, tiny, perfectly-proportioned, big chocolatey eyes and soft cap of dark hair Envy

It's really easy to cut your hair yourself with some clippers and some thinning scissors. I have been doing it for years and get my hair just the way I like it. I got so frustrated paying out £30+ every month and coming out with some really horrible cuts. I like my hair really short with very little fringe and wafty/elfin bits at the ears ( but none of those bouffy pieces bits wax onto my face like they give you in the hair dressers).

Firstly I run over the top of my hair with no10. At the sides and back I use no8. I then go through and texturise my hair with the thinning scissors ESP the crown, fringe and sides over the ears.
I like to spike up the hair on my crown a bit and use hair putty to give it some texture.

When it gets a bit heavy I can sort it out whenever I need to.

I also think it can look mote flattering if you have padded out a bit to go short- particularly if you crop it close at the sides.Your eyes will look huge too.....
