Anyone else have constant desire to have hair cut really short ...

... but know it looks better longer?

I think there is little doubt that I look better to everyone else in the world with longer hair. But I have a constant desire to have it cropped short. Every time I go to the hairdresser I have to suppress the urge...

This isn't a real problem, but I wondered whether anyone else has the same?

Of definately! I've spent over a year growing my hair into a rubbish wispy bob, and I'm desperate to get it cropped back to a gamine pixie cut...

BUT.... the hairdresser I used to go to when going short I haven't used as the price has rocketed up, so I need to find a hairdresser who is good at pixie cuts local to me... I think that's what's stopping me... a bad haircut is horrible, but a bad short haircut is a problem that can't be too easily rectified!

LittleBabyPigsus · 27/01/2014 23:53

I do all the time, mostly because my hair is very thick and it gets so heavy when long. However, I am scared of the upkeep more than anything if I get a v short haircut.

Innogen · 28/01/2014 00:04

Is the OP Miley Cyrus?

LittleBabyPigsus · 28/01/2014 00:26

Miley's hair looks bad-ass though.

Love this thread!!
Currently have a short neat bob but want to go proper short. Not sure what's stopping me other than a fear of looking terrible. The Michelle Williams cut is my ideal. Am off to go hairdresses on Friday and thinking of getting asymmetric bob a la Frankie from the Saturdays as a stepping stone to the cut I really want!

ClockWatchingLady · 28/01/2014 09:35

Innogen, you outed me

Me ... I have had the urge for years (at least 15) for the majority of the time a jaw length bob has satisfied the itch for a while, but last year I went proper cropped and loved it, but got lazy and didn't get it cut enough and ended up growing it out (also getting married this year so used that as inspiration long hair looks better on a bride etc)

But, I am booked in to the hairdressers for Friday and I'm going pixie cut - full on short short.... Unless I chicken out which is unlikely.

I am just so fed up of tying my hair back in a pony every day, at least with short hair I will have a style and I have a long enough face that I don't look too chubby - if I could get rid of the bags under my eyes I would be on to a winner!

JoyceDivision · 28/01/2014 21:24

booked my hair app in two weeks to get cropped! Yay!

Lulabellarama · 28/01/2014 21:50

I've decided to just go for it and book an appointment tomorrow!

PoshPaula · 29/01/2014 09:20

I'm actually quite jealous.

I'm growing mine ready for The Wedding this summer but it's driving me nuts and I would love a short bob or something.

Lulabellarama · 29/01/2014 11:14

I am hoping to get an appointment for sunday and will post some pics. I'm fairly sure I'll hate it when it's first done, as it takes me a while to get used to anything.

Leedsavril · 29/01/2014 11:26

Hi, I have just cut my long hair all off short and I love it, I did post a message about it with an "Update" post which shows my pictures.
I think that if you want to cut off your hair then that is the right thing to do as long as it is your choice and not a stylist pushing you into it. I have no regrets at all. If your sat in the salon and think to yourself ... I so want it short......why don't you just have it done........do it!

JoyceDivision · 29/01/2014 21:45

leeds...do you have pics still? and where did you get it cut (am hoping the lleds bit will mean it was somewhere there!)

LyndaCartersBigPants · 29/01/2014 21:49

I find that when my hair is longer I just end up with a ponytail, so the effect is just a very small amount of hair surrounding my face. With a short cut I get more body and shape, I'm more likely to actually style it as it takes so much less time to dry and straighten etc, so it actually looks more feminine and styled than longer hair.

Disclaimer: I have been known to cut my own hair and never pay more than £20 for a haircut, so I am not necessarily to be listened to.

hiccupgirl · 29/01/2014 21:51

Me, me...I had it short for about 5 yrs and looking at photos it really aged me. It's now in a shoulder length bob which I know is much more flattering but I have to resist the urge to have it all cut off every time I go to the hairdresser.

GreenRedBlueYellowPurple · 29/01/2014 22:30

I have never, ever had this desire :-)

AdmiralData · 11/02/2014 00:10

I had the desire. So I went to my cupboard, took out my husbands hair clippers and did a number 3 all over. I am a size 22. I don't (yet) have many chins, I have (apparently) quite striking eyes. People tell me it shouldn't but does really suit me. I will never grow my hair again as it made me miserable (have had thinning hair for ten years).

scarlet76 · 11/02/2014 06:14

I got the asymmetric cut I mentioned further up the thread and love it! Will probably go a little shorter still next cut. I'm finding it easy to manage. I'm teeny tiny both in height and weight so I think short suits me better.

Bodicea · 11/02/2014 06:23

Strange. I just had a dream/ nightmare about cutting hair short . Instantly regretted it.
If I could do the blunt fringe thingy I with a short bob would be tempted as think that looks oh so cute and fashionable. Unfortunately I have a strong cow lick so no chance and. Any bob looks frumpy on me

ocelot41 · 11/02/2014 06:30

I like short and I like long - in between is a bugger to style all the time! I had it cropped when DC2 reached toddlerhood and I needed a hair style I could 'do' in two choruses of Old McDonald (max). Oh and he would SCREAM when I turned a hairdryer on so finger drying a bonus.

Generally I find it v flattering and easy if I keep it soft around my face - longer sweeping fringe, wispy bits round cheeks, use make up and highlights.

Downside is when I am.knackered and black under the eyes it can look a bit 'Prisoner Cell Block H' though so am on permanent look out for good under eye cover! Plus you need much more regular cuts than with long hair - I usually push it to 8 weeks but that's the max. So it does get expensive...

LettertoHermioneGranger · 11/02/2014 06:52

I've always wanted a mohawk, since I was a teenage punk. Never done it since I know it would look terrible with my face shape.

I've wanted my hair shorter for a while now, back in a bob type thing like I used to, but I'm holding back as I want my hair long for my wedding. The fact I'm not engaged is irrelevant. It would surely happen as soon as I cut my hair, and there wouldn't be enough time to grow it out again.

saintmerryweather · 11/02/2014 06:52

I have got really fine hair so I cant really have it short but I would love to have mine like pink's hair. Shaved on the sides and longer on the top, really pale blonde. No way could I pull that off

AdmiralData · 11/02/2014 13:03

Letter Another here who would love a mohawk!!! I'd go for it too but the baldness on my head is directly where the mohawk strip would be ... I could always sport the Friar Tuck look I suppose :D

LyndaCartersBigPants · 11/02/2014 13:29

Wow very admirable Admiral! I did that once too. It's very liberating to be rid of it all isn't it? I always think thin hair looks better short too, whether male or female.

emmyloo2 · 11/02/2014 13:34

I have super short hair modeled on Jennifer Lawrence's latest cut. I suit short hair plus I find it more stylish. I just love short hair. It's very liberating although not eveyone's cup of tea.
