I can't decide if they are 'me'

Russell and Bromley

My husband thinks they are hideous Blush

Oh dear. I usually try to be gentle as everyone has different tastes and that's great but they are bloody hideous! Shock

Even a trendy 18 year old model doing ugly chic couldn't pull those off and Dot Cotton would turn her nose up at them.

BritabroadinAsia · 26/01/2014 06:31

To paraphrase Redbeard Rum in Blackadder - you have a man's pair of shoes, my Lord....

I know brogues for girls have been around for ever, but I think you could achieve a similar effect in a more attractive way. Much more attractive way.

Chottie · 26/01/2014 06:39

I hate them too - sorry!
But I must be honest my OH would love them.

MadIsTheNewNormal · 26/01/2014 06:44

Awful. Unless you are one of those women who deliberately tries to look very masculine.

bettykt · 26/01/2014 06:51

I think they are absolutely lovely. Great style, lovely colour, I'd buy them if I could work them into my current wardrobe. They are very much en vogue at the moment.

DrNick · 26/01/2014 06:59

HIDEOUS

ChishandFips33 · 26/01/2014 07:19

Not keen myself and I wear brogues (manly ones but with trousers)

Buy Smilerc's link for a laugh if you really like them but lead hubby to believe they are the pricey ones

Tbh the Clarks version are less offensive, the straps curve differently which for some reason hurts eyes slightly less

ChishandFips33 · 26/01/2014 07:27

even Google are struggling a quick search for womens styling quickly leads in to mens styling and Nombrechanger's geezers brother has some too

ChishandFips33 · 26/01/2014 07:29

...and he smuggles budgies! Shock

ButICantaloupe · 26/01/2014 09:48

Finally, bettykt they are lovely aren't they?

I really not like any of the Clarke shoes, sorry! I think I'm just into hideous AND expensive shoes.

OP posts:
AndTwoBits · 26/01/2014 09:50

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say they are fabulous! The clarks version are cheap looking.

ButICantaloupe · 26/01/2014 09:51

Yes! Thank you AndTwoBits

I see all the fashionistas are up this morning Wink

I would take a lovely well made pair of R&B over the alternatives that were suggested. Although the Hamble Oak in a similar colour are nice. Do you have to be quite thin to wear them? Do you wear them with skinny jeans and pencil skirts?

Specialbrew · 26/01/2014 10:14

I like them, and I'd wear them, but probably in a black or at a push dark brown. I pretty much live in brogues and Chelsea boots outside of work though, so those shoes would fit in with how I like to dress anyway (shirts and wide leg trousers/skinny jeans).

I just bought a pair of wide leg Stella McCartney trousers and that style of shoe would look great with those and a white t-shirt or shirt tucked in.

If I was much (much) younger I would wear them with mid thigh skirts and dresses.

ButICantaloupe · 26/01/2014 10:31

They also have them in black and ox-blood. I really like the tan ones though.

I think I like the shoes VB is wearing here but I think the R&B ones are more clunky than that?

OP posts:
AndTwoBits · 26/01/2014 10:38

They are divine in the ox blood. I would wear them sockless with skinnies or with opaques and jumper dresses.

HolgerDanske · 26/01/2014 11:45

I like them.

ButICantaloupe · 26/01/2014 12:11

I like the ox-blood, too. Not sure if I would have enough on my wardrobe to wear them with though.

OP posts:
smilerc · 26/01/2014 14:09

They are gorgeous in ox blood. I wish I had the money for them. Smile

itsbetterthanabox · 26/01/2014 14:14

I think they're pretty cool. Worn with tights and a tea dress. I love all brogues Smile

bigkidsdidit · 26/01/2014 14:20

I really like them.

MiniTheMinx · 26/01/2014 14:27

I like them, very trendy at the moment, look great with slim fitting trousers, not with a dress or skirt.

I like these

www.russellandbromley.co.uk/loafers-lace-ups/abacrombie/invt/122671

I have shoes from Russell and Bromley, some I have had 15 plus years and still going strong, worth every penny.

mathanxiety · 26/01/2014 14:40

I think the problem with them is they're not clunky enough. They're masculine shoes trying to be ladylike and refined. They lack the unabashed thuggishness of Doc Martins. A case of neither fish nor fowl.

mathanxiety · 26/01/2014 14:41

The Oxford style is far nicer imo and not trying to be something else.

WhereIsMyHat · 26/01/2014 14:56

I really like them, they're cool. I'm seriously surprised at the slating they've had here. Saying that, I'd prefer them with laces.
