Recommend to me a cleanser where I don't have to splash my face like a TV ad

I hate having to splash my face, especially at night - I don't like going to bed with wet hair and the water drips down my arms, getting my pyjama sleeves all wet Confused I don't mind a wet face cloth to remove, but when cleansers say "apply to damp skin" I immediately feel soggy cloth on my arms. Are there any cleansers I can just slap directly onto my face at night without any fannying about over the sink? (Me: late 30s, oily tendencies but in a very dry climate, moderate budget, prefer non-animal-tested stuff). Ta!

Have you tried Liz Earle. I apply it to dry skin and then remove with a hot flannel and no drips. Tis very good.

Sharpkat · 25/01/2014 06:58

Also came on to say Liz Earle. Apply to dry skin and then just rub off with the muslin cloth. Very simple.

Almost all non foaming cleansers go onto dry skin, and since I gave up foaming cleansers my skin has been so much better.

The Body Shop gel oil cleanser (something like Revitalise range I think) is my current favourite. Massage onto dry skin then remove with a damp cloth and follow with toner and moisturiser.

Avene cleanse (available at Boots) and Dermalogica's ultra calming cleanser are both wipes off with cotton wool/tissue. No water required. I've used both and can recommend them.

Have a look at hot cloth cleansing as described by sali hughes.

I've just started doing this with Simple cleansing lotion. I really like it, my skin looks much better and pores are cleaner and therefore smaller I think. :)
I chopped up a couple of the dcs old muslin squares.

evertonmint · 25/01/2014 07:58

Another hot cloth cleansing fan here. Try Superdrug Vitamin E or Instant Radiance (? Something like that, in a green tube) hot cloth cleansers, or Body Shop (Nutriganics gel oil cleanser or camomile butter) Alllovely products, ignore instructions and put on dry face then hot wet cloth off. My skin has never looked better and I don't get soggy hair any more :)

If you are on a budget, Garnier do a good cleanser that you apply just with cotton pads. Can't remember the name but it is the blue one that you have to shake before use.

chocolatespiders · 25/01/2014 08:06

I have been using the loreal water cleanser in skin perfection range - normally good price in asda. Onto cotton wool and wipe over face at night. Morning I use the face scrub from same range it is like apricots smashed up.

Parsnipcake · 25/01/2014 08:09

I used to be a fan if decleor cleansing milk but now use Olay age defying as it's about £2 on Ocado and definitely fine with cotton wool and no water.

SilkStalkings · 25/01/2014 08:58

I just use make up remover wipes - cleansing and toning in one. You can tear them in half so they last longer.

Weelady77 · 25/01/2014 09:07

Reading with interest I've been using l'oreal foam wash which is fine I just dampen my face with cloth then put it on and remove with cloth but my nose has became quite dry!

I've just discovered elemis cleansing balm, oh my, it's heavenly! I also love clarins pure melt cleansing gel

escargot · 25/01/2014 15:49

You need a micellar water! They are basically cleansing waters that you put on with cotton wool just like a toner but they take off make-up. Lancôme and Decleor do the best ones I've ever come across, Clarins do one too.

Moisturise afterwards as normal, skip the toner stage or just turn the cotton wool over for a fresh swipe.
Hope that helps!

Hopefully · 25/01/2014 16:35

I use the clarins one step cleanser, can't remember what it's called but you shake it and just use cotton wool - suspect it's what escargot said. Love it, as i find any water so drying on my skin, and this doesn't need rinsing at all.

4amInsomniac · 25/01/2014 16:51

I'm a big micellar water fan too: Superdrug own brand is very inexpensive, and I find it as good as other more expensive brands.

Jemster · 25/01/2014 18:57

Hopefully, I am considering treating myself to the clarins one you have. How long would you say a bottle lasts you? It's a bit out of my budget really but my skin needs some tlc at the moment.

evertonmint · 25/01/2014 19:17

Jemster - you may find that the hot cloth method gives your skin enough tlc that you can use high street products. The method is great and I've found I can spend less on skincare products by doing it. Obviously go ahead with the Clarins if you want to (I love their products and use their blue orchid oil every night) but you may find a cheaper cleanser works just fine with this method.

chipsandpeas · 25/01/2014 19:26

im a big fan of clinique cleansing balm, easy to put on and just wipe off with a flannel really is brillaint for getting make up and other grime off

Hopefully · 25/01/2014 19:30

Jemster I've had it a couple of months and there's between 1/4 and 1/3 left in the bottle. It's been brilliant for my skin, really improved it - I have combination skin with flaky bits where most people have greasy bits and greasy temples. No breakouts or sore dry bits at all since using it.

ShreddedHoops · 25/01/2014 19:39

Soap and Glory Peaches and Clean cleanser is so good - can be applied to dry skin, then I splash it off as I like to avoid scrubbing at my skin which I always end up doing when I attempt hot cloth thing, and get little red broken veins appearing round my nose. I just use a wide headband to stop my hair getting wet, and stay quite low over the sink. Helps if you have a biggish sink. It's a quite strongly acidic cleanser, has really helped my pores in just a few uses.

itsbetterthanabox · 25/01/2014 23:50

Simple do a gel cleanser that you wipe of with cotton wool. Where it's gel it doesn't leave your face oily.
Or a miscellar water, they are brilliant wipe off cleansing waters. Lots of different brands do them.

K8Middleton · 25/01/2014 23:54

The best micellar cleansing solution is Bioderma

Buy it in French pharmacies or from Escentuals online. It's not even expensive.
