Clothes for larger lady

Alibongo33 · 24/01/2014 21:28

Hi,
I am size 22/24 (pear shape).
Where do larger ladies shop for nice clothes? Say Debenhams, M&S, Next etc or similar but for the larger 36 year old. I'm too big to fit in their clothes.
Any ideas? Shops or net?

Thanks

Curvissa online looks nice.Smile

Bishoplyn · 24/01/2014 21:38

Ulla Popken online is good.

tshirtsuntan · 24/01/2014 21:50

Asos curve

itsbetterthanabox · 24/01/2014 21:53

Asos curve which is online. New looks inspire range is good and h&m have a few nice bits in their plus size range.

ilovepowerhoop · 24/01/2014 21:57

Next do a larger size range online

itsbetterthanabox · 24/01/2014 22:00

Ilovepowerhoop. Do they? What size do they go up to?

MrsPnut · 24/01/2014 22:03

Next do some clothes in a larger size, curvissa has the odd nice thing in natural fabrics but their stock system is shit so don't bank on something arriving quickly.
Simply be is overpriced but the Joe Browns stuff is occasionally worth it and I buy some things from M&S and debenhams.
Next goes up to a 26, boden goes up to a 22 and m&s goes up to a 24.

ilovepowerhoop · 24/01/2014 22:08

next go up to a 26 - I find their sizing quite generous too so you may need to go down a size

bendyruler · 24/01/2014 23:02

h&m do a larger size range

Maverick66 · 24/01/2014 23:25

Finding size 22 is nigh on impossible. Basically if you are a size 22 you are doomed to frump heaven. It's all polyester man made rubbish. Simply Be is overpriced. Nothing is made to fit properly. Designers seem to think when you are a size 22 you have short arms ( everything has 3/4 length sleeves ) :( ? And 10 years older than you actually are! Why can't we have a choice at our size? Truly fed up with the choice and quality of the clothing out there. I'm 47 FFS hardly over the hill but I am condemned to frumpy rubbish and don't even get me started on Helen E cosmetics consultants who stalk me in Debenhams. Their brief is obviously to approach anybody over 40 and if they're large then they are an easy touch! Sorry Alibongo I know this isn't helpful for you and it's a bit ranty :)

williaminajetfighter · 24/01/2014 23:32

I would avoid Simply Be as the quality is very poor, nothing is lined etc. I'm the same size and would say - try John Lewis who carry a range of brands that go up to that size. Monsoon also has a good range and everything except their junior/boutique range goes up to a 22.

I also find size 18 at jaeger firs well as does the XL at The White Company. Ditto the largest sizes at Cos.

Good luck. It's a pain but getting better out there.

30SecondsToVenus · 24/01/2014 23:36

Asos curve is a godsend. I'm the same size as you and their stuff is lovely and property made

hiphipreplacement · 24/01/2014 23:41

Anna Scholz www.annascholz.com

Try Navabi www.navabi.co.uk

itsbetterthanabox · 24/01/2014 23:53

Dorothy Perkins does go to a 22 so you may be able to get some stuff there.

LittleBabyPigsus · 25/01/2014 02:26

I find Dorothy Perkins 22s to be very small and barely fitted me at a size 20. I am also a size 22-24 and mostly use New Look Inspire, ASOS Curve (by far the most fashionable), the very occasional Evans thing (mostly skater dresses). Simply Be is shit quality and so expensive, Joe Browns is weird festival-y stuff IMO but I realise it's my taste - I do think they're overpriced. There is Next but they're not really my thing.

I would use ModCloth if it wasn't for the ££££ shipping Sad

LittleBabyPigsus · 25/01/2014 02:28

FWIW I am 24, like ridiculous colours and prints and usually wear some kind of skater dress/leggings/Dr Martens combo, so feel free to ignore my advice.

pyjamaday · 25/01/2014 12:15

Another vote for asos curve, I'm a 22 and aged 43 they have been a godsend reasonably priced and fashionable. Agree simply be is overpriced and poor quality. Also really like some of the indigo range at m and s (although I know some will think that tantamount to blasphemy Grin ) and have had some nice stuff from next, think their normal size range goes up to 22 and fits me, also dorothy Perkins goes up to 22 and I don't find them small. It is frustrating though tend to find you have to spend ages looking for stuff and 80% of stuff I order goes back but that would prob be true even if I was a size 12!

mrssmith79 · 25/01/2014 12:20

Pink Clove? Have just ordered a few bits online from there. Asda and sainsburys sometimes. Also New Look for jeans - steer clear of the shiny polyester monstrosity rails though!

TollgateDebs · 25/01/2014 13:23

Try Taking Shape, which is relatively new to UK, but now has shops and on-line site. Pieces are often nicer in flesh but good sale at the moment. You'll need to have a good trawl, but you never know

RonaldMcDonald · 25/01/2014 13:35

Mango

LittleBabyPigsus · 25/01/2014 17:18

Mango only go up to a 20 or 22 (can't remember) and are on the small side - yes, even in the plus size range.

kitchensinkmum · 25/01/2014 17:22

Long tall sally do size 22.

hollyisalovelyname · 25/01/2014 20:36

Aren't Evans for the larger lady?Again, I think the quality is awful. Yet in magazines/ newspaper supplements they are recommended. I

LittleBabyPigsus · 25/01/2014 21:20

Holly Evans is pretty expensive (though not Simply Be expensive) and really mumsy and crap. I will get dresses and bras from there but not much else. Horrid foil print t-shirts and the like.

Yours Clothing can be OK but you have to hunt hard for anything not polyester - it is cheap though which is rare for plus sized clothes.

RonaldMcDonald · 25/01/2014 22:16

I'm sorry, my understanding was that the Mango plus size range was from a 12-24 thus falling within the size range of the OP
