What can I do for dry skin

Stillcomingtoterms · 18/01/2014 23:40

I normally moisturise in the morning with Avon anew moisturiser and then at night with a night cream. However my skin is still looking dry and my wrinkles around my eyes pretty bad.

Anyone guide me in the right direction?

If it's weather related then I have found Eucerin Atocontrol moisturise really helps my excema and peri oral derm.

HeeHiles · 18/01/2014 23:57

Are you drinking plenty of water? best moisturiser there is.

Locketjuice · 18/01/2014 23:59

Not for everyone but Oilatum works wonders for me, I always put it on my face Smile

ElBombero · 18/01/2014 23:59

Can't recommend la Roche posey enough

Your skin may be dehydrated rather than dry, or it could be both. Dry skin is lacking oil and dehydrated skin is lacking water.

You can tell if your skin is dehydrated as you're more prone to get fine lines. Products with hyaluronic acid are good for dehydrated skin and facial oils are great for dry and dehydrated.

Scarletohello · 19/01/2014 00:57

Eat good fats. Avocado, nuts etc. it does make a difference!

ElBombero · 19/01/2014 09:34

Which products contain hyaluronic acid?

SilkStalkings · 19/01/2014 17:01

How about going 100% natural with products? Natural Empathy does a good moisturiser but have you tried just applying olive oil half an hour before bed?

CerealMom · 19/01/2014 17:48

Central heating and the cold play havoc with my skin. My skin's better in a cooler house. Unfortunately, my feet aren't!

Lottapianos · 20/01/2014 12:56

Superdrug do a range called Simply Pure - the blue version is for dehydrated skin. The serum costs about 3 quid and is brilliant. It contains hyaluronic acid and was recommended by Sali Hughes in the Guardian

Fully agree about diet too - drink water, eat avocados, nuts, oils. No cigarettes and watch your sugar intake including alcohol. Exercise and fresh air work wonders too

Floisme · 20/01/2014 13:03

Have you tried oil rather than moisturiser? It may be a bit much for daytime but it's worth a try at night. I use either coconut, wheatgerm or sweet almond oil. My skin is quite sensitive as well as dry so it works well for me - plus they're a lot cheaper than all those pricey creams.

I also agree with more sleep plus drinking more water and, much as it pains me to say it, less coffee and alcohol.

MissBeehiving · 20/01/2014 13:18

Cleanse with coconut oil. Drink water and eat healthy fats. I use Salcura which I discovered after an outbreak of peri oral dermatitis and it works better than anything else I've tried. LRP was my favourite before that.

MissBeehiving · 20/01/2014 13:20

Hydra thingy acid does nothing for me Sad

squoosh · 20/01/2014 13:20

Coconut oil can make some people break out so proceed with caution.

Stillcomingtoterms · 22/01/2014 18:30

I have developed lots of fine lines. I made a mistake of using the bathroom cabinet 3 way mirror to look at the side of my face and saw all the wrinkles stretching from my eyes to the side of my face. Denial was much better.
So maybe it is dehydrated. The problem is I get spots too. I seem to have dry or dehydrated congested skin!
Would the oil or the acid work best? Thanks all

You can have skin that is both oily and dehydrated -dehydrated skin is lacking in water, not oil. Try the Superdrug range, the serum is good.

Miss it sounds like your skin is dry not dehydrated then, and needs oil.

You can have skin that is both dry and dehydrated, mine is. I use a hyaluronic acid serum under a moisturiser for dry skin.

Korean skincare is much more high-tech btw and they do some great hylaluronic acid products.

Rosehip oil is fab for fine lines and quite cheap at about £6 for 50ml.

Fine lines around eyes, if you can afford. Botox will make them disappear. Smile

ElBombero · 23/01/2014 09:53

How exactly do you cleanse with oil, rub it in and wash off with water n a cloth?

ElBombero · 23/01/2014 09:54

Littlebaby my dads in Korea on business at the mo. Can you recommend any products he could pick up in airport??

SilkStalkings · 23/01/2014 13:17

Superdrug's own has the advantage of not being tested on animals.

DiamondintheRough · 24/01/2014 13:03

Arbonne does an RE9 range which contains ingredients enhancing moisturisation and promoting collagen production. This improves your skin's firmness and elasticity, reducing the appearance of wrinkles. It also contains proteins, and antioxidants which combat the long-term damage from UV rays (to skin DNA).
It's quite pricy, but less than a similar quality product like Clarins because, like Avon, it's sold via network marketing. You'd need to get in touch with an Arbonne consultant...

DiamondintheRough · 24/01/2014 13:05

NB: I might be able to help you. Mssge if interested.

LittleBabyPigsus · 24/01/2014 14:29

Sainsburys and M&S own brands are also not tested on animals.

ElBombero jealous, Korean beauty is amazing and so advanced compared to UK brands. For skincare, Innisfree and Skinfood, for makeup Etude House (especially the larger eyeshadow palettes), Innisfree and Missha. Missha in particular has amazing packaging - luxury brand type packaging for Revlon type price points.
