Need a beauty boost! Starting to feel older than my years. Any tips?

So as my name suggests, I'm 29. This isn't old, I know, but over the past year or so, I've been feeling I look a fair bit older than I used to. Never get bloody IDd anymore Grin

I'm not sure what it is. I use good serums, moisturiser with spf 30 and wear face masks once a week - once a fortnight. My skin is still in good condition, so I can't really work out what's aging me, but something's changed. I don't have loads of lines or anything, like I say, I think I just need a boost.

Maybe some professional facials at the salon.....can anyone recommend anything?

Hope I don't come across as being really vain or anything, but it's really getting me down.

Have read that facial massages can be good for giving your skin a "radiant glow", which sounds good to me Smile Anyone tried this? Any good?

Be great to hear some of your tips.

Another one (regular sunscreen wearer) who went off to H&B this morning for the vit D3 –the penny deal is really good.

Let's hope my skin agrees! I feel horrendous if it is cloudy and need the sun. However, as I am sun sensitive it means I have to be careful with exposure. If this D3 works, I will be over the moon. Thanks for the rec.

OP, thanks for starting this thread Grin

Weelady77 · 16/01/2014 11:33

London how many a day do you have to take?

LondonNinja · 16/01/2014 11:34

One a day. I have only had one so far though (only just bought them). They are tiny capsules, so very easy to ingest.

Weelady77 · 16/01/2014 11:35

Perfect I was getting confused as I thought someone was taking 6 a day!

Will defo go and get some now

ElizabethBathory · 16/01/2014 15:54

You need Clarins Beauty Flash Balm!!

worldgonecrazy · 16/01/2014 16:03

Bobbi Brown do a make up lesson which teaches a few tricks for making yourself look younger. It might be worth investing a bit of time in that.

Other than that, beautiful skin starts on the inside, so make sure you are getting the amount of sleep you need, ensure you are hydrated and eating healthy.

Alcohol shows up in your skin, so avoid it in the week if possible. I know a make up artist who swears she can tell from the skin how much the person drank the day before.

piklepants · 16/01/2014 22:58

Oh my god to the alcohol showing in the skin:-( I must constantly look like shit. Must try harder. . .!

SirRaymondClench · 16/01/2014 23:20

Sorry Sunshine just saw this.
You spray it under your tongue so it gets into the blood stream quicker.
It also comes in higher doses (so costs less)
Don't forget you will need to have a 'loading period' where you have double doses for a few weeks to get it into your system.

DameDoom · 16/01/2014 23:21

Clumsy I took six a day for the first week and have gone down to two a day - Dr Google does say guidelines on UK dosing is woefully low.

Have not had one hormonal spot this month... not one!

Stocked up on a supplies for a year courtesy of H&B penny sale.

SirRaymondClench · 16/01/2014 23:27

Need to add, Vit D3 is something that we are pretty much all deficient in.
So many studies being done about it, they discovered recently that in a lot of major illnesses (MS and Alzheimers are a couple) people were severely Vit D3 deficient and that supplementation helps prevent things.
So we need to be taking this not just for beautiful skin!
In France Drs prescribe it. I bought my Granny a light box (which does the same sort of thing) because she is housebound.
So keep popping those pills! (or using that spray!!) Grin

DameDoom · 16/01/2014 23:30

Absolutely agree SirRay, we all need to be dosing big time to replenish body to start with and then drop down doses when you feel and see the difference.

DH is taking 1 per day and hasn't seen any difference whereas I have been chowing down and am all round thrilled with results.

There needs to be far more in the media to warn us about what lack of vit D can do to your body. I wonder how many MNetters are deficient in the UK? Bet it's the majority of us.

SirRaymondClench · 16/01/2014 23:35

This thread has inspired me. I fell off the Vit D3 wagon and am going to jump back on with you guys!

Dame I think we all live fairly indoors lifestyles really without realising it and wear spf when we do go out.
Even if we are outside I don't think we get enough sunshine.
Tortoises depend on Vit D3 and my tortoise spends all his time in the winter under his lamp - I might shove him over and get under it myself! Grin

DameDoom · 16/01/2014 23:47

Grin SirRay and of course, you are spot on about the major health benefits - that's why we should take it, but the vair vain part of me has been doubly impressed with the quick-fix appearance boost. I normally forget to take pills but am v enthusiastic about me D3... am so shallow.

willyoulistentome · 17/01/2014 00:09

Nude eyeliner Sunday?? Only on your eyes? ??

LondonNinja · 17/01/2014 14:23

Off to take another pill! Grin Need all the help I can get.

Susyb30 · 17/01/2014 22:56

Well thats me got my d3 fix too! The penny sale is on for another two weeks so get stocked up! Elizabeth I used to be a clarins beauty flash junkie but funds being a bit more limited these days ( having kids) I decided to follow advice from a make up artist who comes in my work..anyway instead of applying clarins beauty flash (or any other pricey primer) apply sudocream! Rub in really well into skin before make up and your make up stays put and you get gorgeous dewy skin..iv had lots of people commenting on my skin, and even when I take my make up off at night my skin is so soft and smooth..its the best beauty tip iv had and saving me pennies too! Off to take my d3 now :-)

DameDoom · 18/01/2014 16:07

How are we all getting along with the D3? I am back boosting with 6 a day - will do this for a week as have a bit of a cold.
I came in last night and cleaned the house - I never do that on a Friday - am positive tis' the D3.
Skin is looking so good today that I have actually worn bright orange lipstick - there is no way I could do that when I am all rosaceay. The D3 really seems to be controlling it.

fluffyduckie · 18/01/2014 16:49

How long did it take before you felt / saw the difference from D3?

DameDoom · 18/01/2014 17:08

fluffy I found within a week I felt better and my skin was noticeably, and I mean really noticeably better. I had rosacea bumps and acne on my chin and have been on topical antibiotics forever.
I doubt you'll see a difference if you only take one tablet, you really do have to get your levels up by boosting and then drop down.
I have stopped using my topicals now and the fact I have not had hormonal breakouts is miraculous. I do still have some redness on my nose but then again I am 42 so this is to be expected ( v fair skin) but it is nothing that concealer can't hide.
I really hope it works for you - try doing six a day for a week and let me know how you look and feel.
Disclaimer: if your D3 levels are good, you won't see any difference but if you are in the UK and don't lie under SirRaymond's tortoise's light box, I 'll bet they aren't.
I have turned into an obsessive D3 research googler. Becoming quite the geek.

fluffyduckie · 18/01/2014 17:21

Sounds amazing! Will order some on the penny sale!

Don't think my D3 levels will be good as I am Casper pale and avoid the sun!

DameDoom · 18/01/2014 17:47

Am off out for unexpected cocktails and pasta - this always makes me flare up skinwise. Will be the ultimate test of the D3. I will post later tonight to let you know if I have gone beetroot red and covered in hives/rosacea.

fluffyduckie · 19/01/2014 20:34

Want my D3 to arrive .........

Weelady77 · 19/01/2014 20:36

Dame how did you get on??

Eliza22 · 20/01/2014 13:49

Bought the D3 this morning as my skin could do with a boost and my bones ache like buggery. Will be back in a week....

elspethmcgillicuddy · 20/01/2014 14:04

Vit D is great and we don't get enough in this country but please see your GP if you think you are deficient. the daily supplement shouldn't do any harm but if you take a higher than recommended dose for a while then you can bugger up your calcium levels and that can be dangerous and cause heart arrhythmias.

If you want to take more than one capsule a day then please talk to your GP and do it safely.

Lecture over!

(I too haven't been taking a supplement but think I will start!)
