For women, I'm thinking ballet or whatever that hula hoop one is. Men - swimming?

elizabeth my calves are all muscle. I may be wobbly elsewhere but my calves are just pure, unwobbly muscle. they've always been the same

ItsRoxie · 08/01/2014 22:07

Reminds me of this photo series of Olympic athletes (DM link sorry). As a woman, I envy the gymnastics bodies - I suspect many of them also do/have done ballet though, esp the rhythmic gymnasts. From the blokes, I'd go for the triathlon/water polo bods!

chickydoo · 08/01/2014 22:24

Yoga
Has given me muscle definition, strength from all the planks.
Am pretty toned for an oldie.

VivaLeBeaver · 08/01/2014 22:25

Pole dancing.

PoshPaula · 08/01/2014 22:26

For men - Boxing. The lighter weights I.e. Middle, welter. For women - tennis or dance. Ice skating, maybe.

Starballbunny · 08/01/2014 22:31

DD does recreational gymnastics and practices a lot at home, endless trampolining.

Ok she's not quite 13, but I've never been that elegant and shaply.

cardamomginger · 08/01/2014 22:57

Ooo yes - triathalon and rowing for men Grin.

IlonaRN · 08/01/2014 23:22

Martial arts the best by far
Followed by dance

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 08/01/2014 23:24

Heavy lifting but without the steroids

MarshaBrady · 08/01/2014 23:24

Rowing is good for men.

madmomma · 09/01/2014 08:27

The most beautiful body I've ever seen is on a dancer. I think it's grace too, combined with such high physical awareness. Yoga, too. Barbara Currie's body is gorgeous and she's in her 70s!

Sleepwhenidie · 09/01/2014 09:46

Ballerinas, with a very few healthier looking exceptions, look far too skinny and delicate for my taste (and there's the knowledge of how prevalent eating disorders are among ballet dancers, maybe affects it for me). Jessica Ennis - definitely. For men, it's hard to beat gymnasts and divers, perfectly proportioned and defined, nothing too over developed Smile.

It's interesting to see how we all find different things aesthetically pleasing. I wonder too, when it comes to admiring female bodies, we focus on the closest build to our own? I could never look like a dancer, no matter how much ballet I did. Weight and interval training, plus kickboxing, gets me closer to my personal ideal though. My build is much more like JE's (not to say you'd never confuse us of course Wink) than a ballet dancer's. I also admire natural female bodybuilders.

FiscalCliffRocksThisTown · 09/01/2014 09:48

I think tennis players look good.

Normal , not ott, fit and not too slim, nor too bulky/muscular

bawabod · 09/01/2014 09:55

callanetics works on the body with quick results.

SinkyMalinks · 09/01/2014 10:59

Another vote for weight training (for men and women!). The right program and you get a healthy, lean but shapely physique.

I'm somewhat missing this at the moment, as it turns out I'm not someone who could carry it on in pregnancy!

MarshaBrady · 09/01/2014 11:01

Sleep yep I think so.

ElizabethBathory · 09/01/2014 11:14

Sleep agree lots of dancers look rather on the slender, delicate side, but that's down to not eating enough rather than the exercise itself. I've noticed that lots (not all by any means) of the best female dancers are solid muscle and not delicate looking at all when they're not en pointe. OneLittleLady I wouldn't write off ballet, your calves might already be developed enough that beginners lessons may not make them bigger - and you'd probably be really good at it!

MarshaBrady · 09/01/2014 11:20

They look incredibly strong but also refined and elegant to me. I like exercise that stretches and lengthens.

Pilates and Method Putkisto

circlebeginning · 09/01/2014 11:35

Many people say synchronised swimming too as it's a whole body/dance related exercise.

WhereIsMyHat · 09/01/2014 11:40

Yoga for legs, Pilates for core.

TrucksAndDinosaurs · 09/01/2014 11:43

Pole: the grace of dancers with incredible strength.

TheBookofRuth · 09/01/2014 11:45

I don't watch/participate in enough sport to have an opinion off the top of my head, but having followed that DM link, I can honestly say I don't find any of those physiques attractive, except for the male swimmers. Not to say I don't admire their skill and dedication, but from an aesthetics/attraction POV they leave me cold.

bettybleep · 09/01/2014 11:47

My sister was a dancer.. All her colleagues had big thighs
