G'wan, fess up. How much did you spend in the sales?

I am ashamed to say I went a bit crazy. In my defence, I was on a spending ban from dec 2012 until Nov 2013. I've ended up spending almost 2 weeks' wages. Wallet has closed for the next 6 months at least.

What shall I do for penance? Mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa....

£14 for a knitted dress from Apricot which is the perfect fit and length for me so well pleased.

LEMoncehadacatcalledSANTA · 08/01/2014 18:03

Wow - i'm very Envy any spare cash i have goes on christmas at that time of year. I did get christmas money from my mum (at 43!!) £150, which was nice. I have bought

1 pair of North face waterproof trainer boots - £45 (best £45 i have ever spent, they are soooo warm and lovely and comfy and were originally £110)
1 black t-shirt top from debenhams £5.60
1 pair of jeans - debenhams £18 (not in sale though)
thats all on me :(

£15 monthly karate fee for DD
£16 new cardi from monsoon for DD
£22 on dvd set of only fools and horses for DP.
Total £121 but not all sale stuff. Just given DP £20 towards disney infinity starter pack for DD DP and me

I wanted a pair of timberland snow boots but couldnt bring myself to spend £150 on boots. love my north face though

Specialbrew · 08/01/2014 18:10

I spent £110. I need don't actually need, or particularly want anything at the moment, but I like bargain hunting. With that I bought three Monica Viander rings, and a silk blouse from Paul Smith, all online. I'd like to go to the sales, but am going to give it a miss this year as i am saving for a holiday.

Kudos to those who save up for the sales. I will try that for next year!

DanGleebals · 08/01/2014 18:11

I spent £130. I'm quite surprised having added it up that it only came to that. I've been feeling guilty today about it for some reason! For that I got a pair of jeans, a dress, a leopard print clutch, a pair of shoe boots and a jumper. I ordered and returned £180 of clothes from zara too. Normally I can't go wrong in zara but everything I got in the sale was a bit, well, unflattering Grin

dexter73 · 08/01/2014 18:12

I hate sales shopping in actual shops so I did all mine online except a trip to Links of London at Bicester.

Jaffacakesallround · 08/01/2014 18:19

£32 on a pair of Dune shoes reduced by 50%.

LEMoncehadacatcalledSANTA · 08/01/2014 18:26

I think people do get ripped off in the sales, the thought of a bargain rather than the actual product itself. I would hate to think of people blowing their credit cards in the sales, but if you have saved up and you can afford it then go for it - i would rather a holiday though Grin.

Have you not noticed though how some shops only tend to bring certain things out in the sales? I think (i know) they make stuff substandard especially for the sales, so i am very choosy about what i buy in the sales. Its the same with outlet centres - i never bother with those

goodasitgets · 08/01/2014 18:41

Err does this mean I have to add it up?!
£60 in Lush
£54 in new look (one pair OTK flat boots, one pair chunky sheepskin lined knee boots)
£27? However much the soap and glory set was in boots
£28 at Pink Clove online - wrap dress and shrug
Think that's it Grin

MadBusLady · 08/01/2014 18:45

Two tops, one shirt and a pair of jeans from Oasis for grand total of £57 - all pre-identified.

I have Won the Sales.

Mabelandrose · 08/01/2014 18:48

Nothing! The sales were rubbish and a lot of retails put the prices up. I find that the sales encourage you to buy things you don't need therefore are a huge waste of money and do not offer you a 'saving'.

I would prefer to buy fewer nicer things throughout the year.

I'm clearly a misery...

MarshaBrady · 08/01/2014 18:52

Let's see

Marant coat - £850 to £250
Filippa K jumper - £310 to £65
Neon plimsolls - £55 to £25
J Crew jumper - £85 to £42
Frame skinnies - £200 and something to £67
American Vintage yellow t - £44 to £22
Ruby & Ed slippers - £40 to £20
Marant Etoile shirt - £150 to £75
BLK DNM skinnies - £170 to £44

Looks more than I thought written down, good savings however!

MarshaBrady · 08/01/2014 18:53

x post with Mabel. I clearly needed all that stuff Grin

I was pretty good and sent a load back that wasn't right.

Mumelie · 08/01/2014 18:53

Purse closed til March payday now Sad

AmberNectarine · 08/01/2014 18:54

My bags are this and this only mine is black.

I also bought Marant wedge trainers, Comptoir knee high boots, a few dresses (Me&Em, James Perse and Hobbs), metallic boots from Dune, a Liberty silk scarf, a Monica Vinader ring, two Kenzo t shirts and a couple of underwear sets so I got some bag for my buck!

Apatite1 · 08/01/2014 19:05

Love the pashli, mmmm. I sent at least £500 back this year. I wasn't keeping anything that wasn't perfect.

Richtea, care to share your bag?

One of the bags I bought was the sophie hulme mini envelope, this one in dark red:
