How can I get rid of the bags under my eyes?

Chocolategirl7 · 04/01/2014 16:08

I'm 43 years old and have dreadful bags under my eyes which I hate. Oh wise ladies - what actually works?
I get as much sleep as I can ( kids are not great sleepers but I get 8 hrs usually), drink loads of water and have tried various creams from the high street. Recently tried Argan oil eye serum which is lovely but pricey and I'm not noticing a real difference.

They are dark but it's the bags and the crepeyness which worries me more. When I use Touché clat I just feel a bit 'made up' and had a visit to a Clarins counter for a bit of a makeover but felt they just made the wrinkles look worse. I don't smoke and don't drink much alcohol ( although I do like my coffee).

Please help x

Double cleanse face. Clean off any make up, then clean again with a slightly textured cloth ( just warm water). Do this every night, and just the cloth in morning

Add Elizabeth Arden eye clean before bed.

Jaffacakesallround · 04/01/2014 16:13

sorry :( but don't think there is a cure- which is why people resort to surgery.

It's pockets of fat under the eye socket pushing upwards- no cream is going to help.

MrsSteptoe · 04/01/2014 16:17

^ what jaffacakes said. Particularly if they've always been there. Surgery has got cheaper, though. I had mine done. Definitely worth it, though watch out for the upselling - if that's the only procedure you want, don't let them start telling you you need the lids lifted as well or a trout pout or whatever. (Unless that's genuinely what you want.)

Jaffacakesallround · 04/01/2014 16:20

Having said that you can use creams for piles on your bags to tighten the skin for a few hours.

MrsS did you have success? I'd be worried about damage to the eyes and lids not closing properly etc etc- and was it with a local and not a GA?

Abbierhodes · 04/01/2014 16:21

Watching this thread wth interest- although I hope Jaffacakes and MrsSteptoe can be proved wrong! (No offence ladies Grin )

I'm 33 and constantly look shattered!

Xfirefly · 04/01/2014 16:26

my main tip would be NOT to put cream directly under the eye. This can make bags worse. always apply eye creams and serums around eye socket. (decleor do some amazing eye products).

cucumber around the eyes is soothing.

Squidwardtenticles · 04/01/2014 16:29

Watching with interest. Mine are worse when I put my contact lenses in.

MrsSteptoe · 04/01/2014 16:35

no offence taken, Abbierhodes! And the bags in my case had been there from childhood, it's just the way my eyes were.
Jaffacakes, yes, I'm glad I had it done, on balance. It was expensive, and they did talk me into having the upper lids done as well (hence my caution against upselling). There's a tiny little unnatural detail on one of the upper lids - I can't describe it, or I would - but I don't think most people notice it and I am absolutely certain that overall the eyes are much improved.
If I could afford it, I'd probably have another slight eyelid lift now, and a bit of something to sort out the lines from my nose to my mouth - but I can't (afford it), so there we are!

madmomma · 04/01/2014 17:58

facercise got rid of mine, and they were big.

CadiM · 04/01/2014 18:14

I love adding salt to my food but it always shows under my eyes: I look knackered the morning after a Chinese takeaway and then the skin looks crepey after it's deflated. I've not yet found a wonder cream but lots of moisturising plus double cleansing and doing the plenty of water/ sleep thing has helped.

Chocolategirl7 · 04/01/2014 20:17

Madmomma - can you tell us more about the facial exercises? I'm sure I have an Eva Fraser book somewhere!!

Glad the surgery worked - I'm too scared and haven't got the money ( and if I had I would Botox the 11s on my forehead first!) so I'll be trying the double cleanse and the Eliz Arden and cutting out salt and seeing how that goes! Confused

God Carole Malone should be paying me - I think I'm on another thread about this too :)
I've been doing the exercises for about 4 years now due to my (previously) baggy eyes. I bought the book and learned the routine one exercise at a time. Now I do them most nights in front of the tv and it takes me about ten to fifteen minutes. It's got rid of my eyebags, my cheeks are fuller and higher (used to be flat) and my lips are plumper. I'll do it forever because I am tres vain. It just takes time in the beginning to learn the exercises properly.

EasterHoliday · 04/01/2014 20:39

MrsSteptoe, was it a lower lift or fat removal? I went to see Jan Staneck about 10yrs ago and he tried to upsell an upper lift as well but I backed out as was too scared and I'd still have had big dark circles anyway. 10 years and a couple of children (severe sleep deprivation) on, and I'd really like to get lower and upper done.
How long were you behind dark glasses?

GobblersKnob · 04/01/2014 21:26

I do Eva Fraser and it had made a huge difference in just six months, but you do have to be persistent. Also, I have up eye cream and night cream on her recommendation, and I think that had helped too.

MrsSteptoe · 04/01/2014 23:54

EasterHol actually, it was 13 years ago, and to be honest - I really can't remember! Fat removal, I think, and I think it was largely healed within a fortnight. Don't remember having more time off than that. Good luck if you go ahead!

Having tear trough fillers got rid of mine. What I thought were bags were actually hollows where the tear troughs had 'emptied' with age. I have been so pleased with the results. I would recommend anyone getting them good goes to someone reputable and very experienced though.

ProjectGainsborough · 05/01/2014 10:31

I second facercise. Also lymphatic drainage massage. Have a search on YouTube - made a huge difference to mine.

MasterOfTheYoniverse · 05/01/2014 10:32

Origins "no puffery"
Its a clear gel that can be used every morning. Just dab a drop under the eye or pop 10mn in freezer and use as a mask in a thick layer once in a while.
Really works

Buzzardbird · 05/01/2014 10:33

Anusol

MasterOfTheYoniverse · 05/01/2014 10:34

agathaf a friend did tge same procedure and is VERY happy with the results too.

babySophieRose · 05/01/2014 10:49

Cold tea bags can help. Apply cool tea bags or an ice cube wrapped in soft cloth to your eyes daily. The tannin in tea bags reduces swelling and discoloration. Lie down, preferably in the morning, and leave the cool and damp caffeinated tea bags over your eyes for about 10-15 minutes. Keep your eyes closed. You can refrigerate them overnight so they will be ready in the morning.

stopgap · 05/01/2014 13:39

I am going to visit a surgeon soon to determine whether fillers or fat transfer will be a good option for me. I am 36, but look shockingly exhausted without concealer, due to my Italian heritage/family tendency toward hollow under eyes. I look so tired without concealer, in fact, that I once had someone try and sell me heroin on the street Sad.

EasterHoliday · 05/01/2014 18:41

stopgap - I spoke to someone about tear trough filler, and she wouldn't do it for me.
On the concealer front, £100 and a trip to the bobbi brown counter made a HUGE difference - a corrector followed by concealer.

AgathaF · 05/01/2014 19:41

Easter - I guess that is the sign of a reputable person. If it's not the best product for your particular issue, you wouldn't want to be paying for it.
