Looking for suitable face wash for DD10, want to start good habits

My 10 year old dd is in early stages of puberty, and noticed she is beginging to get few little blackheads and the odd tiny little pimple around nose!

She has very dry skin and is prone to very rough dry patches especially in winter (just like I did growing up) so looking for something easy for her to use thinking maybe a face wash and possibly a moisturiser though nothing to harsh that's going to make her skin worst

Any ideas?

Why are baby wipes bad. ? My friend advised me to get as thought if gentle for a baby skin wd be same for teen..

curlew · 04/01/2014 11:02

Mamomma- straight to the doctor. There is nothing you can do in terms of diet or skin care for acne like that. So many people have spent years thinking that their bad skin was because of something they did. Don't let your dd be one of them. There is incredibly effective treatment nowadays- why wait?

Ragusa · 04/01/2014 11:10

What Curlew said.

Graceparkhill · 04/01/2014 11:12

I can highly recommendwww.samfarmer.co. Very simple and ethical range not expensive and very user friendly. I got DS2 and my DNephew the travel packs for Christmas. The surprise hit of the season.

madmomma · 04/01/2014 14:16

Ah thanks guys. She has horrendous periods too, so I've advised her to try yasmin or cilest or one of the gentler contaceptive pills. Maybe it'll settle her skin too.

curlew · 05/01/2014 07:16

Me momma, seriously. There are specific antibiotics that can deal with acne nowadays- and it sounds as if it's acne your dd has. She can be free of it quickly and easily- make her an appointment tomorrow!

I use Amie eye make up remover which is a brand for young skin. There are cleansers and moisturisers in the range.

The eye make up remover is great, works brilliantly so although I can't comment on the other products I'd try them if I saw them as the remover is so good (I'm 37) Smile

Will do curlew thanks

Agree with mcfox.
My skin is much better for giving up on all soaps, face washes and even cleansers.
Hot water and lots of face cloths is all I need, I use olive oil at night.
I occasionally use a mild solution of ACV as a toner if needed.
Coconut oil is very gentle.

My DD, who is 9, uses a micellar water to cleanse her face.

DrNick · 05/01/2014 10:16

i am interested in micellar Bonsoir - tell me more

WRT acne - ( although sounds like the OPs daughter is a way off) someone told me ages ago NOT to accept acne in teens
I never had spots but poor old s2 seemed to hit puberty early, he is 13 now and has had GREAT results with a predscruption from the GP

the first lot didnt work so they upped it a bit and now his spots are very rare. He went off it for a week this holiday to check how it was working and some more appeared ( on his back too) so he is back on it for hte new term.
I was a bit worried they were the ones that make teens depressed but the Dr reassured me we were a way off that!!

Interestingly the GP didnt quibble for a minute about prescribing - so folks DO GO!

My 10yr old dd uses a brand called Amie. Very natural and made for young skin.

I am in love with Bioderma Créaline which is a star product in France. Everyone uses it - nothing it as good as this product for removing make-up and grime very quickly and efficiently.

DrNick · 05/01/2014 15:39

thanks!

Turquoisetamborine · 05/01/2014 15:51

I hope she's not as unlucky as me with my oily, acne prone skin at the age of 34 but although my mother bought me everything from Clinique 3 step routine to Simple skincare, nothing has ever really worked until I started oil cleansing.

I wish someone had told me about it years ago. However, I have hardly any wrinkles so there are some benefits.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 05/01/2014 16:42

This is v light and gentle - and cheap!

PurpleJellyDisc · 05/01/2014 16:47

Micellar water is a cleanser which is a little like a toner, but a really good efficient makeup remover. The B range at Superdrug does a good one. However I'd only use it for removing makeup - for cleansing of bare teenage skin, oil cleansing or using a creamy/hot cloth cleanser is much better for the skin.

Bonsoir · 06/01/2014 10:51

Micellar water is much less aggressive than a hot cloth or oil cleansing. It is nothing like a toner.

LittleBabyPigsus · 06/01/2014 12:36

I meant that it looks like a toner, sorry. I don't find hot cloth or oil cleansing aggressive though.

DrNick · 06/01/2014 12:40

i do like the clean feeling of a hot cloth,

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 06/01/2014 14:54

I think a micellar lotion would be better for young skin than a hot cloth cleanser tbh, as these can be quite abrasive. Micellar lotion can just be gently applied and wiped off with cotton wool.

dexter73 · 06/01/2014 15:07

I use the L'Oreal micellar water that Remus linked to. I find it very good at removing make-up and cleaning my face. I can't use a hot cloth cleanser very often as it makes my skin very dry and I get little scaly patches on my cheeks (yum). My dd uses it too and she finds it works well on her quite sensitive skin.
