I have just looked through the thread on 'things that have made a difference to your skin' thread.
Then I looked at the Caroline Hiron website, then I became completely overwhelmed. All that stuff!!! Do you really need to put all that stuff on your face to make your skin nice?
So then I thought I'd ask what your skin cleansing/ moisturising routines are. Is it simple, do you use loads of stuff?
I am in my 40s, only wear eye make up but no foundation etc. When I remember I use a cleansing wipe and always use moisturiser. That's it.
Please share your routines with me!!
Thank you Smile

Cleanse - Toleriane or Avene Cold cream taken off with a warm, not hot, cloth.
that's mornings and evenings.
Evening - alternate Ren retinoid serum and Clarins Santal oil. Top with L'Occitane Creme Divine these days, but have used and am very happy with Boots Botanics Sensitive Cream.
Morning - La Roche Posay Roseliac AC Serum and Avene Anti-rougeurs Fort.
Tinted moisturiser or healthy mix serum foundation.
Occasionally Clinique Moisture Surge Mask in the bath.
I tend to change moisturisers but always use the facial oils.

However, what works for me might not be right for you.

bigbuttons · 29/12/2013 11:00

Oh, see that's complicated! Do you need a facial oil, a serum and a moisturiser? What's the difference between the 3? See I am thick.

They deliver different active ingredients. I think.
I'm not qualified in any way, this works for me, it's been trial and error for years.
I also enjoy doing it, it's nice ritual to finish or start the day.

MrsDavidBowie · 29/12/2013 11:06

I use Dermalogica ultra calming wash morning and night.
Clinique laser wear repair serum, then Clinique moisture surge or Dermalogica age smart moisturiser.

I use Dermalogica daily exfoliant every other day.

Facials every 6 weeks.

I am 53by the way.

sunnyfriday · 29/12/2013 11:18

i am 37, my skin is prone to spots.

I changed to the OCM about 9 months ago. I also use aspirin masks twice a week and the difference is amazing. I get lots of comments by friends who haven't seen me for a while.

other than that I just use a moisturiser (whatever is on offer) but I make sure I clean my face every night.

had a loom at the blog as well and was just Shock at all that stuff.

Geckos48 · 29/12/2013 11:21

Morning
dr haushkca cleansing wash
Dr haushkca toner
Dr haushkca Quince cream

Night - see above but without quince.

Night creams are terribly bad for your skin, your body secretes enough oil at night, they are just pointless and damaging

I get complemented on my skin all the time.

dashoflime · 29/12/2013 11:24

Scrub with soap
Rinse with water
Thats it.

I have a cupboard full of stuff people have given me for xmas and birthdays and i have literally no idea what they are or how you
use them.

I suck at being a woman

Oakmaiden · 29/12/2013 11:24

Sunny - OCM?

FCEK · 29/12/2013 11:29

Pretty much the same as dash. Soap and water here.

Although I've started using a tea tree oil night lotion as I'm prone to spots.

I also like hand cream.

I haven't had a facial for ages! Hmm

OhTheDrama · 29/12/2013 11:54

I'm 34 with combination skin, prone to both very dry flaky patches and oily, spotty breakouts too. The current combination seems to be working well for me after years of thinking that the most expensive stuff will be best!

Simple face wash.
Vitamin E facial oil or Body Shop nutriganics serum (depends how dry my skin is).
Oil of Olay complete care (day), Superdrug Vitamin E night cream.
Body Shop nutriganics eye cream.

sunnyfriday · 29/12/2013 12:12

OCM - oil cleansing method ;-)

sultrywinter · 29/12/2013 12:53

Not sure how you can back up the statement about night creams being 'damaging' gecko Confused

I cleanse morning and evening with either Emma Hardie moringa balm or Alpha H balancing cleanser and wipe off with a flannel

Serum - usually Lancôme or Clinique

Moisturise - am with Elemis PCMC
Evenings alternate a Decleor rose balm with Alpha H liquid gold

Serums deliver specific actives, moisturisers moisturise.

My serums are for targeting pigmentation - if I didn't have that I wouldn't use a serum.

bigbuttons · 29/12/2013 15:50

Thank you everyoneSmile
Do you put the serum on before you moisturise?

OP posts:
lurkingaround · 29/12/2013 16:28

Morning: Wash (Av?ne or La Roche Posay), SPF, eye cream, makeup.
Nighttime: I nearly always take off the makeup. That's it.

I occasionally try Retin A but I can't seem to tolerate it. I am also in my 40s and have spent a very many years trying about a million products and can confidently say they never made a difference. SPF does. (I don't have dry skin, which might be a bit more high maintenance, my skin tends to oiliness)

coffeeinbed · 29/12/2013 16:43

Serum, oil, moisturiser.
Except some serums are very much oil based, so the rule would be start with the lightest consistency and work up to the thickest.

bigbuttons · 29/12/2013 16:57

right, ok, lightest to thickest! ThanksSmile

It's utter bollocks from Dr hauschka about not using night cream.

I fell for that flannel and bought the rhythmic night conditioner etc. My skin was gasping and I stuck it out.

I love emma hardie and all things alpha h.

I'm a Caroline hirons fan and follow her advice.

im currently cleansing with:

Una Brennan vit c cleanser and Emma .Hardie balm.

Clarins toner then vichy serum.

I picked up a brilliant dr lewinns bargain moisturiser from tk maxx, its fab!

TripTrapTripTrapOverTheBridge · 29/12/2013 20:03

Just changed products (ran out and felt like it)

Cleanse with Kaeso cleanser (used to be clarins),tone, again with kaeso (used to be clarins),garnier moisturiser then make up.

Evening as above but finish with a retinol cream (giving it a try) followed by Kaeso moisturiser and boots eye cream.

lizzypuffs · 29/12/2013 20:13

I'm a clarins girl mainly and do the following-

Morning - foaming cleanser then eye balm then multi active day cream.
Night - foaming cleanser then night cream.

That's it really. I don't wear foundation or eye make up just a bit of concealer, blusher and lippy and it seems to suit me.

Geckos48 · 29/12/2013 20:35

Dr

Geckos48 · 29/12/2013 20:36

Cont - haushkca only works if you haven't already destroyed your skin with rich night creams!

coffeeinbed · 29/12/2013 21:22

Says who?
Dr Hauschka?
That said, I do like their moisturisers. The rose one is quite rich and I have been slapping it on at night as well.

Geckos48 · 29/12/2013 21:33

Well it's always worked for me and having learnt about skin, to sell dr haushkca products, a few years ago, it makes sense that your skin is naturally oily at night and doesn't need loads of cream on it. People need more and more cream on their face and there is no need for it! I don't reckon anyway :)

WhomessweetWhomes · 29/12/2013 22:14

Why does it make sense that your skin would be more oily at night? I've always had uneven combination skin, prone to spots. I've recently tried using the thick Nivea cream in the blue pot as a night cream, and my skin is so much better. I'd always avoided rich creams as I'd assumed they would make me break out in spots. It's fab that it's so cheap tooGrin .

Geckos48 · 29/12/2013 22:19

Well, because it is.

I can't really explain to you how something makes sense when I go to sleep having cleansed and toned and then wake up with oily skin. It's just naturally what skin does, excretes oil at night.
