Running tights/trousers?

DingbatsFur · 27/12/2013 19:41

Hi,
New year's resolution is to start running home from work.
I need running tights/trousers or something though. I am a size 14 but have jiggly thighs so need something that give my thigh fat (so attractive) a bit of support so they don't feel sore from running.
Any ideas? Also probably a sports bra but 4 years of breastfeeding renders that largely a lost cause.
Thanks!

I'm bigger than you at a size 16. I wear the nike crop leggings for running and gym workouts. They fit well, don't slide down and feel supportive and comfortable. They are thick so you cant see your underwear through them. I've got the extra large but I've lost some weight and toned up so I think the large would fit now. The pocket in the back is big enough for my car key and old iPod. Smile

I got some full length running tights from Howies a couple of months ago. They are the most comfortable running tights I have ever worn. My bottom half is a 14 and the m/l fits perfectly. My similarly built friend swears by Skins. I have some Addidas ones which I hate! Fabric is not stretchy enough, too baggy.

For the bra, Shock Absorber do a running specific bra, which keeps my 32Es in check.

Don't forget decent shoes, properly fitted by a proper sports shop like Up 'n' Running.

beckslovestimmy · 27/12/2013 19:49

M&S have a good selection if sports bras too.

eurochick · 27/12/2013 19:49

I find Ronhill and Shock Absorber brilliant.

DingbatsFur · 27/12/2013 20:13

Brilliant! I will go and seek them. Thanks so much guys.

Have a look at SoActive website too, they are having a decent sale.

addictedtosugar · 27/12/2013 20:21

Mine have all come from Sports direct.
Got some cheep 3/4 ones for the summer, but got some karimor ones for winter running.
If your dubious on the size size down! I've had to stitch in a tuck in mine!

DingbatsFur · 27/12/2013 20:35

There! Shock absorber bra and nike running trousers ordered. No excuse now. Thanks guys!

Ronhill def best for running trousers.

beckslovestimmy · 27/12/2013 21:42

Good luck dingbats!!! Grin

RubyLovesShopping · 27/12/2013 21:50

Shock absorber run bra definitely. The band size and cups come up small on it so you may need to go up a cup size.
I have a lot of lululemon running gear which family members bring back from the us for me. Also pearl Izumi running tights are good.

ladypete · 27/12/2013 22:29

I really like the Nike running tights as they don't fall down (filament tights I think they're called) and the nike sports bras. I imagine I have a smaller chest than you it's not hard but they work so well. Sports Direct often have discounts on both these items if you can bear it!

I run a lot. I have full length Nike running tights for this time of year which I picked up in Sports Direct.
I have a Nike sports bra and long and short sleeve running tops from John Lewis. Might be worth seeing if they have anything going in the sale.
Shoes wise, I swear by Asics. I have had Nikes in the past but just not as comfy.

BikeRunSki · 28/12/2013 09:02

Pearl Izumi is my running/cycling brand of choice if I can get it.

Snog · 28/12/2013 09:10

sweaty betty are fab and have a sale on

RubyLovesShopping · 28/12/2013 11:44

Agree ASics gel nimbus are my faves.
Bike run ski where do you get pearl Izumi from? I struggle to get them too.

Snowdown · 28/12/2013 11:46

Ronhill for running tights - good fit, relatively cheap and have a perfectly sized hip pocket for carrying an iPhone - tunes are essential IMO. Try the couch to 5km apps for extra motivation.
Bra - shock absorber run - only down side is that it can take a bit of effort to get it on but it supports once in place.

You might need a hat and gloves - get thin ones and choose bright colours - be seen!!

Good luck!

LittleTulip · 28/12/2013 11:47

I have some full length Asics running tights that are brilliant.

Snowdown · 28/12/2013 11:49

Get your gait analysed at a running shop and take their advice on what shoes to buy. Every suits different types, I swear by my Asics Gel kayanos, dh favours Brooks and my friend loves Saucony. Find a pair that suits you!

DingbatsFur · 28/12/2013 11:50

Ooo so much advice! Thanks!!
I got Nike long tights and shock absorber bra from Debenhams in their sale. About 50£ for the lot but that seems to be comparable. Phew!
Going to dig out a backpack and plan will be to get changed at work, put work clothes in back pack and then run home. It's a 30-40 minute walk so that should give me a nice basic start as I limp along panting.

ruby I tend to get it from cycling shops. Apart from padded shorts, i use cycling / running stuff interchangeably. Minx-girl.com Minx Girl sometimes has it, but it is rare to find .

BikeRunSki · 28/12/2013 19:53

... Although i got some Pearl Izumi merino running socks from Amazon recently.

Snowdown · 28/12/2013 20:01

Bikerunski what is so good about Pearl?

BikeRunSki · 28/12/2013 22:44

They fit well
They perform well - stretch, breathe, don't niggle, stay up etc
There is a good range of women's specific stuff- the cycling range is particularly well thought out in terms of bum pad, placing of shoulder straps etc - not just scaled down men's
They are feminine without being overly pink and silly
The winter stuff really keeps me warm
They are bombproof and last forever

Dollydishus · 28/12/2013 22:51

I run a lot but have never bought running tights or tops. What am I missing?

I wear Asics trainers, and a sports bra (can't remember where from ), shorts and a t shirt (just ordinary ones made of T shirt material). And a hi viz tabard.

Why do people buy special stuff? Genuine question.
