Running tights/trousers?

DingbatsFur · 27/12/2013 19:41

Hi,
New year's resolution is to start running home from work.
I need running tights/trousers or something though. I am a size 14 but have jiggly thighs so need something that give my thigh fat (so attractive) a bit of support so they don't feel sore from running.
Any ideas? Also probably a sports bra but 4 years of breastfeeding renders that largely a lost cause.
Thanks!

Running tights tend to be a good fit, they don't slip, rub or chafe and they "wick" sweat away from the skin so stop you feeling cold and clammy.

Dolly I buy stuff that keeps me warm or cool, flatters...washes well and keeps me visible. I started running 7 years ago, I still have a lot of the gear I bought back then. Socks always have to be X socks and they wear out. The running shoes get replaced twice a year, at least! But if you are happy with what you wear then that's great.

Dollydishus · 28/12/2013 23:17

I am happy with it but I don't look like a proper runner! I think I look like a mad mum who's lost a dog and is chasing it. All the other runners I see look very serious and like they are doing timings etc with a big posh watch.

I cannot bear getting hot when I run so I run bare legged in shorts all year round. I wear my son's cagoul if it's raining, that's all, and then I can't go far as I get too hot.

Buy from next or John Lewis. Both have branded stuff

Dolly. Chafing. Wicking

I've got some Ronhill leggings and some Karrimor, all fine but Karrimor don't last as well.

Sports bra is vital! I wear Panache or Enell. Make sure you are measured according to the bra guru rules!

Dolly a bit mad mum is brilliant. The comedy runners are the ones who've clearly just received a full matching outfit for Christmas, it's a bit like wearing double denim. Nothing should match too much....there - that's my fashion advice for runners!

BikeRunSki · 29/12/2013 08:14

Ah, Snowdown, you mean the All The Gear And No Idea folk. There's also OncoCouple , where a couple have all matching running/cycling/hill wailing outfits.....

But - they're not sitting on the sofa.

inamerrymuckingfuddle · 29/12/2013 08:17

Gap active gear is pretty good too

StillNoFuckingEyeDeer · 29/12/2013 08:18

I got new asics running leggings for Christmas. They have a pocket in the middle at the back that fits my iPhone. They're prefect. My other good ones were from H&M! I wear full length in the winter & cropped leggings in the summer.

I swear by New Balance trainers and Shock Absorber bras.

Snowdown · 29/12/2013 08:57

Bikerunski the matching outfits, make me smile and put an extra spring in my step....they remind me of how far I've come.

For Pearl Izumi stuff join Sport Pursuit. It's another sale website like brand alley etc - they have PI stuff now and again. The discounts are usually great, on everything not just that brand. They also have shock absorber bras quite often.

A lot of my stuff matches I tend to buy certain colours to run in because I like them. I also have a big watch which helps me go faster! I think if people get out there and run at least they've got some motivation I don't really care if they're matchy matchy like me or shorts and cagoule, at least they're trying.

Dollydishus · 29/12/2013 09:11

I should have said I'm very menopausal hence the being boiling hot all the time. I love running because of the breezy feeling it generates. I'd run in just my underwear I'd I could, though at my age and a bit of a chubster (despite running loads), plus world class stretch marks, that would be a great look!

Dollydishus · 29/12/2013 19:02

Ok, I hear you all. I bought running tights in a sale today!! Ultrasport. No idea of that's any good. £15.

Will report back. Might even look like a proper runner now!
