So, Caroline Hirons. Full of good advice or full of the other stuff?

Was drawn to reading her review of Clinique's Take The Day off balm. I'm tempted to try it...

But then I started reading the rest of her blog and I'm not sure what to think. Is it worth reading any more? Or would it be one of those "that's a half hour I'm never going to get back" experiences?

I use the serozinc as the hydrating toner step, I'm not sure how much of my improvement is down to that or the whole routine
The Occo stuff is lovely, v gentle and I can use it around my eyes with no problem

I've seen her in real life and her skin is beautiful. No need to denigrate her -if you don't like her blog don't read it.

She sticks her neck out in an industry of arse lickers. Though I fear that may change as she's getting increasingly more known.

I don't take all her advice. Lots of water and supplements is not for me. But the cheat sheets are very good.

Who is denigrating her spanish?

Being plump makes her skin look good

Hi ladies! I'd love to hear how people who've bought and used various Caroline Hirons recommended products are getting on? It must be six months later and I'm intrigued to know how you got on? I tried the Kate Somerville Goat Milk cream on her advice and I love it. As for all the toners (pixi, clarins, etc.) I was mad on them for months but my skin gradually got worse so I ended up using them less and less frequently (once a week maybe now). I also tried an expensive Clarins serum that was pretty uninspiring. Thoughts? Xxx

Been following her advice for a few years now, have the best, clearest, softest skin I've ever had. Some products don't work for me but others do. Funnily enough my skin doesn't like expensive! I love her. Her advice isn't for all but then you need to know your skin to know what may and may not work for you, and she can hardly tailor advice to each and every person that reads her blog.

I cant believe people are suggesting that using simple face wash and Aldi moisturiser is just as good as some of the expense brands that Caroline recommends! That is just crazy, trust me I have always had really bad skin and I have spent a lot of time and money trying various different products! Caroline is amazing, firstly she brought Emma Hardies cleansing balm to my attention which at £36 for a small pot is very expensive but is totally worth every single penny. My skin has been amazing since I started using it and I have followed a lot of her advice on toners, night creams and serums and wow my skin has never been better. Caroline also recommends a lot of body shop products and Lush which are all really affordable. If your not willing to spend money on your skin then you clearly don't care. As Caroline says "you only get one face" don't ruin it by covering it in mineral oil creams and foaming face washes that ruin your skin!

chanie44 · 15/03/2015 19:14

That's quite mean.

Not everyone can afford to spend £36 on a cleanser and spending less doesn't mean people don't care about their skin. If somebody is happy using aldi cream and feels it works for them, what's the problem?

I think she's a bit of a con, frankly. I don't think her skin is that great (certainly no better than mine and I'm about the same age as she is) and she writes as if her statements are arrived at somehow scientifically which they aren't at all. I don't know on what basis she makes her judgments.

On her blog I read a statement that said if you don't spend loads on skincare you'll end up with an alligator face when you're 60 or something like that. However, genetics, sun exposure, and not smoking or drinking much will make a million times more difference than the price of your skincare. That Boots No 7 serum for example works as well as any for many people and it's pretty cheap. Where does she get these "facts" of hers from??

If I'm going to take beauty advice from anyone it would be from a dermatologist like Dr Leslie Baumann who I really do like. She divides ski types into 16 different variations. You answer a lot of questions about your skin in a test in her book. Then you read the product recommendations in the chapter for your particular type and at a range of different prices. I've found some stuff that works extremely well for me through her recommendations. It's far from a one size fits all approach.

Caroline? Is that you? Grin
