So, Caroline Hirons. Full of good advice or full of the other stuff?

Was drawn to reading her review of Clinique's Take The Day off balm. I'm tempted to try it...

But then I started reading the rest of her blog and I'm not sure what to think. Is it worth reading any more? Or would it be one of those "that's a half hour I'm never going to get back" experiences?

I once had some Darphin samples and it was magic.
Can't afford it though.

ggirl · 28/12/2013 18:12

the Simple ad on her blog has put me off

AntoinetteCosway · 28/12/2013 18:22

One thing I find slightly irritating is that Sali Hughes and Pixiwoo (who I love, I must admit!) both seem to think Caroline Hirons is a god and a lot of their skin care advice is taken directly from her. Sali has drop dead beautiful skin so I want to trust her but it makes me question whether she tests things as well as she claims or whether she just assumes if Caroline's said it's good, then it must be.

Philoslothy · 28/12/2013 18:31

Following her advice transformed mr skin. I quite like the fact that she is willing to say she got it wrong RE double cleansing and toners .

coffeeinbed · 28/12/2013 18:33

Pixiwoo terrify me.

AntoinetteCosway · 28/12/2013 18:35

Grin I love them!

coffeeinbed · 28/12/2013 18:36

But do you actually use their tutorials?
Genuine question.
You must be a braver woman than me.Grin

Philoslothy · 28/12/2013 18:45

I find pixiewoo a little gimmicky, perhaps their target market is a younger audience. Although I have bought some things on their suggestion. I did buy a load of Mac eyeshadows after watching a Tanya Burr demonstration.

I tend to follow Lisa Eldridge more for makeup.

coffeeinbed · 28/12/2013 18:50

Well, there's one thing buying and another one actually using.
I keep using the same things - 95% of the time I use 15% of my make up.

coffeeinbed · 28/12/2013 18:51

On reflection, I might have exaggerated a bit, but that's the general idea.

Philoslothy · 28/12/2013 19:00

I do use the eyeshadows . I am a makeup junkie but use most of it.

AntoinetteCosway · 28/12/2013 19:11

Ha! No, I don't use the tutorials (don't think I've ever copied a tutorial to be honest) but I like them for ideas and their thoughts on new products. I'm a make up video junkie and watch loads of different channels. I do freelance make up so I like to watch other artists and get steal ideas.

coffeeinbed · 28/12/2013 19:14

My favourite make up tip ever came from the Stylist - sort of blue or dark eye shadow with glitter on too of the colour.
It looked so pretty.
I did try that one.

goodasitgets · 28/12/2013 19:50

I was using similar products before but not getting the results. I read her advice and changed my skincare
Am is Occo milk cleaner and Lancôme hydrating toner, then amphora aromatics echinacea moisturiser
Pm is Occo wax balm (hot flannel), Occo milk cleanser, bravura exfoliating toner, serozinc
This is my skin now - it was AWFUL before. Daylight in photo, no filters, no concealer/foundation/base at all

So, Caroline Hirons. Full of good advice or full of the other stuff?
ggirl · 28/12/2013 20:02

goodasitgets-you have gorgeous skin , did you get those recommendations from caroline hiron?

goodasitgets · 28/12/2013 20:09

I took the main advice of double cleansing, not using gritty exfoliation, an exfoliating toner, oh and serozinc
The brand Occo I found in TK Maxx and my skin seems to love it. The echinacea cream came from a tweet to CH and it was £5 so I gave it a go!
Sometimes I swap the milk cleaner in the pm for MD Formulations glycolic cleanser as it shifts blackheads well

ggirl · 28/12/2013 22:14

serozinc?

motherinferior · 28/12/2013 22:18

I find her rather charming but the cod-science ('give up dairy!' 'Give up sugar!') annoying...

I am 50. I have good skinGrin

coffeeinbed · 28/12/2013 22:22

Serozinc is mineral water based spray.
It's blue bottle, costs about 8 Euros in France.

coffeeinbed · 28/12/2013 22:23

No Idea what Occo is.

Philoslothy · 28/12/2013 22:23

serozinc, you can now buy it in boots

CecyHall · 29/12/2013 07:13

You can't buy serozinc in boots, it's eBay or maybe one of the French pharmacy websites that deliver to the uk.

I got a can in France last week but the jury's still out for me. I can't really tell how good it is as my diet is so bad with Christmas just now which affects my skin.

Philoslothy · 29/12/2013 08:54

I thought I bought mine in boots, maybe I didn't . They do sell other la roche posay items now.
