Yummy Mummy: What do you need to be one?

Just curious.

Do you need Boden clothes, a 4x4, designer shades and the latest mulberry bag or is it enough to be groomed and comfortable in your own skin?

Discuss.

I believe that being reasonably well groomed, comfortable in your own skin and with a twinkle in your eye goes a long way to remaining the attractive, funny woman you were before you got knocked up

Fastasleep · 20/07/2006 19:43

To me yummy mummys have 'good taste' - the sort of Trinny and Susannah kind of wear what'll flatter you taste, nevermind the latest trend... they have make up and hair that also flatters them, and they have a sort of aura of knowing that they look good without being over the top...

There is a big yet often subtle difference between yummy mummy and over the top mummy

One day I'll be a yummy mummy... got to get the hair sorted!

Oh, I don't think size has anything to do with it at all... or even natural 'beauty' being comfortable, or at least outwardly comfortable with oneself has loads to do with it though.

OppressedLiberalPinko · 20/07/2006 19:46

Do people want to be yummy mummies? I'd always assumed it was a grave insult...

Fastasleep · 20/07/2006 19:48

I'd like to be a yummy mummy rather than a scummy mummy... or a slummy mummy... or a crummy mummy...

southeastastra · 20/07/2006 19:49

yummy mummy as a phrase makes me want to vomit

ScummyMummy · 20/07/2006 19:50

Oh really, fastasleep?

Fastasleep · 20/07/2006 19:50

Well I'd rather that than MILF...

would you rather it was 'oh look at the Well Presented Mother'?

Fastasleep · 20/07/2006 19:51

Oh..heehhee... of course, I mean I wouldn't want to be like you because you're you there's nothing wrong with you..heehee...

marthamoo · 20/07/2006 19:53

Yummy Mummies have sleek hair, with tasteful highlights. They either have a perfect layered bob, or do that effortless swoosh it up in a clip with perfect little tendrils framing their (immaculately made up) faces. My hair's too messy for me to be a Yummy Mummy and I'm Too Hot.

Gobbledigook · 20/07/2006 20:04

I think it's just looking 'polished' - hair nicely done, bit of make up on, nice clothes. Don't have to be thin or stunning imo.

I was actually called a 'yummy mummy' by another mum at school the other day

popsycal · 20/07/2006 20:06

brief hijack!
marthamoo - it arrived....will get the cheque sorted!
Thank you so much!

Caligula · 20/07/2006 20:06

Is yummymummy a negative or a positive word? I've never quite known.

southeastastra · 20/07/2006 20:10

negative, like milf it's awful

OppressedLiberalPinko · 20/07/2006 20:11

I think of it as a negative stereotype. I think it translates as "sloane ranger who is a mother".

marthamoo · 20/07/2006 20:11

You're welcome and no rush for the cheque.

OppressedLiberalPinko · 20/07/2006 20:11

What is milf please?

southeastastra · 20/07/2006 20:11

round here it translates as 'grow up'

Northerner · 20/07/2006 20:14

milf = mother I'd like to f**k

OP posts:
apronstrings · 20/07/2006 20:14

OppressedLiberalPinko · 20/07/2006 20:15

apronstrings · 20/07/2006 20:15

OppressedLiberalPinko · 20/07/2006 20:15

And apronstrings.

southeastastra · 20/07/2006 20:16
