Has anyone used the above? I've used the shampoo to try and stop my hair going reddish (currently colour it ash brown but it stills goes a bit brassy) I'm tempted to try this as I know it contains a small amount of colour but only want it to cool the red rather than darken. Currently have mid brown hair x

I have some and use it twice a week for the same reason as you are looking to get some.

It works really well for me. It is expensive but it last ages.

ElizabethBathory · 09/12/2013 16:15

Yes, I use it all the time. I originally got it for the same reason as you OP, but have carried on using it on my natural colour as I like the slight darkening, cooling effect. The conditioner has a lot more pigment than the shampoo, so you could start off by using the shampoo only and see if that takes away the brassiness? Otherwise, use the conditioner but only leave it on for a couple of mins or less, and don't use it every time you wash your hair.

can you use it to tone down highlights?

cloudskitchen · 09/12/2013 22:03

Thanks everyone. Can I please ask what colour hair you have? The word black in the name is whats holding me back :) Will it stain a plasticish shower tray?

Also interested to know if it would stain grout?

MissScatterbrain · 10/12/2013 07:33

My hair is medium/dark brown. The conditioner does not make it black - it just cools down the red tones that usually come out a couple of weeks after dying my hair.

It will not stain the shower if you clean up afterwards - not a big job as you only use a small amount of the conditioner anyway.

cloudskitchen · 10/12/2013 09:03

Perfect. Thanks missscatterbrain. I'm going to invest Grin

My hair is dark but it's nowhere near black - I think hairdressers would call it mid ash brown or something. It says on the bottle it's for brown to black shades, so should be fine.

Southeastastra, I'm not sure about toning down highlights. If they're blonde, it could make them purple. I used it when I'd dyed over my highlights back to my natural colour and wanted to tone down the redness that the highlights had picked up from the dye, iyswim.

Thanks Elizabeth thats great Smile

Mine is dark brown but because there is a lot of grey to cover the grey bits look like dark but golden highlights IYSWIM. Being an HoC Winter I use it to kill the gold tone as an ash tone would leave it a bit too flat.

It made my hands go dark green first time I used it so take the soap into the shower Grin

ElizabethBathory · 10/12/2013 11:04

Green 4567 - that's odd! Mine always go dark purple (I am v white though). Especially my cuticles. Comes off with soap easily enough.

Hetaera · 10/12/2013 11:45

I use it disguise and tone down silver roots on my light ash brown hair. Perhaps the first time you use it treat it like a semi: wash and towel dry hair, apply using plastic gloves, maybe even put a plastic bag over the hair to prevent mess and leave for 10-20 mins depending on how brave you feel. I find doing it this way minimises any mess!

My hair was light/med brown and this makes it med/dark, but no red and very shiny. I have hair just above shoulders and a tube of this lasts me at least 6 months - I reckon it's the same or cheaper than home dye kits and no hassle. I just use the conditioner not the shampoo and it works fine on its own. I haven't found it makes a mess at all!

HermioneWeasley · 10/12/2013 19:56

I just leave it on my hair in the shower for a minute a two while I'm doing other things. [low maintenance emoticon]

INeedSomeHelp · 10/12/2013 19:58

They also do a Clove shampoo and conditioner for brown hair if you're worried about it being too dark.

4567 · 10/12/2013 21:09

The clove one will leave a warm tone, the black malva is a cool tone.

QueenBoudicea · 10/12/2013 21:38

I'm tempted to buy this as I get the reddish tones but I prefer a cooler tone. Will it cover my grey roots?

cloudskitchen · 10/12/2013 23:11

I bought some today and will use tomorrow morning and report back. I'll only leave on for a minute or 2 to begin with.

One more question... If I find it too dark and stop using it will it fade out like a semi? I'm assuming it will as you only leave it for a short time.

Hetaera I bought some pladtic gloves today to use with it Grin

OP posts:
MissScatterbrain · 11/12/2013 08:53

Yes, it will fade Smile

cloudskitchen · 11/12/2013 10:31

Thanks :) I have used it this morning for a couple of minutes and it has definitely calmed the brassy bits down. I was going to colour my hair this week to blend my roots (and greys) in with the rest but don't think I need to rush now. Hopefully colouring my hair every 4 weeks won't be necessary Grin

The woman in aveda was hopeless yesterday to thank goodness for you lot Thanks

Glad you had success this morning and I do find that I can go longer between dye jobs Grin

SmudgyDVDsAreEvil · 11/12/2013 12:57

I found that it was good for toning down brassiness, but the colour deposit it leaves on your hair is actually a sort of pale bluey-green colour, not dark brown or black. So not great if you have a lot of grey (unless you want aqua highlights) and it won't sort your roots out, sadly.
