Has anyone used the above? I've used the shampoo to try and stop my hair going reddish (currently colour it ash brown but it stills goes a bit brassy) I'm tempted to try this as I know it contains a small amount of colour but only want it to cool the red rather than darken. Currently have mid brown hair x

How odd - it comes out as purplish on my hands. I have a lot of grey and it seems to work fine on my roots.

Is it any good for blending/covering undyed grey hairs? I have enough white strands now to be noticeable (mainly because my hair is so dark, if I was blonde you probably wouldn't notice them) but not enough that I really want to start properly colouring my hair. If it just reduced the contrast a bit that would be enough!

I am wondering if we're all talking about Black Malva given that some people say it looks green! It's a very dark purple colour in the tube and on my skin.

4567 · 11/12/2013 15:16

It's dark purple in the tube Elizabeth and an inky dark/purple blue on the floor of the shower when I rinse it out but there's a definite dark green as well as purple tinge on my hands!

SmudgyDVDsAreEvil · 11/12/2013 16:01

Definitely Black Malva - it's confusing as the first colour that you get when you dilute it is an inky purple, but there's bluey-green in there as well. It definitely turns the bathwater (and grey hair as it starts to fade out) a pretty shade of aqua!

cloudskitchen · 11/12/2013 19:03

Yikes. Bit worried about aqua coloured grey hairs as I have enough that it would show.

Apparently there's also a blue malva (or blue something) as I nearly ended up with a tube of that Confused not sure what that ones supposed to do.

Well now I know. blue malva adds silvery brightness to grey hairs (one to avoid then Shock ) and tones brassiness in all shades. Could be a good one for peeps with fairer hair.

I think the Blue Malva is violety rather than aqua, so good at toning out brassiness as well. It won't make grey hair more grey iyswim, it will just counter any yellowy tones - which may or may not be what you want.

Actually I think you'd have to have an awful lot of grey in big chunks (which I did) for the aqua to be noticeable - if it's just roots it probably wouldn't be.

SmudgyDVDsAreEvil · 12/12/2013 19:53

And the aqua was only slightly visible in bright daylight - I didn't have neon green hair or anything! It's just that I was hoping for a darkening effect on my greys to tone in with my dark shades, but it didn't work like that.

Just wanted to add my experiences to this thread.

I used the Black Malva conditioner twice -- the first time I left it in for 30 minutes; 2nd time 15 minutes. Both times no noticeable cooling of the brassy tones from my henna/ indigoed hair. As others have stated no covering of grey hair.

I purchased at the Aveda shop in covent garden. I asked for a sample, but the sales assitant said they couldn't give me one, but if I purchased and didn't get along with it I could return it. So I returned it.

if i have warm dark brown hair that goes brassy at the end of the colour cycle which should I use - clove or malva?

noddyholder · 18/04/2014 13:11

Clove I know all about these old flat mate worked for them The black malva is that blue black colour iirc. Also the blue malva is a miracle for grey really brings it alive and youthful.
