Good warm coat for DD

eggsforbreakfast · 03/12/2013 22:05

Please can you tell me where you bought your DDs winter coat from?

I'm after a not too girly puffa jacket if possible but open to other styles as long as they are very warm.

If you can be bothered to link that'd be great, thankyou Smile

Have you looked at Landsend? DS's winter coat is from there (as is mine actually!) and I really rate them. Warm, waterproof and lots of nice design features like an inner pocket for hats and gloves.

Cherrypie32 · 03/12/2013 22:08

Have a browse through Lands End selection here www.landsend.co.uk/mSearch?start=12&cgid=5945&sz=12&pdtPerRow=2 lots of nice, not too girly and very weather proof styles. They're puffas are down filled.

cerealqueen · 03/12/2013 22:09

How old is she?

Cherrypie32 · 03/12/2013 22:09

And 30% off with code WRAP30 until midnight - be quick if you like anything!

Cherrypie32 · 03/12/2013 22:10

Ha! Great minds Born Wink

bundaberg · 03/12/2013 22:12

lands end coats really are awesome

but for a cheaper alternative h&m are remarkably good too and you can get stuff pretty cheap right now using codes 1304 and 0560

tiredteddy · 03/12/2013 22:13

H&M sell great weather proof and warm coats. About £35. Or a puffa that is shower proof for about £20. Last really well.

NoComet · 03/12/2013 22:14

we have several outdoor outletstores, Mountin Warehouse etc. They have very warm ski jackets way below list price DCs and adult sizes. Millets had some nice ones too.

high street coats are expensive and rarely warm.

Must confess my two wore wild coloured cat, frog and flowery fleeced far more than coats when little.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 03/12/2013 22:17

I bought (my DD is 11.6 yo)
A Trespass waterproof navy coat ( she can wear to school. It has lots of pockets. Not the end of the world if she loses or damages it).
They also do a 3-in-1 (removeable fleece liner) but she wears a blazer.
Trespass online much cheaper than instore. They have some Outlet stores too. Be aware though they come up small.

For regular wear she has a Uniqlo ultra light down coat. It is so warm yet it folds up into it's pouch easily . Not a coat, it's definately a jacket but they have longer length ones.

eggsforbreakfast · 03/12/2013 22:18

Wow thankyou for the quick responses! I'll have a look at landsend.

She is 4, sorry, I should have mentioned that!

Sorry just seen the other posts, thankyou all so much. Yes I agree re the high street ones not being properly warm (aside from perhaps H&M). I'll look at all these suggestions Smile

I saw the trespass one you mention 70 - made a mental note to get that as a school coat when she starts next year.

Boden have sale on at the moment too. Still £40 though. Looks like a nice cosy coat.

eggsforbreakfast · 03/12/2013 22:27

Thanks Beamur I did look at Boden but they don't have many sizes left - this is a lesson to make winter coat decisions much earlier than 3rd December (she does have an interim coat if anyone is wondering, but yes, she is a bit like starballbunny says and would happily go outside in a hooded top at a push)

I've just bought this for my Dd

looks warm and waterproof!

Clayhead · 03/12/2013 22:30

The H&M skiwear ones are fab - mine have lasted several children!

defuse · 03/12/2013 22:34

This is a lovely and very warm jacket and reasonably priced too. It is very pink though, but great at keeping your little one warm.

Pancakeflipper · 03/12/2013 22:39

We usually had Mountain Warehouse but not impressed with stock this year (but that's boys not girls stock) and DS1 tore his one from last year. Just don't seem as well made.

Have Decathlon got anything for that age group? Usually reasonable cost and wear well.

we got Landsend this year for DS2 (age 5) More expensive but size wise might last for next year. And DS2 loves it for warmth.

Ivytheterrible · 03/12/2013 22:44

I have the Boden ski jacket for my Dd aged 3. Very warm and waterproof so far.

Jbck · 03/12/2013 22:48

Another vote for the H & M range, really excellent quality, cosy and waterproof.

thethighshaveit · 03/12/2013 22:50

We have a primark navy puffa for my 2 year old, £10 and really cosy and warm. You can't buy online though.

Cherrypie32 · 04/12/2013 10:32

In case you were still looking Lands end are doing kids down coats at half price today only x

fossil971 · 04/12/2013 10:35

I would second Trespass, they always have lots in the sale. Only ski coats seem to be both warm and properly waterproof not just showerproof. British weather is frequently wet AND cold! My DS's have really colourful ones.

fossil971 · 04/12/2013 10:37

here for instance

festivefrolics · 04/12/2013 10:40

I got my DD's Monsoon winter coats this year, pricey but amazingly good. Where we live an excellent winter coat is essential!

carrie74 · 04/12/2013 10:40

I've been really impressed with my DD's Lands End coat this year, as has she. In the past we've had H&M, Helly Hansen and Gap, and I've been happy with them too, but the Lands End one wins hands down.
