Busty women - what clothes have you bought in 'normal' shops??

BobPatSamandIgglePiggle · 24/11/2013 20:03

..that fit well?

I'm 5'2", size 14/16 and a 34gg
I hate internet shopping as I'm never in for deliveries, don't drive and its a chew on going to the sorting office / sending stuff back.

I'm sick of looking frumpy and really want to make more effort. I like smart casual but tend to hide behind clothes at the minute.

I have a horrible overhang / big low belly from eating too many cakes c section which i like to try to hide.

We've got a pepperberry in town but it's tiny and I'm not massively keen on their stuff. I'm a bit skint so definitely high street and just wondered what 'normal' clothes you stylish, short busty ladies wear??

Watching with great interest as I am a 5.2' , 34H gal. I too desperately need to improve the way I dress. So far, all I've done is to decide that scarves are my friend, and I've bought one or two.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 24/11/2013 21:17

I'm 5'2 and 1 32E. I'm living in:
Whistles tube skirts
Hobbs cowl neck t-shirts
Biker jackets
M&S jumper dresses
Skinnies and long vests, with a fairly fitted jumper over (eg from Cos)
And yes to scarves.

sillymillyb · 24/11/2013 21:36

I have no advice, I just want to join the 5ft 2 and 34G club..... and steal ideas for where to buy clothes from!

remus how do you wear your scarf? Mine always looks like I've plonked it on a shelf.... I need more length I suspect!

Curioustiger · 24/11/2013 21:43

Yes can I ask the scarf question as well? I am 5'4", 32 FF, and a tiny bit short necked... Nothing awful but for example I don't look great in chokers etc. Scarves seem so bulky on me. I wore them roman abramovich style for ages, but that looks so sloaney now. Please advise!

LydiaDeetz · 24/11/2013 21:43

At the moment, white stuff wrap dresses or Joules dresses are nice (sorry I know wrap is a style sin here but they suit me); gap legging jeans and cords and levis curve jeans. Some nice tops and jumpers from Boden ( although I know this isn't highstreet) I would recommend Oasis for smart ish tops (tshirt material but with little sleeves).

LydiaDeetz · 24/11/2013 21:45

Oh am 5'3" and 34HH Shock

Queenofknickers · 24/11/2013 21:46

Placemarking - I am 5'3 with 32GGs...... I have had good stretchy tops with cowl neck (and decent length) from phase eight....

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 24/11/2013 21:46

Erm...Mostly like the middle pic on here, I think Here

Curioustiger · 24/11/2013 21:48

Just realised I haven't answered your question OP. Not a precise answer but in general, I think the absolute worst thing for busty women is puffy short sleeves that end at about boob height. Makes me look like a line backer, and I have a narrow back. So avoid.

I go for dresses mostly as they're easy to wear. Karen Mullen is good for curves I think, as is French connection this season. I'm also rather partial to Joules at the moment. I wear pencil skirts and vests with cardis a lot. Three quarter length sleeves work best on me. I should wear heels every day...

LydiaDeetz · 24/11/2013 21:50

Some Hobbs stuff too when I can afford. Crew Clothing sometimes. I used to get lots in fatface. Mostly stretch jersey fabrics and anything with a defined waist is good. Wrap tops are nice me. I got this from Oasis www.google.co.uk/search?client=ms-android-samsung&source=android-browser-type&hl=en-GB&q=oasis+burgundy+top&spell=1&sa=X&ei=DXSSUvOAJcSp7AaU6ICQBQ&ved=0CDwQvwUoAA&biw=640&bih=335&rlz=1Y1XIUG_enGB513GB513#biv=i%7C3%3Bd%7CYSCcNJPCsI7fWM%3A

Curioustiger · 24/11/2013 21:51

Phase eight is good but I always check the length of the dress... Their knee length stuff comes up in two lengths mainly, 97-100 cm ish and 105cm plus (can you tell I Internet shop?) the former is much much more flattering on me.

helzapoppin2 · 24/11/2013 21:51

If buying on the internet, anything in a stretchy fabric, or I'm sunk!

Curioustiger · 24/11/2013 21:53

Remus you have linked to a page with hundreds of images....

StatisticallyChallenged · 24/11/2013 21:53

I'm a 30HH, and have quite a lot of clothes from Hobbs, Phase Eight, French Connection, LadyVVintage, Pepperberry, ASOS, I've got a couple of dresses from Closet recently and was pleasantly surprised by the quality...occasionally Monsoon although it's getting increasing frumpy. I've got a dress from Me&Em which was good

I wear a lot of dresses - particularly styles which work with belts so I can stop them hanging off my boobs although I have recently bought a few more fitted dresses. I love cowl neck tops - either longer over jeans (with a very thin waist belt if they aren't fitted) or tucked in to skirts for work. I love skater/fit and flare type dresses which accentuate my waist. Wrap dresses also work well (although I do need Spanx for those!). Sweetheart necklines are fabulous on me as well.

annaban · 24/11/2013 21:53

Hi, I'm slightly taller, but super busty and broad of back Confused

I quite like DP clothes, they seem quite generously proportioned HOWEVER, the quality is generally grim, so if it's a work wardrobe, then it's a 2/3 times a year replacement (but priced accordingly)

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 24/11/2013 21:58

Tiger - don't know how to do it then, sorry. It works for me.

maryannmarie · 24/11/2013 22:24

Anything that ties around the waist is your friend.

Curioustiger · 24/11/2013 22:26

Have just been playing around Remus and think it is me, so no worries! It's happened on a few links today!

BananaramaLlama · 24/11/2013 22:29

I wear a lot of East wrap-style tops - some with vest under as they are v low cut.

peachypips · 24/11/2013 22:31

I am also 5'2" and have 32 G boobs so reading with interest!

UnicornsNotRiddenByGrownUps · 24/11/2013 22:37

Iv just bought a jersey material dress from people tree and it's lovely. I'm same size bra as you but a wee bit taller. I think it's more the material rather than the shop although I tend to give H&M (for anything other than basics) and TopShop a widddddee berth. Sadly I don't have the cash to be shopping in some of the places mentioned further up the thread but was recently pleasantly by the choice and shape of M&Co dresses.

Twinklestein · 24/11/2013 23:52

Don't know if I count as busty - I'm 5'5" 32E/30F

Who says wrap is a 'style sin'? - if it's good enough for DvF & Issa it's good enough for me. They're ace for bustiness... (except you have to wear camis with DvF)

Empire line dresses are very good for hiding tummies - Phase Eight do them Monsoon, White Stuff, East etc...

BillStickersIsInnocent · 25/11/2013 07:41

I like boat necks (32F) Boden has a lovely one apart from the tit pocket, and low scoop necks - Whistles seam back tees are lovely.

I'm apple shaped and v necks seem to accentuate this, also fear looking to busty and spilling out, so I avoid now.

Have just bought a high neck swing dress (sort of Me and Em style but cheaper Asos version) and it's really flattering. Also scarves and necklaces but I try to keep my top half simple - thin fabrics, dark colours, no pattern. Bottom half is smaller so go to town with patterns and textures and as of this weekend sequins. Smile

nickEcave · 25/11/2013 13:36

I'm 4' 11' and 30G. I've got some lovely dresses from Joules in the last year. The "daphne eden stripe" was described as a tunic but is definitely a dress on me. I also find some White Stuff tunics work well as dresses on me. White Stuff clothes are generously cut so, although my boobs usually make me a 14 on top in most high street shops, I take a 12 or sometimes a 10 at White Stuff. Phase Eight is very nice for smarter things and their tops seem to be well cut for bigger boobs although they are expensive.

nickEcave · 25/11/2013 13:41

Oh and I second wearing heels or in my case wedges, as I can't walk in heels. The Byriony wedge ankle boots from White Stuff are comfy enough for walking around in all day and in the spring I had some scholl ballet flats that had a small wedge. I find even a tiny wedge gives me just enough height to not feel frumpy. Oh and don't buy double-breasted coats. I made that mistake last year and it makes me look massively top-heavy. If you're short and busty then coats really need to be snug fitting with as little material as possible over your boobs!
