Busty women - what clothes have you bought in 'normal' shops??

..that fit well?

I'm 5'2", size 14/16 and a 34gg
I hate internet shopping as I'm never in for deliveries, don't drive and its a chew on going to the sorting office / sending stuff back.

I'm sick of looking frumpy and really want to make more effort. I like smart casual but tend to hide behind clothes at the minute.

I have a horrible overhang / big low belly from eating too many cakes c section which i like to try to hide.

We've got a pepperberry in town but it's tiny and I'm not massively keen on their stuff. I'm a bit skint so definitely high street and just wondered what 'normal' clothes you stylish, short busty ladies wear??

I'd like to join the club, at 5'4'' and 32GG.

I always go for V necks or scoop necks, and manage to find some good (inexpensive) basics in Gap. Then add a scarf for warmth if I need it, rather than going for a higher neckline.

I am pregnant at the moment so style is being sacrificed for comfort, but I am getting really annoyed at the lack of sleep or maternity bras for larger sizes - surely we need them the most!! (I have always felt the same about sports bras too).

HazleNutt · 25/11/2013 14:15

beela for sports bras, Freya Active comes in GG.
I tried maternity and nursing bras, but just couldn't accept that I'm supposed to be walking around with a sweaty mono-boob around my bellybutton. So bought normal bras and converted them into nursing bras myself, can highly recommend.

I know OP said she hates internet shopping, but besides pepperberry, there is also this Polish company that does clothes for busty women. I have several items from there, bought based on their sizing guide. Like the quality better than pepperberry. biubiu.pl/lang/en

I'm 5ft 7" and a 38GG. I'm also very short wasted with long legs and a long time ago worked out that separates are not my friend. I wear a lot of dresses- empire line, cross over and 50s style- and leggings and tights with cardigans when it's cold. It's the only way I've found to dress my boobs.

VarsityQueen · 25/11/2013 15:01
  • I wear lots of crew neck cardigans which I wear open as I think having the vertical lines slims the bust. I've got some warm ones from Benetton recently.
  • I look for longer length t-shirts and tops, e.g this one from Reiss (the neckline would be better lower) or this from Tesco to wear underneath.
  • V necks or sweetheart or square. Nothing too high
  • I also got this from Next the other day which is good on me (30FF), 2in1 tops are a bit naff but this one is quite realistic.
  • Also longline thin (but warm) jumpers, this one from Wrap is very nice (though £££).
  • Avoid all shirts and blouses and chunky knit jumpers. Blazers need to be slightly longline and are usually best worn open

hazlenutt, how did you convert your regular bras?

I fed DS for a year and hope to do similar this time round, but don't fancy another 12 months of sweaty mono-boob... in fact that is the main thing that would put me off.

(sorry for hi-jack).

HazleNutt · 25/11/2013 19:46

It's really easy, see here: www.motherwearuk.com/page23.htm
I can now wear my normal Freya and Fantasie bras, no more wobbling.

HazleNutt, you may have saved my figure and my sanity for the next year or so.... thank you Smile

I'm 5ft 2 and 32F

I buy quite a lot from Boden - always in Black stretchy fabric. I tend to wear short skirts and dresses with a cardigan. Hobbs is good and have had some nice stuff from Oasis of late.

My legs are nice so I draw attention to that bit with short skirts and boots
or wedge courts

winklewoman · 26/11/2013 16:38

5'7" and 36FF or 32H Freya (yes, I know) . That's after a reduction, albeit 25 years ago. God knows what they would be like now otherwise. Agree with recommendations for East. I have just received my first dress from Joe Browns, stretchy fabric, very flattering. Fridgepants is so right about boobs taking up so much fabric unwanted Empire line look is created.

BobPatSamandIgglePiggle · 30/11/2013 18:08

Some fantastic recommendations - thanks! I too struggle with waisted things as the waist sits way above my actual waist by the time it gets over the hills that are my boobs!
