IDugUpADiamond · 24/11/2013 18:39

snowboots Grin

onlysettleforbutterflies · 24/11/2013 18:39

I have bought some ice grip things that just go over your normal shoes from amazon. I have a massive phobia of ice so plan to keep these in my bag ready for bad weather. Can't wait to give them a go.

ArtisanLentilWeaver · 24/11/2013 18:40

Thick socks and wellies.

MollyBerry · 24/11/2013 18:43

wellies and socks
if it's just a bit slushy then i wear my uggs as they are warmer

EagleRay · 24/11/2013 18:44

these

Fab in snow (I live on a notoriously snowy/icy steep hill) and v cosy too! They're on their 4th winter now.

SirChenjin · 24/11/2013 18:45

Wellies or my hiking boots and Yak Trax - my best winter buy ever. Can highly recommend them - no more slipping on the ice, yay!

Thurlow · 24/11/2013 18:46

These Cotton Trader boots. Yes, they look hideous, but they work well. And they'll last for years. I gave in last year and bought them, just accepting that we're going to have a spate of bad winters again.

thriftychic · 24/11/2013 18:47

think i will be getting some of those grip thingummys !

Army boots.

Rooble · 24/11/2013 18:48

These: mobile.snowandrock.com/calzat-women's-fur-trim-traction/snow-boots/ski-snowboard-outdoor-sports/fcp-product/23688
I'm also on a big, icy hill and get several weeks of snow every year. This year got second pair as the old ones weren't retaining heat any more (after 6 years). The traction thing is brilliant

andiem · 24/11/2013 18:48

these

MissGuineapigsPlaysConkers · 24/11/2013 18:49

Big thick socks and steel toe capped boots. I call them my 4x4 bootsGrin

exexpat · 24/11/2013 18:50

Snow boots, or thermal-lined walking boots for dog-walking. If you just want something warm and non-slip, you can get a vast array of snow boots on ebay for less than £25 (new).

I bought DD and myself a pair each for a ski trip last year which only cost about £12 and they were fine. They probably wouldn't last more than a year of daily wear for three or four months' worth of snow if you live in that kind of area, but for the couple of weeks of snow that you're likely to get in the UK they'll be fine for a few years.

milktraylady · 24/11/2013 18:51

Eagle they look good & a good discount too.
How accurate is the sizing?
Do they come up big?

Can you wear normal socks & jeans with them, or do you need boot socks?

LittleTulip · 24/11/2013 18:52

My merrell oslos they're fab and going strong third winter running

eurochick · 24/11/2013 18:52

Rooble I have those too. I got them last winter and they were great on the ice.

They have flip out studs, so you can flip them out for ice, back in for tarmac so you are not tap dancing. I love them.

heymammy · 24/11/2013 18:55

Merely Puffin boots, warm and waterproof but I do find them a bit slippy so use the grippy things too Smile

heymammy · 24/11/2013 18:56

Merrell of course not Merely!

BeCoolSodaPop · 24/11/2013 19:01

A previous season of these boots from Next.

I got a bigger size so I can wear thermal socks with them. Last year I couldn't get my car out of my road so had to collect the DCs from school on foot. I walked for over an hour in them, they were toasty warm! Oh and an hour back.

The children also have snow boots, previously from Costco but they have some from Go Outdoors when they had a sale on. We are always prepared because we have had some serious snow in the last 5 years, I live in Yorkshire.

Milktraylady I'm a size 8, and the boots are an 8, so think sizing is pretty average. I just wear normal socks and tuck jeans/trousers inside or over the top.

They're really light and bouncy to wear - and they were heaven when pg last winter!

Bought then on Amazon for £35 but can't find them there now, but this other site seems to be selling them

goodasitgets · 24/11/2013 20:02

Ariat grasmere
££ but on their 3rd winter and going strong. Toasty feet and no slipping. If very icy I use yaktrax grips

annhathaway · 24/11/2013 20:35

It depends. I tend not to go out when we have our 1 day of snow each year or possibly 2. No DCs at home and work from home too.
If I have to walk locally then it's walking boots with a huge tread. If it's anywhere smarter then I have some Clarks boots with a good tread.

Likeaninjanow · 24/11/2013 20:38

Merrells every year. Completely waterproof, cosy, and look pretty cool too!
