DMs and icegrips.

101handbags · 25/11/2013 11:31

Yep - I have previous season Next snowboots too - they are fab.

Vibbe · 25/11/2013 11:42

It depends on how much snow there is and how far I'm going.

If there's 15-20 cm snow (like last week), I wear Timberland ankle boots (these ones: a2.zassets.com/images/z/2/2/6/9/4/9/2269493-p-MULTIVIEW.jpg ) which are super comfortable and I can walk in them all day.

If there's more snow, I wear my Sorel Caribou boots. They are also nice if standing out in a field for hours in freezing weather while training the dog. They are comfy to wear but very heavy, so not great for walking far.

Sorel make similar boots but where the leather bit has been replaced with nylon - I also have a very old pair of those, and they are much better to walk in, but I find them to be a bit more narrow than the Caribous so I don't use them much anymore.

OldBeanbagz · 25/11/2013 11:46

Leather walking boots. They have loads of grip and much warmer than wellies.

GemmaTeller · 25/11/2013 11:47

My flowery Regatta wellies or my Caterpillar Mardy boots

milktraylady · 25/11/2013 12:06

Thanks for the reply eagle. I want to get them but nervous to buy shoes on tinternet! Returns would be v expensive I'm guessing.

lookatmybutt · 25/11/2013 14:33

I'm a Merrell fan too: comfy, warm, waterproof, good in the snow. You can get end of lines a bit cheaper on ebay, but they are worth it anyway because they last forever.

EagleRay · 25/11/2013 21:09

Just checked the website again milktraylady and the popular sizes are sold out - oh poo! (only 3/7/8 left)

They are selling on Ebay in all sizes, but cost £48...

Just checked the returns policy on that website and it's interesting - when ordering you can buy a returns label for £1.49 then if you want to send them back you send them via Collect+ (courier service). However, if you don't buy a label in advance, it will cost you £2.99 to return them. Bit of a gamble, but good to know you could send them back for a relatively low price.

NearTheWindmill · 25/11/2013 21:14

My slippers Grin. Unless I have to go out when either I wear wellies with walking socks if it's deep and my walking boots if it isn't.

nomoreminibreaks · 28/11/2013 12:43

I have these from Clarks. Comfy and waterproof and double up as general winter boots. I got mine in the sale in January - just before it started snowing!

spiderlight · 28/11/2013 12:59

These or these

AngelaDaviesHair · 28/11/2013 13:00

Either wellies or a pair of cheapy but warm ankle boots from Lands End with fake fur trim, grippy sole and fleece lining.

Deux · 28/11/2013 13:06

I wear ankle height Timberlands. They have good treads and are waterproof. Have icegrips too if it's compacted and slippy.

But i wear my Timberlands all winter, now on my 4th winter so cost per wear has been tiny.

Tigerblue · 28/11/2013 13:55

If I'm walking locally to the shops or a friends then snowboots - got mine from Next a couple of years ago and they keep your feet warm and dry. If I had to go into town on the bus, then I'd probably wear my trainers which would grip more (rather than ankle boots).

Laska42 · 28/11/2013 14:22

Dubarry Kildare yes they are really expensive but i've had them 5 years and they look great, are really warm and waterproof and are still going strong. Lots of people seem to like the Galway best , but I prefer calf length

loraflora · 28/11/2013 16:45

I have seen a near identical version of Thurlow's Cotton Trader boots for just over half the price here. essentials.guardianoffers.co.uk/buy.cfm/footwear/unisex-all-weather-boots/41/no/83459 Admittedly they are hideous but I am tempted to get them for muddy walks and snow.

Thurlow · 28/11/2013 16:49

Yep, they are hideous! Grin But very practical, and once it's snowing I don't think too many people care what they look like as long as they are warm and not falling over. What was the price I linked to? I think I got them for about £20-ish from a garden centre.

I've just ordered a pair of these for cold days. I struggle with boots. I have about 40-50 mins of walking too and from the CM's and the train station every day so I want something warm and hardwearing, but not the ugliest things ever. I always find my journeys to work hilarious. At the train station (Home Counties) everyone is in a decent, warm hooded coat or ski jacket with sensible boots on. By the time I get off the Tube in the City, everyone is in smart, fashionable coats and heels!
