...but not Estee Lauder Double Wear, Lancôme Teint Idole, Bare Minerals, Clarins Everlasting and Ever Matte, YSL or Dior Forever....Grin

After faithfully using DW for years I need a change. I've had samples from all of the above but they're just not cutting the mustard. Can't get my shade just right in Lancôme, Clarins foundations are lovely but not long lasting enough on me and the Dior Forever seemed to change colour after a few hours. As for the Bare Minerals....lets not even go there. YSL's long lasting foundation was about 2 shades too dark (that was the lightest shade !)

I have access to MAC, Illamasqua, Elizabeth Arden, Benefit, Clinique, Bobbi Brown, Chanel, Givenchy and Guerlain. What else is there that I could try.

I'm 39, just getting over a major spotty outbreak with an oily t zone. Some lines around my eyes. I slap my make up on at 7am every morning so need it to last the day. I use primer and set with a loose powder.....

I have similar skin and have liked chanel matte lumiere, clinique stay matte

Sillysarah49 · 20/11/2013 16:43

I have just applied for this first time this morning Borjois Healthy Mix Serum foundation. Wasn't too hopeful, but it wasn't too expensive and I can't believe how good it is. Covers really well, blends nicely and the colour was perfect. Really happy - have spent a fortune over the years on more expensive brands - wish I'd found this earlier.

50hoo · 20/11/2013 17:12

Bobbi Brown's oil free compact was like an oil-slick on me - it's so waxy. I went for Clinique's even better compact foundation. Lasts all day on my combi skin.

spacegirl81 · 20/11/2013 17:19

Another vote for the Boujour healthy mix; it's lovely and covers really well Grin

LittleTulip · 20/11/2013 17:21

I've started using Bella Pierre mineral foundation and it is just wow. Have used Double wear, mac studio fix, bobbi brown long wear and this just comes up trumps. It's still to make its mark in the UK market but it will be big I'm telling you! Check out the reviews on makeupalley for it.

cannotfuckingbelievethis · 20/11/2013 17:38

oops, forgot to mention I had also used Boujois Healthy mix.... was a bit underwhelmed by it. Was nice for about an hour then slid off.

How about diorskin nude? I use it and I absolutely love it.
I have oily skin and also use Clarins Everlasting foundation (which I do find harder to get to look really nice on the skin).

You could also have a look at Astalift's foundations and Laura Merciers foundations/tinted moisturisers. Mac face & body could also work - I haven't tried it myself though.

cannotfuckingbelievethis · 20/11/2013 19:06

i'm just being bloody awkward now, I know, but I tried Dior nude on my hand and it looked incredibly sheer.

Astalift's stuff looks quite interesting....

Don't know if it is oil-free, but I am using Bobbi Brown stick foundation and it is fabuloso, has even seduced me away from Lily Lolo. Skin looks amazing and it stays put all day.

DisappointedHorse · 20/11/2013 19:12

Laura Mercier oil free foundation is brilliant. The moisturising one just made me look like an oil slick.

Most foundations are too beige for me but the ivory rose is perfect. It's expensive though.

Walnut8 · 21/11/2013 10:19

have you tried makeup forever HD foundation? My skin is a bit too dehydrated/dry but it's apparently brilliant on oily skin.

Dipsey00 · 21/11/2013 10:22

I make up artist friend swears by mac and bobby brown all the way and I have been very impressed with Mac and would not use anything else now.

Walnut8 · 21/11/2013 10:24

If you have breakouts I would be pretty careful with MAC ...

HerdyHerdwick · 21/11/2013 10:45

For me, Max Face Finity All Day Flawless 3 in 1 lasts through the work day and only needs blotting once or twice. I apply it at 6am and it's still there at 7pm. My skin usually drinks up foundation within a couple of hours of me applying it, or turns into a grease ball. Doesn't happen with this one.
The coverage is medium to heavy, I get medium coverage if I use a damp sponge (quaint!).
The best thing is that it does come in a light shade, Light Ivory, but that one can be hard to track down, my local Boots doesn't stock it but bigger branches usually have it. I was wearing the next shade up which is Warm Almond through the summer and am just now thinking I may want to go to the lighter shade for winter. I'm very fair skinned.

Branleuse · 21/11/2013 10:52

why do you need a change from DW? Tbh, ive tried soooo many foundations, and I dont think anything else compares to doublewear for longevity while still looking natural

MacAndCheese · 21/11/2013 10:55

Another vote for the make up forever HD foundation here! Their primers are also fantastic.

cannotfuckingbelievethis · 21/11/2013 10:59

I spoke about this on another thread but DW just makes my skin look awful now. Settles in any lines, clings to any dry patches and generally makes me look like an old bag. I've tried it with various combinationsf moisturiser and primer with the same result.

cannotfuckingbelievethis · 21/11/2013 11:00

Where can I get samples of make up forever?

OP posts:
Walnut8 · 21/11/2013 11:37

DW does the same to me - I look old and haggish in it. TBH, you may not get along with makeup forever HD either then... but definitely try it if you can (I'm not based in the UK so not sure the best place to get samples?)

Another one I love is Giorgio Armani Lasting silk - great coverage and finish. Not sure how it will last on the oily parts of your skin though. Have you tried it?

ColinButterfly · 21/11/2013 11:38

Benefit flawless for me.

killedanotherthread · 21/11/2013 13:01

Boots No 7 Beatifully Matte replaced EL DW for me.

lifesgreatquestions · 21/11/2013 13:27

I think MAC is great if you're looking for long wearing. I can come home in the evening after a full on long day and catch myself in the mirror and become quite vain!

QuinnFabray · 21/11/2013 14:08

Similar age, similar skin here. Forever in search of the ONE foundation that looks natural, and doesn't slide off my face within hours.

The Bourjois healthy mix foundations do just that ( slide off my face ). I have to say, the one that out performs them all is ELDW, on top of MAC spf 50 primer. Applied sparingly with my fingers, then smoothed over with a buffing brush.

I've pretty much tried every 'long lasting' foundations out there, yet always go back to ELDW.

Others that I've tried and not hated are Givenchy éclat matissme, Becca matte skin shine proof foundation ( this one is good ), and currently trying Dolce & Gabbana Perfect Matte, which is also good, but only available in Harrods. If you go to The Beauty Professor's blog, she does amazing swatches of foundation shades, so if you need to order online you can normally find a good colour match there of high end foundations. I also love the finish of Diorskin Nude, and it doesn't oil up on me toooo quickly.

One more that is very natural looking and lasts nearly as long as ELDW is Revlon Colorstay's whipped crème foundation, but sadly this isn't available in the UK, and I buy it from eBay.

babySophieRose · 21/11/2013 20:08

Clinique super balanced! I am going to buy it again when the current Vichy is done.

Eliza22 · 21/11/2013 20:15

L'loreal Nude Magic. New, in the oblong bottle. Really "real skin" look, IMO.
