"Budget" Skincare Recommendations Please

I had been using Clarins for a few years but recently been looking for something a bit cheaper.

I tried Liz Earle for the last month and the cleanser is running out. I've not been so impressed as to buy it again.

Any recommendations for a "high street" range. Are the likes of Nivea, Olay, Simple, etc as good as the more expensive brands?

olay is the best IMHO
L'oreal is also good for the slightly above pennies.

the person I knew with the best skin in the world (at 44) .. used to swear by vaseline .. took her make-up off with it ... used it as a moisturiser

sometimes I use it as a deep moisturiser overnight .. takes about 30 minutes to sink in though .. you look like an oil slick for a while

but it is fab .. and dirt cheap

northender · 11/07/2006 23:43

Aqueous cream. I'm such a cheapskate but it seems to work and is very cheap!

moondog · 11/07/2006 23:44

Avon stuff a lot of which is very good and highly rated by beauty knowitalls.

Gillian76 · 11/07/2006 23:45

Do you have to get it from an Avon Lady, moondog?

loreal ahve got 1/3 of in boots at the moment I have just bought some as part of my economising.

Gillian76 · 11/07/2006 23:46

Was also wondering about the Body Shop, but don't know how I feel about it since Anita sold up...

I think you can get it online.
I find the Anew range just as good (if not better) than stuff 4/5 times the price.

I bought some from the village Avon lady to be cordial when i moved here, and two years on,always puti n an order.

Tiggiwinkle · 11/07/2006 23:49

I use vaseline too Twiglett-I have extremely dry skin and it is the only thing that moisturises for any length of time. I blot it with a tissue afterwards to take off the excess shine!

schneebly · 11/07/2006 23:55

I have been using a night cream from Lidl and it is really good!

kokeshi · 12/07/2006 00:07

I bought L'Oreal as a present recently for someone in their 40s. Her skin looks amazing, and she's had quite a few compliments on it since she's been using it (unprompted too!). Two of them: Revitalift Day Cream plus Revitalift Night Cream. I think it was about a tenner per pot. She positively glows! Might be a bit out of your price range though.

Gillian76 · 12/07/2006 00:08

£10 is not too bad. I was paying about £30 for a Clarins moisturiser!

Only ever use cheapest bottle of sensitive Olay
face cream I can find, usually in Boots & u get
points too!

Tried all of em, Aveda, Clarins, Lancome & always go back to Olay.

KTeePee · 12/07/2006 07:30

Boots Botanics range has something similar to Clarins Flash Beauty Balm for £4.50

Gillian76 · 12/07/2006 10:36

Any ideas for an exfoliator/scrub?

the boots time defying stuff is lovely, about £8 for a pot of moisturiser. doesn't marie helvin use olive oil?

mrsflowerpot · 12/07/2006 17:02

Another vote for Olay - I've switched from Clarins to the total effects radiance one. It makes you look like you've actually had sleep .

merrily · 12/07/2006 17:30

I used to use Clarins Multi-Active Day Cream back when I earned a decent wage. I have found that Olay Multi-Radiance is a pretty good substitute and only a quarter of the price (£7.50). Not sure about cleanser, but I use Simple face wash and that works just fine.
