Warm boots suitable for the side of the rugby pitch. Sorel Joan of Arctic?

I spend most of my weekends at the side of various sports fields, in the mud, and am fed up of having cold feet. Therefore I need warm, waterproof and stylish boots that I can also take skiing. I really like the look of Sorel's Joan of Arctic boot but they have poor reviews for comfort and are too expensive to get wrong. Can anyone recommend an alternative? Or do you have these and like them?

Oooh, they're nice.

I'm just jumping on the bandwagon as I have the same requirements for the same reason. Preferably easy to get on, too, as I'm hugely pregnant and my current Rocket Dog Hazels are getting too difficult to pull on.

cakebar · 19/11/2013 11:05

I have these. They are very warm, and waterproof and would be good in mud but I only wear them when it snows or is freezing because they are heavy on my feet and not that comfy. I think it's because there is a lot of space around my foot but they are tight on my shin. I don't know if I would buy them again, but I suppose they will last forever and I need something to walk in snow in.

I am always comparing to some lovely boots I had pre 3dc though and now they don't fit :(

PottyLotty · 19/11/2013 11:08

I wear these but in brown rather than lilac/pink in the picture. They are brilliant for the rugby pitch. Warm dry feet every week. The rest of me freezes to death but my feet are toasty Grin www.trekwear.co.uk/womens/footwear/snow_boots/hi_tec_st_moritz_womens_snow_boots_plum_dark_taupe.htm

Thanks everyone, some good links.
Cake bar your comments echo the online reviews about the boots not being comfortable.

I've got the Cate the Great ones, they are super comfortable and really warm & waterproof, so great for ski hols. BUT Sad the leather comes down quite low at the back and sides so may not be good for very muddy fields.
Cate the Great

Before that I had a really rufty tufty pair of Keen boots that I gave to my Mum, they are a lot like these

I bought some Joan of Arctics last winter but they really were uncomfortable, impossible to drive in and a pig to get on and off. I sold them on eBay after a few wears and got myself a pair of Merrell Oslos which are warm and super comfy.

Abzs · 19/11/2013 14:52

My SIL has the Sorel Caribou and sings their praises every winter. Not quite so stylish though.

Artandco · 19/11/2013 15:12

They are great in snow but not on regular paths as the grippy soft soles wear away ( I took two pairs back after holes appeared in soles with 4-6 weeks of wear)

Queenofknickers · 19/11/2013 15:14

Place marking as another rugby mum who freezes her tits feet off every week.... Ah views on North Face boots anyone?

Foxred10 · 19/11/2013 15:15

I've got the Joan of Arctics and find them really comfy? Wear them for driving / walking / humphing about a building site and have loved them!

I'm a bit tempted by these.

monicalewinski · 19/11/2013 16:14

My 'Rugby Mum' boots

These are what I have, they're perfect for the rugby/football pitchside. Don't have a clue about skiing, but they should be good for in the snow as they have good soles.

Not as stylish and pricey as the ones you were looking at, but very practical and cheap (so you can get another pair of swanky snow boots too which won't be ruined by mud!).

Thanks everyone, some great ideas and links. One of the links led me to these Holly boots on Amazon, a great price and look warm, so I have ordered them and saved £100 (I would of got the Sorels without your advice).

I've had my JoA boots for 4 years and they look just as good now and are so warm and comfortable. I love them.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 20/11/2013 14:42

My DS plays rugby and I've never been invited to watch him play Angry

DH has been though Hmm

And I've got Trespass Snow Boots that are warm and waterproof.

Very Envy

PottyLotty · 20/11/2013 14:46

70isaLimitNotaTarget dont you stand on the side of the pitch and watch during training then ? How old is your rugby player ?

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 20/11/2013 14:50

He plays at school.
They've had a couple of inter-school matches (which DH went to, I was at work)

I think he doesn't want to see me there TBH ( he's 14yo. I remember being 14 so I don't force the issue Grin )

I had to take him to have his thumb X-Rayed when he broke it though .

PottyLotty · 20/11/2013 14:52

Ahhh school rules are different.

I coach under 7's and current regulations state parents must no longer dump their kids on the pitch and hide in the clubhouse drinking coffee. They must now freeze their socks off like everyone else on the side of the pitch Grin

Have you asked him if you can watch ? Maybe he just doesnt want to ask you to go and see him incase you think its a bit odd ?

TobyLerone · 20/11/2013 14:55

It's not all glamour on the side of the rugby pitch, 70 :o

I've never been to any of DS's school matches (he's also 14), but he also plays for the town club, so I get the pleasure of carting him and 3 tons of mud around the county every Sunday and standing in the rain for a couple of hours. You're really missing out!

AngieM2 · 20/11/2013 16:10

Ive got the Timberlands....not warm at all. I'm off to search for some battery operated foot warmer insoles.

CPtart · 20/11/2013 16:28

Just bought a lovely pair of thinsulate black waterproof almost knee high lace up boots from Mountain Warehouse. Fur lined, fur top trim, lovely and warm-bought mine for similar football watching filled weekends. Reduced from a hundred pounds to £49.99 and there is an online code for a further 20% off if you search making them £39.99. Bargain!

Pufflemum · 21/11/2013 07:31

Battery operated insoles?? Tell me more please. Do they have a remote control?

OP posts:
AngieM2 · 22/11/2013 17:32

Haven't found them yet but one of the rugby dads told me his wife has them for skiing. Normal depth foot insole with a small wire and thingy that keeps them warm for about 3 hours.
