Jeans for a pear shape

I know this has been done before on here, but I can't find any recent threads with styles currently online.

I am a size 12, 5'7", big hips/thighs, small waist. Fairly flat, but rather wobbly post-dc, tum.

Finding jeans to fit has always been a nightmare. Either they fit on the thighs/hips but are massive round the waist, or they fit on the waist but I can't cram my thunder thighs into them. Major gapage (it's a word) at the back if I wear low rise, plus I want tummy coverage so prefer a higher waist.

I adore Topshop Kristen high-waisters, but having worn my way through many pairs of these, I've come to the conclusion that they are a bit shoddy (fabric not v strong, knees go really quickly etc).

Any recommendations? I'd prefer jeans on the cheaper side (less than £50) but would save up if they were really fab. Want to order online to spare myself the hell of trying on jeans in shops.

TIA!

I am the same height and size as you and I am wearing Next high waisted skinny jeans (usually with a long-ish top over as I hate my thighs) I love these jeans and have them in size 10 Shock and black and denim.

hermioneweasley · 18/11/2013 16:29

I am v pear shaped and rate the Levi's curve range. I am a "bold" curve!

MN216 · 18/11/2013 16:29

I swear by Marks and Spencer Per Una Roma cut for my smallish waist/big hip and thigh issues. No gapage and a reasonably high waist so avoiding the muffin top problem (unless I have been seriously overindulging in muffins, in which case nothing can help!!). I know it's a MNet no-no, but I only wear Roma Bootcut as I optimistically believe they help balance out the aforementioned hip/thigh issue, but if bootcut not your thing, am pretty sure the Roma cut is available in other leg styles. Around £30 a pair. HTH.

You might find some ideas on the thread I started here though I'm a lot shorter.

Antidote · 18/11/2013 16:36

I recently got some of the twiggy for m&s high waisted jeggings to keep me going till I've lost the baby weight, and they are so bloody amazing I'm going to be getting then in a smaller size once I'm a bit less lardy.

I got then in long (I'm 5'9").

okthen · 18/11/2013 16:50

Thanks!

Any pear shapes tried Uniqlo?

OP posts:
okthen · 18/11/2013 16:52

Antidote- I like the sound of the jeggings, but I don't usually wear long tops. Would it look wrong to wear them with a hip-length top?

I have levis curve, uniqlo (bit big round the waist but ok with a belt) or Oasis Cherry.

Clayhead · 18/11/2013 16:59

I am also the same height and size and also wearing the Next high waisted skinny jeans (but I am not MillyoNaire! Smile)

shatteredstudentmum · 18/11/2013 17:00

I have next skinny high waist & love them, fit everywhere properly & I'm a pear shape

Antidote · 18/11/2013 17:06

I wear them with longer tops and they look great. They are amazingly dark indigo but not as thick as proper jeans so might go a bit in the knees.

okthen · 18/11/2013 17:42

Those who wear the Next skinny jeans, do you wear your normal size or is it one of those soul-destroying styles where you have to buy the next size up?

MillyONaire · 19/11/2013 22:35

Next size DOWN okthen!!!!!
Mine are a 10...did you hear that??? A TEN It's all I can do not to wear them inside out!!!

Cohenite · 20/11/2013 07:28

Just bought my first pair of next high waist skinniest and I ab- so -lutely adore them!

So flattering and comfortable, it won't be the last pair that I buy.

horcruxmanzini · 20/11/2013 10:12

i've just got a pair of Gap Real Straight in a long length, and was surprised by how flattering they are to my parsnip-pear shape. I find jeans that don't have too much stretch in them are more flattering than those ones that look like they're sprayed on and accentuate chunky thigh muscles.

It has taken me until now to be prised out of my skinny bootlegs, though.

Rooble · 20/11/2013 10:17

I'm a total convert to Levi Curve ID (I'm bold, too). Everything else (Gap, Uniqlo etc) really gapes at the waist, and if belted leaves a massive lump (of belted fabric). There are usually good sales after Christmas. You can check your size in John Lewis (a pleasanter experience than the Levi's shop I think), then wait till then?

FragglerockAmpersand · 20/11/2013 10:20

Ooooooooooooo watching with interest.

Is it OK if I had a plea for exactly the jeans you describe OP, but in a plus size? I need a 16/18, and I don't think the Levi Curve would go big enough. At the moment I'm wearing size 20 M&S 'sculpt and curve' straight leg jeans, but I didn't realise that jeans that 'fit comfortably' in the changing room will be 'absolutely gigantic' 24 hours later.

I've never worn jeans before (I'm 33 Grin) and it's a nightmare! Anything that goes over my hips and thighs is so huge around the stomach and waist I spend all day hoiking them up - there's just this huge sag of stiff material around my midriff a bit like the hoop in a clown's trousers.

Nightmare.

duckyfuzz · 20/11/2013 10:21

I've just got some gap real straight too and they are the most flattering jeans I've ever worn

dexter73 · 20/11/2013 10:24

Rooble - I first got fitted for Levis curve at the store and they were really helpful in getting me into the right size. They brought loads of different styles for me to try and I ended up with the perfect pair. I would really recommend going to a Levis store first to get fitted so you know what curve and what size to get and then maybe shop around for the jeans. I have bought them from M&M Direct and Amazon at good reductions.

dexter73 · 20/11/2013 10:27

Fraggle - I think it would be worth trying the Levis curve as they are on the generous side and go up to a 34" waist which would probably fit a 16/18. They are nice and stretchy too, but they don't give much on wearing so keep their shape.

mejon · 20/11/2013 10:36

fraggle - I have the Gap really straight ones and they really are fab as duckyfuzz says. Mine are a 32 which I think is a 16 and they do a 33 and 34 which I think would be an 18 or so.

okthen · 20/11/2013 11:45

Ooh- January sales are a very good shout! Would wait for Levi's til then as they are pricier.

Am scared to go into a Levi's store at my advanced age (33) and be measured by some lithe youth. John Lewis much less intimidating...

MillyONare- a size ten you say? clicks onto Next website

OP posts:
duckyfuzz · 20/11/2013 11:58

mejon I think 32 is a 14 Grin they go up to a 35 which is an 18
