Skincare suggestions please

I'd like to buy dd1 (18) some 'nice' face wash etc, possibly one of those 'taster sets' with a facewash, mini moisturiser etc, so that she can try the brand out.

In terms of makeup, she likes Mac, Benefit and Urban Decay but relies on gifts for them, as they are expensive. Is there a mid-priced starter skincare kit she might try? I wondered about the Clarins energizing stuff, but they don't seem to have a set right now, just individual products. Ideally I'd like a set of a few small bits but no more than £20. Her skin is typical English rose, with the odd spot.

Elemis have a range especially for teens to twenties. John Lewis stock it and I'm sure they had little bags with starter sets in. REN is also a good idea.

Dermalogica is a favourite of mine & they usually do gift sets - esp around this time of year!

Thanks all. Will have a look. She's tried REN before (lovely stuff) but found it too rich for her skin, I think. Off to check out the others now!

La Roche-Posay, excellent mid-price brand, available in Boots, often on 3 for 2. More successful for me than any other higher end brand. What sort of skin has she got?

Thanks, Quinn. See below - just fair, English rose-ish, the odd spot and blackhead, a bit delicate, burns really easily in the sun, but no real issues with greasiness etc.

Second Elemis. I think it's called fresh skin? I love the moisturiser

Dermalogicas do a great teen range but it is expensive. I would suggest, as someone already has, one of the French ranges as they are mid priced and have products suitable for youngsters:
La Roche Posay, Eucerin, Avene, etc

Bioderma and Avene are two French pharmacy brands that are affordable and at least for me work well. I think you can get the latter in some Boots stores. Una Brennan superfacialist is also good ( and in boots). I don't think that they do sets but the are quite reasonable and at that age you should need too many products (oh to have an 18 year old skin). Also, I'd recommend the blog Beautymouth by Caroline hirons who is an expert in all things skincare and is a real no nonsense woman!

Thanks all. The Elemis looks nice. Dermalogica is too expensive. I also looked at the Superdrug 'B' stuff, which seems to be on offer, online at least. They don't do sets but it looks nice and the prices are good - has anybody tried it?

If you like Elemis, if you haven't already try looking on QVC (shock!) as they often have sets/deals much cheaper than other places. Haven't tried the skincare for B but I have the makeup and wasn't that impressed.

Definitely Dermologica! I swear by it and would love to bought some as a pressie. I've tried so many different types over the years and this range is my favourite. They do nice mini gift sets too
