I want a warm nightdress that isn't frumpy...

I wear nightdresses rather than pyjamas, partly because my smallest Dd likes to snuggle in with me at night and warms her feet on my legs, she hates it if I have pjs on! Anyway, I am a chilly mortal, and tend to potter about in the morning in my nightie, so I like them to be long, and have sleeves at least to the elbow. I can only find frumpy, or super expensive. I would like to not look like my 82 year old Mum, and I also think £85 for a nightie is a bit steep. White Company have nice ones but all above the knee, ditto M+S, if they are long then they tend to be strappy, and its the shoulder bit of me that gets chilly! Anyone seen anything?

Anyone? M+S have a long one (autograph) but it has short sleeves.

www.landsend.co.uk/Womens_Patterned_Flannel_Nightshirt_/pp/P_26717.html looks warm & cosy

helzapoppin2 · 11/11/2013 13:54

LE have £20 off when you spend £75 at the moment.

hellymelly · 11/11/2013 17:13

I like that, but it is a shortie nightie in my book. I would buy it if it was longer, as I like the Wintery colours. I am tallish and want something to mid calf or longer. Definitely not above the knees

A bit like this? Or is that too frumpy?

BOF · 11/11/2013 17:23

Or go glam, and add a silky robe to a strappy one?

issynoho · 11/11/2013 17:43

I love a long long nightie too (am 5' 9"). Worth keeping an eye on M&S as they occasionally do longer nighties in nicer styles and prints.

I have two from Gudrun Sjoden from a couple of years ago. They are pricey (the sale is worth waiting for) but they have washed and worn really well. There is a new one on that link, I think - Alva nightdress. The Swedes need their warm nightwear.

Laska42 · 11/11/2013 18:26

Sulis silk jersey cant beat it, I prefer these plain ones and have the nightshirts which you may think are too frumpy , but they also do silk jersey nightdresses.
They also have lace trimmed ones. Yes, they are quite expensive but dont shrink or fade and they last years, I have lots of their silk camisoles too in all colours that I wear as a base layer in winter

Jellypudmum · 11/11/2013 19:18

Bump

mejon · 11/11/2013 19:42

Lands End do long and midi length long sleeved cotton jersey nighties too. Sorry can't link as I'm on my tab and I haven't worked out how to yet Blush.

hellymelly · 11/11/2013 22:20

I do have a Gudrun Sjoden one from about five years ago, it is lovely but short sleeved and made of thin gauzy cotton (strangely it was their Christmas nightie). I wear it all Summer, and my dd has one too as they sometimes also do them for little girls at Christmas. I think I will buy the one linked and probably the lovely silk jersey one, athough I am worried my dd's sharp little toe nails will snag it as she sleeps with her feet on my thighs!
BOF -I don't mind the long t-shirt shape you linked to, it looks soft and comfortable- I am a size 10/12 though, I'll see if there are smaller ones. I'd love to go glam but I find if I sleep with thin straps or a robe, then the straps dig into my shoulders or the robe my neck and I wake up with a crashing headache.

Have you checked out nightwear on white company

hellymelly · 11/11/2013 22:43

Yes, White Co was the first place I looked, but they are all short, nothing long with sleeves. I like the silky viscose jersey that they do, I wish they would make something longer. Who are all these women who want sleeves but then have their legs out? Are they not cold making coffee of a morning or lounging on the sofa at night?

laska42 how does the sizing work on the silk nightshirts? They look very roomy, do you order your normal dress size?

If you sleep with your legs straight then you might feel cold- but most people don't sleep like that!

I wear a long dressing gown in the mornings which does the trick.

Have you worn a full length night before? IME no matter how long they are they always ruck up in bed and don't stay round your ankles.

I don't get cold legs in bed but I do feel cold if my shoulders are bare which is why I like sleeves when it's really cold- or, just buy a duvet with a higher tog!

womma · 12/11/2013 21:36

I love this one, it looks like something from Little House on the Prairie, and gorgeously cosy

hellymelly · 12/11/2013 22:25

womma I like that too- the red is calling out for a log cabin and hot chocolate! Loopy I do often sleep on my back with my legs straight out, but its more that I like to potter about in my nightie in the morning or last thing, and I hate to have my legs out. I have always worn long ones, or pyjamas but it seems harder to get the longer ones now. I have a 13 tog goosedown duvet, but I have an underactive thyroid and it means if I get chilled it takes me a really long time to warm up, so I like to stay warm. I can't fall asleep if I have got cold, I just lie there shivery and unhappy, between two warm little girls, while dH who is always lovely and warm, is shoved to the other side of dd1! I sometimes wear socks, that helps.

issynoho · 13/11/2013 10:27

Long, short-sleeved but cheap

Lots of silk-cotton at reasonable-ish prices Check out the duck down bed jacket - I defy you to be cold in that!

Keeping up the Little House on the Praire theme

hellymelly · 13/11/2013 11:50

blimey, I am actually tempted by that bed jacket-is that sad? My friends used to call me Granny when I was in my 20s, due to my love of wincyette, crochet blankets, tea pots etc. Although it has lost its allure now that I am 49 and thus old enough to actually be a Granny, and so perversly too old and also too young to keep on wearing a wincyette nightie! I have a lovely marabou 30's bed jacket, but keep it for special occasions.

Well worth it if you feel the cold helly!

SwishYouToASwazzle · 13/11/2013 18:17

How about trousers with a matching cami and dressing gown, all in silk or satin? That's what I wear, from Next or M&S.

Iaintdunnuffink · 13/11/2013 19:23

Could you get a short one but then chuck on some leggings in the morning. With a fluffy jumper or cosey cardio if it's cold.

Iaintdunnuffink · 13/11/2013 19:29

Something like this would be fine with leggings or pj bottoms under.
