Aveda Shampoo, Best Shampoo Ever.

I live in a very hard water area and find all shampoos much of a much-ness tbh. I've used cheap and expensive and never find the pricy ones much better than mid range.

But but but - I am using Aveda clove and it is absolutely gorgeous and is making my dark flyaway hair look and feel totally totally lovely.

Just had to share. Are their other shampoos as good?

OP posts:
ElizabethBathory · 24/10/2013 15:30

I would guess if you want to keep your highlights bright and non-brassy, the blue malva one would be good for you jumper. Or if you want to tone them down you could try the clove one? I used black malva to hide my highlights because they were hideous on me (looked like grey stripes Hmm)

ihatethecold · 24/10/2013 15:38

Which shampoo would you recommend for long black/brown hair.
I'm getting a little grey coming through.
I tried the smooth infusion one and didn't like it.

I usually use matrix biolage shampoo.

Thanks

ElizabethBathory · 24/10/2013 15:55

Ihatethecold use the black malva if you want darker, cooler tones in your hair, or the clove if you want warmer, richer tones. Not sure what it would do to greys though.

holmessweetholmes · 24/10/2013 16:05

Jumperoo - I just looked on the aveda website and it said the clove one is good for brown or honey blonde. I'm going to try it, as the OP says it's so good - my hair is dark blonde/light brown.

MolotovCocktail · 24/10/2013 17:40

Thanks riders and smug x

jumperooo · 24/10/2013 17:45

Thanks all!

LondonNinja · 24/10/2013 18:11

What will the effect be on greys? I've bought some conditioner (red tone) and am a bit worried! Will return it if it's going to look silly!

ihatethecold · 24/10/2013 19:45

Thanks elizabethbathory.
I only have a few greys so far. Booo!
I will look into both of those you recommended.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 24/10/2013 20:08

I love the chamomile (though I'm a brunette) because it smells like sherbert Smile

Shampure 1 Litre lasts DH and I a year too.

LeoandBoosmum · 24/10/2013 20:58

I tried Shampure - smelt great but not so good for my blonde, baby-fine hair... Does the clove one smell really strong, OP? I could be tempted to try it! :) In Debenhams' locally here, the Aveda counter has small bottles you can buy of almost everything. Works out dearer per ml obviously but gives you the chance to try anything you're interested in first. You get about 3-4 washes depending on hair length (they're about 30ml)
I have never forgiven Aveda for DC'ing these:

(see the reviews: it was in a little pot and it was amazing, dead light but great pigment and lasting power without 'setting' into a powdery, obvious mess! Wish they'd re-release it...The one they do now in a tube is poo!
www.makeupalley.com/product/showreview.asp/ItemId=7213/Conceal-+-Protect-[DISCONTINUED]/Aveda/Concealers

This DC'd mascara was the dog's ball too!
www.totalbeauty.com/reviews/product/6115151/aveda-mascara-plus-rose

Now they have a rubbish, really wet one, called Mosscara that doesn't hold a curl and makes your lashes look shorter than before!

I hate companies who replace great stuff with rubbish! Why can't they leave well alone... Hissy fit over and sorry for hijacking your shampoo thread, OP Grin

Whereisegg · 24/10/2013 21:14

Do they have one for a flaky scalp?
Not dandruff, just dry and flaky Hmm

LeoandBoosmum · 24/10/2013 21:18

Whereisegg

Yep, with reviews so you can have a read:

Thanks Leo!

LeoandBoosmum · 25/10/2013 17:20

You're welcome :) Look out for the mini sizes too!

easypeeler · 25/10/2013 18:46

I picked up the colour conserve today. Bought the shampoo and was thinking of using the black malva conditioner but the SA said the colour conserve works better with shampoo and conditioner together and t maybe use the black malva as a hair mask.

Would that be a good idea? Daren't commit to the blackmalva shampoo and conditioner a they are huge sizes.

The idea is that the colour conserve stops my hair fading as it's dyed (dark brown - trying to keep the gold/warm tone out as I'm a HoC Winter) and the black malva cools down the tone.

Thoughts anyone?

josette · 25/10/2013 19:02

I have seen the Aveda adverts for volume boost shampoo. Has anyone used that and was it any good? I have very fine, thin mousey brown/ dark blonde hair: I would be very interested in trying it.

umiaisha · 26/10/2013 21:14

Bought the smooth infusion shampoo and conditioner today - can't wait to try it!.
Lovely chap in H of Fraser said that there is a 14 day money back guarantee on it, which is very reassuring for those (like me!) who are in two minds over whether to spend that sort of money on it.

Bearleigh · 27/10/2013 06:20

I too love Aveda shampoos, and their damage remedy conditioner has really worked a treat on my fine and breakable hair: it has given it so much more strength that my fringe no longer breaks. My children use my Aveda too, but I get a dispenser from Muji that when you mix the shampoo with water froths it up, so you only use a tiny amount of actual shampoo. The kids can be profligate without using a lot of expensive product...

umiaisha · 27/10/2013 18:25

Tried it this morning - wow! Will not be needing the 14 day money back guarantee..

GeekInThePink · 28/10/2013 13:14

Can I pop in a salon and ask which one would be best for my strange post pregnancy hair?
I have fine brown frizzy hair which just hangs...but my post pregnancy wispy re growth is tight curls argh! I look ridiculous!

eurocommuter · 31/10/2013 04:54

I love aveda. I use their damage remedy or dry remedy. DH uses shampure. The children use be curly or smooth infusion. I buy the large bottles and they last us at least a year. Which I think works out cheaper.
I also like he fact that you can try product and rake hem back if they don't work out.
Bearleigh good idea about the dispenser for the children. I will definitely get one.

LostMarbles99 · 31/10/2013 07:53

Do you have to use the scalp benefits for a few washes or does it work instantly?

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 31/10/2013 08:43

can anyone look at the ingredients for me on one for dark hair and tell me if it has sodium chloride in it please?

GeekInThePink · 31/10/2013 18:29

Which is good for dark dry hair with dry scalp?
I feel an idiot going in there :(

HomerPigeon · 01/11/2013 06:35

I love Aveda shampoos but a few months ago realised I couldn't justify the cost. I have quite thick hair and even buying the bigger bottles I would get through about 3 bottles a year. Now I am using the Organix shampoos which I get from Boots - still not cheap but about a third of the price of Aveda. My hair looks exactly the same and still smells lovely - more of a coconutty smell than the essential oil smell of Aveda stuff.
