Please help me wash my face!

I have really sensitive skin everywhere but especially on my face. I went and bought Simple stuff the other day in the hope that I wouldn't emerge from the shower looking like a well schelpt arse but no luck. This is how my skin looked after using the Simple facewash. The only way it doesn't happen is when I just use water but then my face doesn't look/feel clean.

Please tell me someone has found a solution for this?!

Please help me wash my face!

So that didn't work. Or did it? Useless phone.

Ah, it did :)

It has worked :) I have sensitive skin (though not as much as yours as I'm ok with Simple) but Lush's Aqua Marina is lovely - might be worth a try - they'll probably let you have a tiny tester pot if you explain the problem.

ouryve · 02/10/2013 16:38

Clinique comforting cleanser. Not cheap, but lasts ages and lovely and gentle. I have sensitive combination skin and it deals with all its problems nicely without leaving me red faced and sore.

DaleyBump · 02/10/2013 16:39

I'll definitely ask them for a tester, thank you :)

Oh wow, that'd not cheap is it? I'll give it a go though, I'm pretty desperate now Grin

I use a neutrogena body wash which contains no soap, nasty chemicals etc. it works for the whole family, big, hairy smelly ones and all Wink

QueenBoudicea · 02/10/2013 16:43

Try la roche posay. V good for sensitive skin.
They sell it in boots

DaleyBump · 02/10/2013 16:50

Is the Neutrogena one not like like Simple though? My mum has similar skin to me and she tried the La Roche one and she really reacted with it, I think I'll avoid that one. Thanks though :)

Have you had a look at La Roche Posay?

I have sensitive skin and find their products very good.

I use the Physiological Micellar Solution for cleansing and Hydreane moisturiser. I do prefer to wash my face but when it flares up washing seems to make it worse. Cleansing with the Micellar solution is a good alternative.

I'm also using the Physiological Ultra fine scrub occasionally and it is the gentlest one I have used.

peachesandpickles · 02/10/2013 16:54

sorry - just saw the post about La Roche Posay. There are loads of products in several different ranges though and they are good at giving out samples. You might find something suitable.

My dd uses La Roche Posay for her eczema and they are great - better than lots of things we were prescribed.

Vibbe · 02/10/2013 16:59

I personally find that micellar water isn't enough to clean off makeup and all that.

I really like balm cleanser - I'm using the Clinique one, but there are cheaper and more expensive alternatives. I've heard good things about the Botanics one from Boots.

Foaming products can cause more irritation as they tend to dry the skin out.

cupcake78 · 02/10/2013 17:02

You can spend a fortune if you want to. I used to but now that's not possible.

Oil! I use olive oil or coconut oil to remove makeup then wash it off with water.

I have dry sensitive skin and its working really well for me. I don't think I will ever go back tbh.

Badvoc · 02/10/2013 17:06

Try fresh farmacy from lush.
Fab stuff.

ebaymad · 02/10/2013 17:11

You poor thing!

Maybe go as natural as possible. The OCM method worked well for me when i had dry skin.

callamia · 02/10/2013 17:15

Avene's cold cream gel is great for me.
I also made my own cold cream for a while, it's pretty straightforward.

ClaudetteWyms · 02/10/2013 17:18

Yes oil to wash make up off - I use olive oil as well. Sensitive skin has really calmed down. Just splash with warm water in the mornings. Saves a fortune on products and my skin is thanking me for it.

feelinlucky · 02/10/2013 18:36

Olive oil and a hot cloth placed over your face. Just use run of the mill olive oil. Massage it into the skin then place a really hot face cloth on top, leave it for as long as you like then repeat with hot cloth until all the oil is off. Your skin looks and feels amazing afterwards.

BetsyBell · 02/10/2013 20:08

I find cold cream a bit sting-y on my face but I love using oil. Olive oil or almond oil is lovely. I was thinking about why that lush Aqua Marina stuff was nice and I wondered if a going over with calamine lotion, hot flannel and then oil would give that lovely squeaky-clean feeling without the redness/soreness. Might be worth a go and dead cheap.

ShreddedHoops · 02/10/2013 20:44

Avene gel cleanser is as mild as water, or Dermalogica Ultracalming. They are both gel consistencies which you massage into dry skin, then splash water on to rinse off. If you want to use water on your face then I'd recommend either of these as the mildest addition to water which will actually get your face clean.

Furball · 02/10/2013 21:29

I would read any ingredients for Sodium Laureth Sulfate - or SLS - it's a really harsh drying chemical used in industry to strip oils. It is in an awful lot of beauty products/shampoos etc

Furball · 02/10/2013 21:32

Read all ingredients, it's quite often snuck into allsorts of things you wouldn't imagine. like simple, johnsons no more tears etc etc. - literally most of the high street brands.....

DaleyBump · 02/10/2013 21:40

Thanks for all the tips! Does oil not make you look all greasy? I didn't know that Furball, I'll keep an eye out :) thank you :)

Try Liz Earle cleanse and polish, its fab, I suffer with psoriasis (or did) but have been completely clear since I have started using it, I haven't had to use any steroid creams at all
