Waterfall cardi. Very confused. Y or N?

I thought these were finished. But have been looking for a navy cashmere cardi. Hush, and The White Company are full of waterfall cardis. Everywhere. Are they a style no no?

Yes they're a style no no for anyone under 50...

Orangeanddemons · 28/09/2013 12:42

But there's variations. Some are short, some just have bits of waterfall. Some are fitted and waterfall. Some are square. Really confused. I want a navy cocoon one, but can't find one anywhere

Always no.

They don't flatter anybody, ever.

Trills · 28/09/2013 12:44

If you think it looks nice, go for it. "Waterfall" is a vague term and there are cardigans that fall within its borders that are perfectly nice items.

Your problem seems to be more I can't find the cardigan that I want than I don't know if I'm allowed this cardigan according to THE RULES :)

dexter73 · 28/09/2013 12:45

I think some waterfall cardis are nice and some aren't. I don't think you can put a blanket ban on them. Also what happens when you are 50 to make them ok to wear then? Is it just because if you are 50 you are old and are therefore no longer allowed to be interested in fashion?

ilovethewinter · 28/09/2013 12:46

I have one in light pink, and it's sort of floaty, more like a wrap and I find it useful if I'm wearing a strappy top on an evening out or similar.I think it really depends on the style as to whether it's stylish or not.

VestaCurry · 28/09/2013 12:48

No if your norks are above a B cup. There are some new designs which are v short (think I saw them on ASOS) and they looked great on the age 17 models. On the whole though, they are instantly ageing.

HappyGirlNow · 28/09/2013 12:51

No I don't think that at all Dexter I just think they tend to be a slightly older ladies fashion that's all.. But lots of people have rightly said that there are variations on the theme and I concede some are a bit 'younger'..

I'm not a particularly young thing myself btw, judging by your username we're likely the same age Grin

VestaCurry · 28/09/2013 12:53

Actually, thinking about it, a friend (age 45) has a short one, and it looks great but it doesn't have swathes of waterfalling in it. She is a size 10, 5ft 8, long and lean ( compared to my respectable size 14, inch shorter than her but annoyingly large bosoms that dictate every bloody thing I buy).

dexter73 · 28/09/2013 12:55

Ok I'll let you off then!

PiratePanda · 28/09/2013 12:55

I bought one in a fit of madness because it was in exactly the colour I was lookingfor, and I soon realised that noone with an hourglass shape should ever wear one; it's shapeless and makes me look like a bag lady :(

LaurieFairyCake · 28/09/2013 12:57

Always yes for me even at 41 with size 34J cups.

They look fine on me and I like the warmth - when I'm sitting down they fold over the front of my lap/knees and keep me warm.

SacreBlue · 28/09/2013 13:09

Ditto pirate and Laurie for warmth tho mine was a present, it gets worn in the house only.

I am a great advocate of trying things on before buying so you know what you are getting into literally

MissStrawberry · 28/09/2013 13:13

I seem to have four of the damn things, all slightly different though all from the same shop. I bought them because I thought they would be useful. They just about keep me warm and that is about it.

I am under 50.
Have GG/H boobs.

I am clearly not at all fashionable.

Sad
BetsyBidwell · 28/09/2013 13:14

i like long ones but NON ruffled

ThePuffyShirt · 28/09/2013 13:21

Someone on here once likened them to a vulva and I always think if that whenever I see one.

BetsyBidwell · 28/09/2013 13:29

VestaCurry · 28/09/2013 13:34

Harrumph, whenever I try on anything that is remotely waterfall stylie, my norks look like they're MMM cups and because the cardigan 'falls' straight down from them I look 5 years pregnant from a side view.

Trills · 28/09/2013 13:40

I am a big fan of long drapey cardigans that don't do up.

Are they waterfall? Some would say they are.

Do I care? Nope.

noddyholder · 28/09/2013 13:59

hideous Long normal cardigans can look lovely The vulva thing is an analogy which I will be stealing to deter any RL friends who are considering these horrors.Very ageing they say middle aged like crinkly shirts and those weird scrunchy scarves

BigBoobiedBertha · 28/09/2013 14:17

Trills - waterfall is where they have an uneven hemline imo. Long and drapey isn't waterfall.

Disclaimer: I don't often venture onto S & B, so I may be wrong.

noddyholder · 28/09/2013 14:24

Yes I think waterfall is frilly and asymetric

noddyholder · 28/09/2013 14:27

not waterfall i think

noddyholder · 28/09/2013 14:32

I give you the coatigan
