I thought these were finished. But have been looking for a navy cashmere cardi. Hush, and The White Company are full of waterfall cardis. Everywhere. Are they a style no no?

I have one of these monstrosities and it makes me look and feel fat arsed.

I am a fan of long slouchy cardigans, but just not with an asymmetric hem.

LeGavrOrf · 28/09/2013 14:54

That's nice Holly, think because it is a jacket and not a cardigan.

LeGavrOrf · 28/09/2013 14:56

This is the like my monstrosity www.amazon.co.uk/New-Mood-Womens-waterfall-cardigan/dp/B008MTMI0G/ref=pd_sim_ap_7

I use it as a dressing gown sometimes when the other dressing gowns are in the wash

CiderwithBuda · 28/09/2013 14:57

Ooh noddy you have made me want the coatigan.

I like some 'waterfall' type cardigans. But I'm almost 50 so seems like I'm allowed!

hollyangel · 28/09/2013 14:59

Yes, I think that might be the key with waterfall, it's good shape for an unstructured jacket. I also love all the kimono jackets that were around this summer too.

Can I ask a silly question? How do I post a hyperlink in a word? Highlighted in blue?

Trills · 28/09/2013 14:59

Ah but there is a spectrum of "asymmetric" or "frilly".

This calls itself waterfall but barely qualifies

This has a few frills

This is very bulky at the front

Tassels, WTF?

Trills · 28/09/2013 15:01

Instructions on how to do links are below - we can't demonstrate without it turning into a link

Open double square brackets, put the link, put a space, write the word you want, close double square brackets.

hollyangel · 28/09/2013 15:07

Thanks Trills.

Cardigans must pass the DD1 "Do I look like a bird test", if the answers Yes, Don't Buy It!

The test is very simple put on cardigan and jump around like a demented chicken, if the cardigan has lots of stupid flappy bits that come to the wrong place on your hips, you will indeed look like a bird and know just how stupid you are going to look on a windy day when you are late for school.

Trills · 28/09/2013 15:35

Correct with the link and the word, but that's a curly braacket.
[ that's a square bracket.
And you need two of them [[

Ujjayi · 28/09/2013 15:52

The coatigan that Noddyholder linked to is very similar to one I own but which is hip length. The key to combating frumpiness is to style it right:

Left flapping in the breeze = frumpsville & arse widening

Belted and or pinned to drape in a Viv Westwood stylee = v good

They should also NEVER be worn with bootleg jeans.

Orangeanddemons · 28/09/2013 15:55

Well ok, point taken. Now find me a cheap cashmere navy cocoon cardi.

I loathe and despise NEXT, but sent off for their cashmere navy waterfall cardi. It's really thick and soft.....but it is a waterfall, and I do hate Next, so it's going back.

OP posts:
Ujjayi · 28/09/2013 15:57

This
And This type of waterfall cardis are the vulva-esque style and should be avoided at all costs Wink

Orangeanddemons · 28/09/2013 16:02

God I wouldn't be seen dead in either of those

OP posts:
Primadonnagirl · 28/09/2013 16:04

The problem with waterfalls is that the wearers are constantly..constantly pulling them over their boobs in that Les Dawson woman gossiping over the fence manner which makes them deeply unattractive in my opinion

noddyholder · 28/09/2013 16:05

The coatigan was supposed to be a joke I don't own it nor would I!

NoComet · 28/09/2013 16:06

Ujjayi that second link is truly amazingly awful. I don't know about birds more jellyfish

Dilidali · 28/09/2013 16:13

noddy, don't care what that makes me but the two you've linked are right up my street. Thank you.

Earthymama · 28/09/2013 16:28

I bought one back in the day, when they first became fashionable, to go to an Autumn wedding.
It's grey wool and, sin of sins, is Per Una!!SmileI thought it would be useful on days when a coat would be too warm.

I never wear it now as the front dangly bits hang below my raincoat if we have a shower, which here in Wales is quite often.

I cannot stand to see odd bits of garments drooping like that.
(And truth is, I am a grandmother and over 50 and feel the sneers of all Mumsnettters directed at me!!)

MissDD1971 · 28/09/2013 16:33

I had 2 ribbed cheapie M&S ones that I binned.

Then a soft merino fluffy grey next one that's passable.

H&M are doing waterfall shorty fitted cardio.

NoComet · 28/09/2013 16:51

Grin no top may extend below your coat if you live in Wales.

Canthaveitall · 28/09/2013 17:37

No

MissStrawberry · 28/09/2013 19:33

See, now I am not sure if mine are waterfall cardigans now.

Earthymama · 28/09/2013 19:36

StarBall, I am glad you know the Rules, But!

Chottie · 28/09/2013 20:38

Happygirl please note that waterfall cardigans are so a no-no for those over 50! speaks from personal experience :)
