Does anyone drink Turmeric?

SundaySimmons · 22/09/2013 08:55

I have read lots of great things about drinking turmeric, how great it is for the skin.

I have read about taking a pinch if it in a glass of water three times a day or in a glass of warm milk.

It sounds revolting!

Anyone drink it or try it?

Off to work now, will bump later if no replies!!!

I put it on my face as well and I turned yellow for weeks!

Grin

I've seen what it does to tupperware!

That BBC programme "Trust me I'm a Doctor" did a good feature on this. Good results for inflammatory conditions. Nothing about skin though.

In their experiment the supplement (capsules) had no effect, but cooking with it did have an effect. For best results they found it needs to be heated in oil and combined with black pepper. So the Golden Paste is the best way of taking it, you can make this in advance and chuck a teaspoon into anything you cook, or stir the paste (not a pinch of powder) into warm milk.

I've recently bought turmeric tea bags.
It's pretty tasteless, I'm happy to drink it.

ButtonLoon · 18/10/2016 22:37

Yeah, I got lumps in my armipits as a reaction to deoderant starting when I was a teenager, turns out my armpit pores block super easily. These days I get by with Weleda deoderant (alcohol based) or PitRok.

kittytom · 18/10/2016 22:45

No. I put it in soups/curries though.

Sovain · 19/10/2016 00:22

Golden milk sounds lovely

I have some turmeric tea. It's nice enough. Nothing special though.

GummyBunting · 19/10/2016 16:43

I have it in a green smoothie along with cinnamon, mainly for the inflammatory benefits.

danTDM · 19/10/2016 16:50

Yes, I've heard this is good for cancer prevention/gastric problems. I made a lovely sweet potato, lentil and turmeric soup today on the back of this thread... delicious!

Can't I just eat it in food like a normal person? Do I really have to have it in a drink after Yoga and before my organic kale and brown rice?

Hmm
DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 19/10/2016 17:23

I tried the capsules and it gave me really bad heart burn after one dose , since then I've to be really careful with what I eat. So no, I wouldn't touch it again with a barge pole!

My mother seems to put it in everything. Why is drinking it different? And if consume it with wine will it still do the job?

HmmHmmHmmHmmHmmHmmHmmHmmHmmHmmHmmHmm

LynetteScavo · 19/10/2016 17:50

Ah, missed piddleypower's post.

Brilliant! Smile

RockinHippy · 19/10/2016 17:53

Sorry LS from the tone of your post, I thought you were just being goady, not that it was a genuine question - as below & in the video I linked to, it needs to be heated & prepared with other stuff for it to work properly

LynetteScavo · 19/10/2016 18:13

I was taking the piss a bit with the organic kale and brown rice, as everybody else seemed so wholesomely organised, and I'm knocking back a glass of Wine. It's not that I don't like brown rice and kale, it's just that they're not part of my routine.

I'm genuinely glad I don't have to drink the stuff in milk!

QueenJuggler · 19/10/2016 19:01

OP, you might have a Staph A infection, ask the doctor to test you for it. That sounds exactly like what I had.

This is the 2nd Staph thread I've posted on in a few days - how odd.

RockinHippy · 19/10/2016 19:02

Makes more sense now - it wasn't quite Wine O'Clock here yet when you posted Grinbut guessing you are not UK or an alky

Kale is the spawn of the devilEnvy so I'm not that "organised" & I agree, I think Turmeric would be foul in cows milk, I think thats why they do it with nut "milk" instead - I thought even that would be disgusting, but DD was very ill, nothing else helped & desperation means you try anything. I had to drink it to show her it was okay & was shocked it actually tasted quite nice & better still, it worked for her - its worked for a cousin of mine with RA too

user1466690252 · 19/10/2016 19:07

The pp who used it for weightloss, how did you do it? In milk did you say? I cook with it alot and cayenne but I would like to try the drink aswell

LynetteScavo · 19/10/2016 19:12

I am in the U.K. Blush

Happyhippy45 · 19/10/2016 19:45

I buy the root from Asian grocers too and chop it up and make tea with it. (Add some ginger root too. It's good for loads of things. Mostly good for inflammation conditions.......pretty nice in a curry too.

RockinHippy · 19/10/2016 19:51

Sorry Blush

CauliflowerBalti · 19/10/2016 20:04

Saw a turmeric drinks bar in New York last week.

It's A Thing.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 19/10/2016 20:10

Never heard of Golden Milk until this thread. Just made it for myself and DS. It's going to be a thing in our house now Grin. Lovely.

Konyaa · 19/10/2016 20:13

bowel cancer could also be less in India owing to the rarity if red meat. It's a vastly Hindu country and Hindus workshop the cow and killing a cow is illegal, therefore no beef. Pork is unclean for the significant minority of Muslims, and pork is also hardly available. Many states are religiously vegetarian.

The only red meat really mainstream is mutton and that's a massive treat really. There is no culture of bacon ham sausages pork pies etc surrounding people. So we can't really link turmeric to it quite so easily...
