Clarks National Sugar Boots - thoughts?

northernlurker · 21/09/2013 12:24

So I've seen these linked on a number of threads and liked them. Got them today in brown - which is a bit of a departure for me as I usually go for black. What do people think about brown in general? Will it go with plenty of things? Does anybody have these boots? Do you find them comfy? HAve I made an error?

Btw - if you happen to have wide feet and rather plump calves these boots come in a wide fitting and I could zip them up. Hurrah Grin

I've been looking at these boots too! I have wide feet and calves and was wondering how wide they are.

I think they are lovely boots although I've only seen them online. I'm also considering the grey colour as I need something to go with navy/purple.

What colours and styles do you usually wear?

boodles · 21/09/2013 12:38

In boots I prefer brown and grey over black. I am not a huge fan of black boots, maybe because I often wear black trousers.

I have, what looks like to me, last years version, Majorca villa, in grey and I love them. I tried the sugar ones on in clarks the other day, they seemed wider on the calf though.

northernlurker · 21/09/2013 12:39

I wear lots of different colours really. Quite a lot of black leggings and tunics. Mostly warm coloiurs. Practically no green. I've got some navy/purple things too but I already have some purple boots. Therefore I went for brown rather than black as black seem so 'safe' - but now I wonder if that was a mistake

I think brown looks just as good, if not better, than black boots even where black features in your outfit. It stops it looking too match-matchy and gives a more relaxed look. I have a particular dislike of black boots with jeans - they just look wrong to me.

Northern I am ignoring the wibble

Length - these look not knee hi, how far up calf?

Brown is fine!

peachesandpickles · 21/09/2013 12:51

I agree Ujjayi - I dislike black footwear with jeans.

I don't think those boots come in black OP. Are there black boots you are considering?

lborolass · 21/09/2013 12:56

I like those boots but wouldn't know how to wear them - do you wear them over trousers or underneath? And would you wear them with a dress/skirt?

northernlurker · 21/09/2013 13:08

Peaches - I know you can't see black on that link but they had them in the shop Hmm Maybe they're called something slightly different.

Not knee length no. They come about mid calf. Perfect height for me actually as most knee highs are too narrow for my calves.

I got the black but seriously considering the brown too. They are super comfy!

northernlurker · 21/09/2013 13:41

I tried them on in the week and was surprised that they actually fitted my huge calfs (calves?) with a bit of room to spare. I wasn't sure about them though as I was wearing jeans at the time and would need to see them with other outfits. I may venture back and get them with a view to returning them if they look ridiculous. I think they had black ones in our tiny store too.

YoureAllABunchOfBastards · 21/09/2013 13:50

Why did I click the damn link? I Neeeeeeeed them.

northernlurker · 21/09/2013 13:57

Grin I think you should be able to get 20% off till the 29th....I had a voucher from buying school shoes but I think there are codes around too........

Roshbegosh · 21/09/2013 13:57

Don't forget the 20% discount on here if you spend over £60. I bought these in the wide fit and they're great for my broad feet and huge calves. By the way, if you have that problem have you seen the Marisota jeans for curvy calf - fab.

northernlurker · 21/09/2013 13:57

Mejon - I know. I was surprised too!

I too only ever buy brown, never black. Black is far too harsh on me. I wear brown with all sorts of colours, jeans etc. I do only wear brown tihts though (usually falke).

AnneUulmelmahay · 21/09/2013 14:15

Oooh twenty per cent off you say.....how much would them boots be.

Right, boots are nigh on 90. Ten percent is £9, yes, so twenty percent is £18? Crappy maths. So boots would be £72 avec discount?

AnneUulmelmahay · 21/09/2013 14:16

I m fucking having them. Hah, take that, purse.

helebear · 21/09/2013 14:25

They did very similar ones a couple of years ago without the straps in grey suede, same heel etc and I've worn them to death with skinny jeans & skirts/dresses with black opaques. I pushed my down a lot so they're quite slouchy. Am torn between getting this years version or branching out into something different.

RiojaLover75 · 21/09/2013 14:25

Rosh which are the Marista jeans you speak of Grin

northernlurker · 21/09/2013 14:42

Nice work Anne Grin I said the same as I was buying some heels too to wear to a christening next week Grin

I brought those too. The brown is much more neutral than black. I have a bit of a boot fetish this winter but in my defence I did need to replace several pairs of duo boots that had fallen apart after years of loyal usage.

There are another pair of ankle boots I like in clarks too with a wrap around strap.

heidihole · 21/09/2013 16:19

How would one go about getting this 20% discount? If...theoretically you understand...one was to open ones wallet and make a purchase?

Helspopje · 21/09/2013 16:23

I have them - fab. I also have national spice in black - looks brilliant irl.
They're both 'plus' so more cusioned/comfy than most boots.

I think they'll be fab for buggy pushing/school run..

In case anyone is in the market to buy - 20% off code is 'BOOM
