Monsoon nightmare

MissDD1971 · 14/09/2013 17:34

Got £30 GC for Monsoon recently.

Was in there having met my mum for shopping/afternoon tea.

Is it me or dear god are their designers blind right now?!

Was in Croydon branch (hell hole on earth otherwise known as Whitgift Centre - Westfield can't come too soon) so limited selection.

And the prices! £55 for a jumper with lace. Eeek!

Anyone seen anything decent there?

I have a £50 voucher for Monsoon that dates back to my birthday in April. I despair of ever finding anything worth spending it on.

WipsGlitter · 14/09/2013 18:15

I think it's really expensive for what it is. I was looking the other day, nice casual shirt £55!!

FauxFox · 14/09/2013 18:15

Can't you spend the vouchers in Accessorise? Gorgeous scarves and gloves, bags, undies, jewellery - lovely things!

thenightsky · 14/09/2013 18:53

yeah... reckon Accessorise will be getting my voucher.

notyummy · 14/09/2013 19:01

It is awful. I did used to buy the occasional thing in there but not for years now. Bad florals and generally dowdy and oversized. Can't believe it is still in business tbh.

DeathByTray · 14/09/2013 19:03

I usually wait for the sale but agree that the clothes have gone downhill recently.

marleebrodie · 14/09/2013 20:24

Same here ...had a15% off thing for last week.

I too eyed the lace/wool jumper ...£55....yikes.

Used to love it called it Monswoon....nothing for me now.

bunnymother · 14/09/2013 20:30

They have some cute woodland animal jumpers for children. Grasping at straws here...

Sonotkylie · 14/09/2013 20:37

Use it for buying Christmas present scarves, gloves etc and then spend £30 somewhere else?

Tweet2tweet · 14/09/2013 20:44

Sometimes the sleepwear is okay..... Perhaps get some nice pyjamas or a nightie?

MrsCampbellBlack · 14/09/2013 20:53

I bought my 4 year old DD some very sweet tweed shorts last week and a nice cream cardigan.

I've never bought myself anything there ever though.

And the little boys stuff looked nice - lots of nice grey tweedy stuff if you like a traditional look.

Agnesmum · 14/09/2013 20:57

Went in there today, couldn't believe how awful the clothes were and the shop assistant was very pushy.

Oldraver · 14/09/2013 22:42

I usually love their clothes but have gone off them recently

Also, I signed up for their email thingy which I dont usually mind getting details of sales and vouchers off etc....but they email me about 10 times a week and are coming close to being blocked

CointreauVersial · 14/09/2013 23:05

Wait for the sales; they have some reasonable basics (cardis etc). Or stock up in Accessorise.

I agree that the clothes are hit and miss; I've been in two or three times this year and not seen anything I even want to try on.

plentyofsoap · 14/09/2013 23:05

I have stopped going in now, but their shoes and boots might be worth a look perhaps? They were nice a couple if years ago....

Partridge · 14/09/2013 23:28

They have really nice quilted jackets in at the moment. I think Yasmin le Bon is floating round in the in the campaign. here is a picture from their look book.

Agree that the styling on their website is appalling and makes it look like nothing is nice.

Norfolknway · 14/09/2013 23:42

I bought my2 year old a flower girl dress from there...that was very cute.

Oh, pyjamas in the Jan sales - they were nice - not very exciting though Confused

darksideofthemooncup · 14/09/2013 23:53

Yep it's all hideous. I'm trying to find a dress for a wedding, I am 5'9'' and a size 16 all I want is a dress that will fall to just below my knees but can I find one? no I cannot. WHY do designers assume that we all want to show off our knees? I really don't want to look like a fat lampshade :(

Rooners · 15/09/2013 08:00

They used to be lovely clothes, until about 5 years ago when it all went to shit.

I don't know why - did it get taken over by someone with zero taste? I can't even go in there now, I just want to stare at stuff and go WTF? out loud and that would be rude.

It was my go-to shop for years (well, the outlet was anyway)

FamiliesShareGerms · 15/09/2013 08:24

Funnily enough, I was going to start a thread on how impressed I was at their dresses in the £60-80 price range...

I went in yesterday to look for something for a winter wedding, and was pleasantly surprised at what they had. Certainly tons better than the stuff next door in M&S at similar prices.

I agree there is some real tat in there too, though, and they have really gone off the boil in recent years.

LaTrucha · 15/09/2013 09:03

I just bought this for work. It's not amazing but I like it.

suntodayplease · 15/09/2013 09:14

Glad I'm not the only one who is hacked off with the constant emails. It's impossible to unsubscribe via your phone or iPad, drives me mad!

HessianWeave · 15/09/2013 09:16

Agree about Monsoon having gone seriously down the drain since about the mid 2000's years. I used to buy a lot there, and still have a couple of tops that I probably bought ca. 2005. Great quality, still wearable.
Now it's a lot of tat. I do see the odd item that I like but then I look at the price tag and decide not.

ExcuseTypos · 15/09/2013 09:23

Agree that Monsoon is now longer what it was. I have several pieces of knitwear and dresses that I bought over 5 years ago, which are still going strong.

It now all reminds me of Per Una.
