I'm looking for a warm coat to see my 2 yo DD through the winter. We'll be outside alot so hoping to find something that is at least shower resistant if not waterproof. I've been looking online but nothing fits the bill. Am trying to get something for £40 or less, I don't mind spending a little more since she'll be in it every day - just want it to be warm and I'm not convinced about the children's coats I've seen so far.

I have seen this one from uniqlo but not sure how warm it would be as it's 100% polyester.

Any suggestions?

£40 is a good budget. Try Joules and Boden sale too.
Last year Dd had a super cheap one from sainsburys boys dept which washed and tumbled really well.
This year I got longer waterproof fleece lined ones for both her and ds in cool prints from TK maxx for around £16 (from £30)

Suddengeekgirl · 11/09/2013 07:23

I got both dc ski jackets from H&M lat year. Dds will be big enough to do another winter as it was HUGE last year! Blush

They're warm and waterproof and were £30. I haven't washed them yet so that may knacker the waterproofing but if so I'm going to try that re-waterproofing spray I've heard of.

I also liked that there were a range of colours and very gender neutral.

Will see if I can find a link to this years. :)

WhispersOfWickedness · 11/09/2013 07:24

H&M? I just get soft shell jackets from there and layer underneath but they do thicker ones as well for about £30. Brilliant quality for the money, you'd be looking at £40-50 for similar in some of the other Scandinavian brands.

CakeInMyFace · 11/09/2013 07:26

I never would have thought of H&M - thanks for the suggestions. I'll have a look online and see if I can find them, but if anyone can send a link that would be fab.

Showerproof floral parka

SundaySimmons · 11/09/2013 07:27

Vertbaudet used to come up small so,bear that in mind.

resipsa · 11/09/2013 07:28

The M+S khaki parka is good. £26. Hood. Padded. Showerproof. Looks cosy and cute,

CakeInMyFace · 11/09/2013 08:30

Thanks again for the suggestions. Like the look of the H&M one and the Vertbaudet one too.

Also like the look of the boden one - anyone have any codes?

OP posts:
TwelveLeggedWalk · 11/09/2013 10:08

Oh, and when you wash waterproof jackets do it in non-bio with no fabric conditioner, and that should help prolong its waterproofness.

Lonelynessie · 11/09/2013 11:10

Boden have 20% off until tomorrow, I think it applies automatically so no code needed :)

Dontletthemgetyoudown · 11/09/2013 11:37

dd's love the boden fleece lined coats. they are light, showerproof and yet still warm enough with hat gloves and scarf on snow days.

I just brought them new ones for this year. www.boden.co.uk/en-GB/Girls-1H-12yrs-Coats-Jackets/35093/Girls-1H-12yrs-Fleece-Lined-Anorak.html

I also really like the joules waterproof coats, fun prints, properly waterproof with sealed seams etc www.joules.com/Girls/Jackets-Coats/Jnr-Kirstie/Girls-Hooded-Rain-Coat/Ruby-Ducks?id=P_JNRKIRSTIE|RUBYDKS (I think there is a 15% code doing the rounds which would bring it into budget)

I was going to suggest lands nd but it appears they don't do a small enough size.
just be aware if you order online from h&m the minimum usual delivery time is around 2 weeks.

Dontletthemgetyoudown · 11/09/2013 11:43

these gap ones are good too. they look to have slightly changed them this year though and the material not as shiny as last year (dd loved the shiny pink I hated it) we have a bit of a coat/jacket addiction in this house. www.gap.co.uk/browse/product.do?cid=57285&vid=1&pid=000586535002

TK Maxx

MrsOakenshield · 11/09/2013 11:50

we had a Sainsbo's one last year and whilst it was very warm, waterproof and washed well, the hood was tiny. Didn't matter for cold as she always wears a hat, but rubbish if it was raining.

What are the hoods like on the H&M ones?

ThisIsYourSong · 11/09/2013 12:32

Jojo Maman Bebe ones are always great, warm without being bulky and restrictive.

pantsjustpants · 11/09/2013 12:39

Another vote for Vertbaudet, but for this reversible one: www.vertbaudet.co.uk/girl-s-reversible-parka.htm?ProductId=702053190

I bought one for my daughter and it did two winters, and has a done a third and hopefully a fourth for my granddaughter. I think they're very good value and I like the length of them. No gaps!

Whitecat · 11/09/2013 14:13

I bought this for DD. She has had one nearly every year. They are really warm and cosy, waterproof and washable. It is actually much nicer in real life and only £24.
The patterns change each year. Unfortunately they only go up to 7 years which means it's the last time she'll get to wear one.

CruCru · 11/09/2013 16:01

Muddy Puddles have some lovely coats in.

PastaBeeandCheese · 11/09/2013 18:02

Another vote for JoJo. You can get matching gloves that clip on.

suntodayplease · 11/09/2013 20:34

I've recently bought the Joules one linked further up the thread. It's very good quality and genuinely seems to be waterproof. Lovely pattern too, in terms of sizing DD is 2.6 and tall so I ordered age 3, looks like it will last her a long time!

accessorizequeen · 11/09/2013 20:58

I've been trying to find something for dd who is 4.11, Didricksons coats look the business, if you buy from previous years ( Camden, Jarvis, Devon) you should get something warm, padded and very waterproof for under £40. I bought a Devon for my 6yo ds from Viking kids and its lovely! It has extendable arms so will fit him for at least 2 years. I've seen plenty in smaller sizes but nothing for dd yet and can't stump up £70 for new season. She has the fleece lined anorak from Boden and its a great little coat just not waterproof nor warm enough for a Yorkshire winter. IMO anyway. Also, lands end are supposed to be fab quality and regularly do 20% off weekends.

Paintingrainbowskies · 11/09/2013 21:04

I got a Joules one for my 2 year old
