Going braless if you are small of nork...

Toomuchcontact · 21/08/2013 14:25

and don't really need the support of a bra?

I've started doing it recently..not under very sheer clothes but under a lightweight jumper and today with a wrap dress.

The reaction has been unexpected! Two friends who said it was overly provocative and another who said "what will you do in the chiller bit in tesco" Hmm

Male friend who commented on my lack of bra and said its much more out there than having big boobs on show.

Thoughts?

nope Popping, I didnt say nuffink about gravity, are you saying that the theory of gravity has no scientific merit..was Einstein wrong??

mind you I will concede that if a bra is so tight it restricts the movement of your rib cage then yes it would interfere with breathing:o

Of course we wear bra's for aesthetic rather than health reasons, call me a fashion victim but I'd rather not have my nipples round by my knee's...pretty sure that in cultures where women dont wear bra's thats what happens

poppingin1 · 21/08/2013 17:45

Quite right Lazy you didn't say that. My mistake, seems I am digging myself a ditch here Grin

MrsCampbellBlack · 21/08/2013 17:46

Its the nipple issue isn't it? Isn't that why Jennifer Aniston was the most 'popular' friend, am sure I read that she used to cut out the nipple bit on her bras so they were more prominent.

I think if people are commenting on the fact you're bra-less - well, its quite a personal thing to comment on. Personally, it would make me feel uncomfortable especially at work. So, I'd either do a crop top/camisole or bra.

poppingin1 · 21/08/2013 17:50

Nevertheless, there is emerging research into the health risks posed by bras, especially very ill fitting bras.

IMO bras are best avoided just on the basis that none of them are a perfect fit, unless you are willing to pay for custom made lingerie.

Lazysuzanne · 21/08/2013 17:50

just so long as you have the correct style of bra for ditch digging Popping:o

HesterShaw · 21/08/2013 17:51

There's no way I would do it simply because my nips would take someone's eye out.

Lazysuzanne · 21/08/2013 17:54

Ok, okI could take issue with sports bra's the they are often so tight that one cant breath fully!

Are you alluding to something along the lines of the health dangers of tightly laced corsets as worn by women back whenever it was?

Even so I feel you are overstating things....it is possible to get bra's which are comfy and allow for full movement of the rib cage.

SorrelForbes · 21/08/2013 17:59

Nevertheless, there is emerging research into the health risks posed by bras, especially very ill fitting bras. There's the key words "very ill fitting bras".

So many women are wearing the wrong size (thanks M&S et al).

Just for interest really, an article about that study said:

All the women involved in the study were aged between 18 and 35, although the professor was keen to stress that the group were not a representative of the global population of females.

?Rouillon advised certain women not to immediately throw away all their bras in the bin.?It would be of no benefit to a 45-year-old mother to stop wearing a bra,? he warned.

I read a really good response to the study but can't find it now - blast.

perhaps in the future we will do away with all the scaffolding & upholstery and have them held in place by some sort of bosom force field

Skinheadmermaid · 21/08/2013 18:22

I don't because although my boobs are very small i have pierced nipples and they are very, very obvious through clothes. Also one boob is half a size bigger then the other and my bra disguises how lopsided it would otherwise look.
These are the only reason i wear a bra, i'm an aa cup and don't need any support.
Now my bum cheeks on the other hand...do they make bum bras?!

missbopeep · 21/08/2013 18:23

guardian

poppingin1 · 21/08/2013 18:23

I have the top one here for ditch digging, so I can see better.

I also have the third from the top is for those days when I have no pockets for my MP3 player. Its a bit difficult to reach the buttons in morning rush hour on a train though.

missbopeep · 21/08/2013 18:25

As shown in the link above- one of many on this man- he's not even a 'dr' in the medical sense- he is a PhD person, a sports scientist.

So there.

Executive toy - am rolling Po!

Good job I'm wearing my bra.

cardamomginger · 21/08/2013 19:29

Who is carrying out this research? Who is it funded by? NIH? Any of the Cancer Research institutes? Links please!

Can you provide a link to this French doctor's research? However, the fact that he has spent 15 years researching this, is no evidence of quality. Sound methods and robust analysis are more important than duration.

borraxohastaelalmanacer · 21/08/2013 20:00

I'm a 32D so reasonably small chested. I really like my breasts as they are a nice round shape and still very pert. I quite often go without a bra as I don't really need the support and find it more comfortable (the exception to this is obviously if I am working out etc!)
I don't think there is anything wrong per se with people noticing that you are not wearing a bra but believe that there is a time and a place for it. When I am in the office and wearing a thin or quite transparent top I often wear a cotton crop top or bandeau style top which are really comfy by offer a bit more coverage.

Lazysuzanne · 21/08/2013 20:21

he's just spent 15 years thinking about bosoms and decided to call it research...thats what I recon :o

BellEndTent · 21/08/2013 20:22

I'm very jealous. I can wear precisely nothing without a bra. Grin

coffeeinbed · 21/08/2013 21:26

I do.
I have few summer dresses I can get away with no bra.

MirandaWest · 21/08/2013 21:29

I've got 30C breasts which can easily not need a bra but I do generally wear one. No one tends to notice tbh

SundaySimmons · 21/08/2013 22:12

Sorry, not read thread but if you don't want the constraints of a normal bra, try the soft ones like this

Only a pound in Poundworld, in black, white and skin colour.

sussexmum38 · 21/08/2013 22:24

I am big in the nork area and can only be jealous of you smaller ladies. I would love to go bra less but they would trip me up. For those that can great, but my only issue, depending on the circumstances, would be erect nipples. If precautions are taken as has been suggested, go for it.
