Polarn o Pyret, Katvig - Brother lives in Sweden so has got me a little addicted to Scandinavian brands
Tiny Vikings - online lady who hand makes clothes in Scandinavian fabrics
Ebay for some Mini Boden
H&M occasionally, generally for trousers not tops as find they're a bit thin and cartoony
Sainsburys occasionally
Boden for swimwear
Little trekkers/POP for outdoor clothes

We're lucky that we get a lot of clothes handed down so I just add to funkier bits to his wardrobe where necessary

DesperateHousewife21 · 15/08/2013 13:45

Another who hadnt heard of half the brands in the op, are they poncy posh?

I shop at
Next
Gap
H&M
Zara
John Lewis

There's a woman on eBay who periodically sells off her daughter's wardrobe. Lucky for me, her daughter is a year older than mine so I always bid on these marvellous collections of clothes... this summer, she sold about 30 Bonpoint bikinis, some Ralph Lauren swimsuits, Melissa Odabash and Heidi Klein swimmers and coverups (with the explanation her daughter only wears them once each). There are then full outfits from the likes of Dior, Bonpoint, Burberry, Simonetta, Lilli Gaufrette etc etc. all divided into bundles - normally about 10 / 12 bundles a time each with about 10 items in. Every time she sells, I bid on several of them but every time they're sold for hundreds a pop - even so it's tens of thousands of pounds worth of clothes new. Eyewatering. Ludicrous in fact. ALl of it immaculate and hardly worn. Occasionally it's things like her ballet costumes - scores of them, all designer and gorgeous tutus (wonder what sort of ballet class that is? where's the polyester?) or new riding outfits. I'm fascinated and horrified by it all at once. Fur coats in winter.
I'd be interested to see what kind of child this is (and in less charitable moments, I think the woman surely must be shoplifting from Selfridges because nobody in their right mind would buy a small child 30 bikinis in one year, and let her wear them once each. Or not at all)

snowlie · 15/08/2013 13:54

My sil used to buy my niece her summer wardrobe from places like Kenzo - her seasonal budget was around £3k - the child looked catwalk ready, ridiculously overdressed and never played with any of her cousins, she just stood there looking sourly and pouting - at 8 years old....I felt so sorry for that kid.

Elsiequadrille · 15/08/2013 15:02

I forgot to add Oilily! We've bought lots of Oilily in the last two years. Though you seem to have to buy via pre order (as I do) as the best things sell out almost immediately.

Elsiequadrille · 15/08/2013 15:03

30 bikinis Shock

gazzalw · 15/08/2013 15:13

If you can afford to buy thirty bikinis for a DC why sell them on E-Bay???

This is ostentation gone mad.... Maybe this will be the way that Tamara and Petra Ecclestone go ;-(.

gazzalw · 15/08/2013 15:14

DW covets No Added Sugar for DD but really doesn't even think £50 is an acceptable amount to spend on a dress which DD is likely to get grease on the first time she wears it....

It seems to me that the more expensive the clothing item the more likely the DCs are to completely trash them....

HeliumHeart · 15/08/2013 15:23

Leopoldina - her name's not something like "Isabella's Wardrobe", is it? I have been known to scarf entire swathes of the stuff on offer there... and that reminds me I should have another look-see just in case she's selling again :)

I bought 5 pairs of girl's trousers from her last autumn - Bonpoint, Caramel Baby, Marie Chantal, CdeC... and it came to something like £30 for the lot. They were all immaculate, and what made me chuckle was that she added that all of them had only ever been handwashed at 30 degrees. Who DOES that?!

lurkingaround · 15/08/2013 15:28

snowlie Shock £3000 a season!!!
Even if I had it.....
How on earth could a child wear £3000 worth of clothes a season? £12000 a year? There aren't enough days in a season. I suppose each outfit is expensive. Gosh. My oh my.

Leopoldina · 15/08/2013 15:44

Helium- Isabella'as wardrobe is the one that always outbids me on this other woman's stuff! I think Isabella is a business and gets half her stock from 30 bikini woman

snowlie · 15/08/2013 16:04

To be fair I think it's £3k for spring/summer, and then another £3k for autumn/winter still obscene for a child at primary school.

Elsiequadrille · 15/08/2013 16:16

I suppose if she's paying approx £250 per dress, for example, then £3000 isn't going to buy very much. It seems excessive to me, personally.

hollyisalovelyname · 15/08/2013 16:21

Leopoldina I just don't understand people like that lady who buys so many expensive clothes for her child..... and there are so many hungry children in the world. Why can she not see that. There is only so much stuff you can have. It just makes me cross. Rant over

josiejay · 15/08/2013 16:43

Sainaburys have gorgeous kids' clothes - love the Autumn girls' stuff they've just got in - I usually wait for their regular 25% off everything events.

I love Frugi stuff, it's so soft and colourful, but a tad pricey for me so I tend to buy a few sizes ahead in the sale.

Next, but only in the sale where possible.

Asda for basics.

God I sound stingy.

I love a good ebay second hand bundle too.

Bunbaker · 15/08/2013 16:51

I haven't heard of any of those brands, but then I am not a "designer" person, nor do we have a "designer" income.

DD is 13 and tends to buy from New Look, H & M, Gap, M and Co and Tammy Girl. Next do a wide range of teen clothes online, but as DD needs to try things on before buying we don't bother.

dexter73 · 15/08/2013 16:57

hollyisalovelyname - she may donate just as many thousands of pounds to charities for starving children as she spends on clothes.

FranklymydearIdontgiveadamn · 15/08/2013 17:18

H&M and Zara are my favourite high street shops for the dc. I think Gap's quality is pure rubbish now compare to what it used to be. Next's clothes for children seem to be mini versions of adult wardrobes, I don't like it at all. M&S is good for basic s too. For nice stuff I like Oilily, Pampolina or Catimini. The Lego range is lovely and bright for boys, it can be hard to find nice colourful stuff for them. Anything I have bought from good labels has lasted and lasted.

IsabelleRinging · 15/08/2013 19:47

I had never heard of Bonpoint before reading about it on a thread earlier in the week. i had a a look but can honestly say don't really get it. Why would you want to dress your DCs entirely in beige?

BrandyAlexander · 15/08/2013 20:08

John Lewis, gap, M&S and pumpkin patch for about 80% of the dcs wardrobe. The balance tends to be presents from Sainsburys, Asda, Matalan, Primark, Ted Baker (dd), jasper conran (ds) and Zara. I really rate Sainsburys. When dd was a baby/toddler I used to get stuff from m&co as well as they did great dungarees and such like.

Most of the OPs list were new to me!

kiwik · 15/08/2013 21:48

I like the Scandinavian brands for clothes - Katvig, Polarn o Pyret, Ej Sikke Lej. The patterns and designs are funky and fun - better than the Naughty Monkey/Little Monster that's all over clothes here.
I've got some cashmere jumpers from Brora that have done all three DCs so far, and will be saved for the next ones too. Really good quality and so soft.
Jeans I tend to buy in Gap, as I've found my boys go through the knees so quickly in other brands.
This season I'm liking the boys tshirts in Monsoon. My DCs are mad on foxes and buses, so shall be buying those for them.

Bunbaker · 15/08/2013 22:43

DD is an only child so there was never any point in buying something that would last through several children. It has never occurred to me to buy her expensive designer clothes.

DesperateHousewife21 · 16/08/2013 07:01

oh yes forgot about Sainsburys, its also the only supermarket brand that sells on on ebay.

also Debenhams/ jasper conran/ blue zoo/ baby baker (my friend has just got a job there so 25% discount!)

chattychattyboomba · 17/08/2013 14:33

I'm back! Seems the thread has taken on a life if it's own Grin
I resent the 'more money than sense' comment... Bit ignorant! We're all different and I wasn't really asking for a debate about whether or not you think it's a good idea to spent money on clothing for kids or not.
And yes I do shop at these places, but not exclusively.
I have one DD - she is 2 years old and can get away with dressing her in smocked dresses, pinafores and bloomersWink when she tells me she would rather wear something else I will encourage her own individuality.
She gets covered in muck some days when at play group or doing craft or eating spaghetti etc for those days she wears play clothes (gap, Zara, jojo's etc) also, that's what bibs are for!
children's fashion is a bit of a hobby of mine. I also sew and make clothes for my DD.
and I love hearing about new labels, brands, stores and designers and like to get inspired by where other people shop.

P. yes I know Alex and Alexa is not a 'brand' Wink the question was where do you like to shop AND what are your favourite brands.
