Charity shop finds

Is there a thread already where we can post boast about any good charity shop finds? If so if someone could point me in the right direction I'd be very grateful, I like reading about what other people find.

Today I popped into a couple of local shops to get DD some old trousers to take camping. I found what I was looking for but also bagged myself:

A BNWT Monsoon top. Tag said £32 and I paid £3.95.
An unworn Phase Eight evening top in lovely shade of emerald green for £3.00.
Also an unworn casual white top from Jigsaw, with a silky panel in the front. Similar tops on their website are £40, this was £2.50.

Anyone else had any luck lately?

I picked up two White Stuff tops recently, one BNWT for £8 and the other for £2. I love trawling through charity shops Smile.

Oh I love this too! A few weeks ago I found a navy blue Masai Clothing Co dress for ?3. It fits like a glove and flatters in a way that my cheap clothes never do.

My new "style" obsession is soft floaty blouses worn with a chunky belt over a maxi skirt. I can experiment for a few quid and it's so much more fun than normal clothes shopping.

Love hearing about other peoples' bargains!

CerealMom · 10/08/2013 23:31

So many... all for few quids.

Jaeger silk t-shirt
Lots of Jigsaw skirts
Ralph Lauren cap sleeve cashmere jumper
More Jaeger shirts
White Stuff spotty shirt
Cute basket bag
Temperley skirt (not Somerset range)
Hobbs shirt
Pink shirt (brand, not colour)

Just a selection. Also loads of non-brand but cute stuff. Silk scarves, leather belts, small sewing machine. Basically, I'm not sure I'll ever use regular shops again. Or at least only for very specific items. I love charity shops.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 10/08/2013 23:59

Nope. I found a fantastic skirt the other day - bright yellow pleats, with pictures of Roman centurions all over it - but it was big enough to fit six of seven of me in.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 10/08/2013 23:59

six or seven

MorrisZapp · 11/08/2013 00:01

Tons of stuff but my recent fave is a pair of Monki high waist jeans I got for one pound fifty.

Also a denim skirt I've worn all summer.

Sharpkat · 11/08/2013 00:04

On this note, I have a black tie dress, size 18 from Phase eight BNWT £189 that I will never wear as I have lost weight. Would happily send it to someone who would use it and GENUINELY needs it as opposed to someone who is just going to eBay it as I am not clever enough to do that.

It is with straps, black, knee length and very pretty but not me and not my size.

PM me if interested but please do not take offence if I find a better cause. Smile

I have a pile of stuff on my spare bed that I shall list tomorrow. Free to a good home including postage. No idea how to post pics here and very limited time. If there is a good MN home for it to go to then more than happy to help. Smile

VeryDullNameChange · 11/08/2013 00:17

Honestly Sharpkat, why not just give it to Oxfam? They'll get a tenner for it (with luck) which will save actual lives, and a lovely size 18 Oxfam shopper will be very pleased with her bargain.

I was wearing a lovely charity shop ensemble today - M&S top and a skirt from a cheapo online brand I'd never heard of. I looked the biz. I love the "What the hell!" factor of chazza finds - I end up with stuff that I'd never pick in an actual shop and it's always the stuff I end up wearing the most, because it has sung to me from across a crowded room. My particular weakness is velvet jackets.

DD has just torn her Ralph Lauren velvet jeans while walking the dog Sad, but they were a fiver from FARA three years ago and she's worn them to death Smile.

Sharpkat · 11/08/2013 00:21

VeryDull - I would love to, but no charity shops for over 5 miles and I don't drive.

Put some in the Tesco clothing bank but a couple of days later caught a couple of guys fishing it out with coat hangers. Such a shame. Am so at a loss so would love a MNer to have the opportunity to wear it and use it over and over again as otherwise it will just go in the bin.

I still have some good stuff, barely worn or not worn and would like to give to a good cause (don't even get charity collections for NSPCC round here) than throw it away.

HerrenaHarridan · 11/08/2013 00:27

I have finally slimmed down to an 18 Blush and only have tent sized clothes and stuff from when I used to wear a ten Sad

I would happily pay postage for clothes you're too slim for Envy

VeryDullNameChange · 11/08/2013 00:28

Oh dear, that is a shame. Do you not have any friends with cars who could drop it off in the nearest big town (or Marks & Spencer's)

Sharpkat · 11/08/2013 01:18

Herrena - have pm'ed you.

OrangeLily · 11/08/2013 01:45

I went to a charity shop today and seen a really boring White Stuff t-shirt that was £25! I didn't see this as a bargain.

GeekInThePink · 11/08/2013 07:11

I recently went in all the charity shops in my town and found bugger all!
sulking

burberryqueen · 11/08/2013 07:15

in the past have found
Calvin Klein jeans
Aquascutum overcoat
Jaeger skirt
Jasper Conran child t-shirt sweater thing still with label

Clayhanger · 11/08/2013 07:21

My haul isn't as extensive as some, but:
Jigsaw skirt
Zara trouser suit
Hobbs linen dress
Thomas Pink shirt
Fever skirt

This has made me want to go and prowl some more!

KosherBacon · 11/08/2013 07:40

Where on earth are your charity shops? Notting Hill and Alderley Edge?!? There's nothing but tat in the ones I've ever been to.

burberryqueen · 11/08/2013 07:41

those items came from Stanmore, Brixton, Hove and Brighton....
Stanmore used to be amazing my mum used to make special trips to 'la fam' there, she said certain women cleared out their wardrobes 4 times a year.

rubyrubywoo · 11/08/2013 07:53

Ditto Kosher. The charity shops around here sell books with pages falling out so I won't hold out for any Zara or Ralph Lauren! :(

newpup · 11/08/2013 08:54

I have never bought clothes from a charity shop, my ocd would not let me!!! Grin But I have got a beautiful new Le Cruset heart dish, a new cream Garden Trading Co. window herb planter set. Several brand new boxes of notecards (really, lovely ones) and a lovely not new but hardly used designer, vintage, leather handbag.
On the other hand, I have gone from a size 22 to a size 12 and have given bags and bags of my old clothes to my local charity shop, lots of lovely expensive things, some never worn! Blush. I also have given all the Dds well cared for toys too. I hope someone enjoyed them!

BillStickersIsInnocent · 11/08/2013 09:27

A few good things:

Dark green cashmere sweater
Gap denim jacket
Zara silk skirt
M & S autograph dress
Fake fur stole
Small leather cross body satchel (Italian brand)

Also once saw a beautiful unworn with tags Ted Baker cream silk beaded 20s style dress. They were asking £30 for it, but still. If I was a size 8 I would have snapped it up. For the next half hour I was telling any random tiny women about it Grin

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 11/08/2013 10:42

I went to an Oxfam 'Vintage' store last week and they were trying to sell old Ted Baker dresses for £70 each!

Corygal · 11/08/2013 11:52

Having worked in yer fashion, I volunteer as Chief sorter in a charity shop (yes, we do pay for stuff too.) My top tips for bargains are:

  • Cashmere jerseys. Always check the jumper rail, there's usually one.
  • Be size 8-12, most people give clothes away that are too small.
  • But if you're not, take heart - expensive clothes tend to be in larger sizes. Jackets don't date as fast as other types of garment, so they can be good.
  • Never pay more than a tenner for anything; most don't exchange or refund. Ebay or a proper vintage shop instead.
  • Don't ever wear top to toe second hand; it can show/age you. Beef up chazza star buys with Primark tee shirts and things.
