men and their feet

DH needs new shoes of the non-toxic odour variety to replace the trainers he wears everyday, that smell like death and have holes in. As designated FEMALE I get to shop for new shoes. Mens summer shoes tho - wow they're ugly! Has anyone spotted any nice ones?

Sorry, sadly can't help but just wanted to say Grin at your description of the trainers!

intergalacticwalrus · 12/06/2006 13:43

No, they all look like longboats.

DP's shoes aren't even allowed in the house as they small so bad

Fimbo · 12/06/2006 13:43

LOL! Grin. My dh has several "work" shoes, a few pairs of boots for the winter and 2 pairs of trainers which are his "summer" shoes. Birkies/toeposts etc are just not his thing - he'd rather have sweaty trainers!

JackieNo · 12/06/2006 13:45

Doodles for men - that's what we need. Then we could just chuck them in the washing machine.

meowmix · 12/06/2006 13:46

we're moving to the middle east in 8 weeks... surely he can see that trainers are not the ideal? (plus will prob be banned under geneva convention on chemical/biological warfare soon)

I went to Jones, M&S and Zara. All vile.

meowmix · 12/06/2006 13:53

not so keep on the faux trainer look but yes better... what for smart tho?

OP posts:
JackieNo · 12/06/2006 13:55

How formal? To wear with a suit?

meowmix · 12/06/2006 14:05

no more smart casual, dreaded chinos and jacket-esque look

OP posts:
zoeuk1 · 12/06/2006 19:18

will he wear sandals. my dh has just bought two pairs from www.yoox.com. one pair are for wearing with more formal clothing. i really like it when my dh wears a good pair of trendy sandals with his linen trousers.

HarpsichordCarrier · 12/06/2006 19:22

oh god not sandals nooooooo
how about boat shoes? too awful to contemplate

meowmix · 13/06/2006 10:16

I don't think the world is quite ready for the sight of those hairy toes he hides away. Am going to be brave and venture out at lunchtime. I don't like feet all that much...

OP posts:
foxinsocks · 13/06/2006 10:20

I got dh a pair of casual shoes in M&S (I think). Dh doesn't do sandals and normally goes for those deck shoe things (and by gawd, do those get smelly) but managed to persuade him to get a more airy shoe. Think it was called airflex or something like that. I ummed and ahhed about them becuase they don't look great until you try them on and then they actually look ok.

MrsBadger · 13/06/2006 10:31

agree with the rankness of trainers in this weather, esp if worn with no socks - but then wearing socks with trainers and shorts looks terrible too...

DH wears flipflops - hasn't got out of the habit since his hippy student days. Reef surf-type ones for casual and leathery ones along \link{http://www.shoesdirect.co.uk/acatalog/Shoesdirect_Bottino__Large_Sizes_Avail__798.html\these} lines for slightly nicer, including chinos-and-untucked-shirt occasions.

For chinos-and-jacket I don't think you've got many options as I don't think you can really get away with bare toes. Proper shoes in brown or tan suede or leather, or \link{http://www.clicksitebuilder.com/home2/mt/menshoenet.com/images/c/clarks-desert-boot-sand-405h.jpg\desert boots} are better than anything cut low like loafers or boat shoes, because you can wear socks to absorb some of the sweat and keep the shoes in better nick. Socks with boat shoes etc are just wrong.

MrsBadger · 13/06/2006 10:34

...though have just spotted \link{http://www.shoesdirect.co.uk/acatalog/Shoesdirect_Vesuvius_1371.html\these}, which I agree look slightly weird but are well ventilated without exposing horny toenails, so would work in more situations than open-toed sandals.

foxinsocks · 13/06/2006 10:37

these are the \link{http://www.marksandspencer.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Merchant_Id=1&Section_Id=1437&Product_Id=2014221\ones} I got dh.

They look strange and more like a shoe ds would wear Wink but actually once on, they look really nice with the dreaded casual look. And my goodness, do they smell better than boat shoes/casual shoes worn with no socks!

MrsBadger · 13/06/2006 10:40

ooh, they're not bad foxy, - same theory as the last Clarks ones I found.

SSSandy · 13/06/2006 10:51

Generally I think men's feet should be covered up! However for the Middle East, I'd make an exception. Kind of hot there.... They'll all be wearing more stylish versions of leather flip flops. Something like that? Or Birkenstocks?

meowmix · 13/06/2006 11:03

he's threatened to leave me if I bring him back flipflops (oh the temptation...).

in theory I can see that all these shoes are fine, but my god I do find them f-ugly. Esp in giant size needed to accommodate DH's hobbitlike toes.

I did suggest he buy his own shoes but he looked so horrified... bless.

OP posts:
SSSandy · 13/06/2006 11:05

men's toes are so ugly aren't they?

meowmix · 13/06/2006 11:07

just grim. I love him all the way down to his ankles.

OP posts:
womblingalong · 13/06/2006 11:14

Meowmix

That's exactly what I say to my DH, I love you from the ankles up!
