It's an Orla Kiely Dancing Girl tea dress at £335.

MrsPennyapple · 24/07/2013 08:57

I liked it too. I (correctly) assumed it would be out of my price range.

MoreThanWords · 24/07/2013 08:57

It was lovely - I knew there would be a thread about it on here lol. Oh, for the lifestyle where I could afford wear a dress like that ......

TunipTheVegedude · 24/07/2013 08:59

LOL, I thought it would be pricey. I liked it too, then thought I must be really middle aged if I'm coveting not Kate Middleton's clothes but Kate Middleton's mum's.
I think I will have to get my sewing machine out.

CambridgeBlue · 24/07/2013 09:10

I loved it too but even if I could afford it there's no way I'd carry it off, sadly tea dresses make me look like a cross between a busty barmaid and an oversized child. CM looked fab in it though.

LadyMilfordHaven · 24/07/2013 09:10

oh fgs
its an OLD LADY DRESS

RoseFlowerFairy · 24/07/2013 09:12

I find Kate and Pippa wear similar clothes to their Mum.

scratchandsniff · 24/07/2013 09:14

Oh there goes LadyMilford with her fgs again. Do you 'fgs/ffs' on every thread you go on?

I thought it was a lovely dress and that CM looked great (I'm in my early 30's).

RoseFlowerFairy · 24/07/2013 09:16

Blimey really Scratchandsniff? every thread ffs/fgs?

Snazzyenjoyingsummer · 24/07/2013 09:20

She does usually appear with a sniffy comment of some kind. On form I see.

I also liked the dress. Surely Primark or someone will now do a copy loving tribute?

AKissIsNotAContract · 24/07/2013 09:23

I agree with Lady. It's awful, really frumpy.

WandaDoff · 24/07/2013 09:27

She's right.

My MIL had a wardrobe full of dresses like that.

CambridgeBlue · 24/07/2013 09:27

I think it has the potential to look frumpy - it definitely would on me - but she carried it off really well imo.

bunnymother · 24/07/2013 09:32

I actually thought it made her look a bit heavy and the colour was dull. But, actually, what a mean observation from me on such a happy occasion for her. She is quite fresh faced - I admire how she has kept her looks and figure. She may have had some help, but the end result is good.

yegodsandlittlefishes · 24/07/2013 09:32

Had to go and look this up to see what the fuss is about. Lovely dress, looks great on Mrs Middleton.

Imagine doing the fun things with a grandchild (feeding them messy, sticky chocolate cake, playing in leaves, hide and seek and reading stories) knowing they are a future king of England. How many times will he get sticky finger marks over expensive clothes? Grin

mrspaddy · 24/07/2013 09:36

It looked lovely on Mrs Middleton. Beautiful on her. I wouldn't pay that for it though, even if I had it. Perfect for the occasion though. A little mumsy perhaps, for someone younger.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 24/07/2013 09:39

How old is she? It looks fine on her and fine for the occasion, but it is a frumpy shape and length and personally I'd look like a sack of potatoes in it. It's quite dull. If I had £335 to spend on a dress, I'd get something much nicer.

MrsPennyapple · 24/07/2013 09:56

It fits her well, the fabric drapes beautifully, it looks well made. What's frumpy about that? It may look frumpy on some, but it suits her.

Mail Online reckons it would have cost £160 - still out of my price range.

Levantine · 24/07/2013 09:58

I think Orla Kiely designs some really nice clothes, but that is super frumpy

Levantine · 24/07/2013 09:59

But as Remus says, entirely appropriate for the occasion

RussiansOnTheSpree · 24/07/2013 10:07

It isn't frumpy at all. In any way shape or form. It's people who are frumpy, not clothes. If you look frumpy in a dress, but that dress looks lovely on others then you can't blame the dress. The dress looks fine on CM. Frumpiness or glamour or anything in between comes from the person, not the clothes.

JugglingFromHereToThere · 24/07/2013 10:23

I thought it looked good - what was the pattern ? birds ?

TunipTheVegedude · 24/07/2013 10:23

I can see it would look frumpy on some people, but things look different on different people.

buttercrumble · 24/07/2013 10:56

She looked amazing for her age not frumy at all Smile

CharlotteBronteSaurus · 24/07/2013 11:03

is carole quite petite, or do orla kiely dresses come up quite long?
if the latter I will start saving - it's so hard to find dresses of a work-appropriate length if you are tall.
