So I just measured by bra size and I'm shocked, is it right?

I measured under and I'm 34. Well I'm 33.5. That is taut, completely flat to skin.

When I do the lean over measurement (which made dh smirk) I measured 41inches.

Am I right thinking that makes me 34E?

I have teeny (saggy and deflated) bosoms!

marking place again, thread fell off my list Smile

Thanks for your tips before. Ended up having a fitting in Bravissimo. None of my pre-pregnancy styles fitted, even in a larger size. I ended up with a 32G Bravissimo Alana in black and nude. Will hold off for a bit longer to allow my post breastfeeding boobs to settle a little bit before buying anymore.

holycowwhatnow · 20/08/2013 00:37

Going bra shopping tomorrow. I'm 32.5 under and 39.5 around. What should I try on please?

CelticPromise · 20/08/2013 07:51

holycow start with a 32F and sizes around. What have you been wearing?

holycowwhatnow · 20/08/2013 08:32

Thx. Been wearing 36c but have lost weogjt on my back but not my boobs. I'm spilling out of my c cup.

Try 28G and 30F and sizes around that.

Can I ask for some help?

Was in M&S-fitted 36C until last week. Very comfy, but little support. Had shoulder straps at loosest setting because you are supposed to get the support from the band, aren't you? and if I had them tighter the band would ride up (what with it being far too large and all!)

Now in HoF-fitted Royce 32DD which feels much more supportive, and I can tighten the shoulder straps such that they provide a bit of extra lift without the band riding up.

But my neck / shoulders / upper back area is hurting, and I think it's because I am stooping a bit, which I think might be because the shoulder straps are pulling which I think might be because the cup is too small so I'm trying to create room for my breasts. Plausible? Or are my shoulder straps too tight? How do you adjust them to fit, anyway?

We're talking non-underwired nursing bras, if it makes any difference.

PrincessYoni · 20/08/2013 14:17

I measured 27.5 under and 37.5 leant over. Would this make me a 28H? Shock

RubberBullets · 20/08/2013 14:32

Honestly these 'large' cup sizes aren't that large.

RubberBullets · 20/08/2013 14:32

Spindelina have you scooped?

CelticPromise · 20/08/2013 14:37

28GG for starters Princess.

Spindelina what are your actual measurements? It's much harder to get decent support from a soft cup bra, but I'm wondering if the back is still too big.

CelticPromise · 20/08/2013 14:38

Afternoon Rubber Smile

Spindelina · 20/08/2013 14:38

Rubber, I've tried, but I don't really have anything to scoop. The reason I'm not a 28 is broad shoulders, not padding - my padding is on my thighs! No backfat issues.

Spindelina · 20/08/2013 14:42

Celtic - back is 31. Tried 30 and 32 bands on backwards, and the 30 was really uncomfortable, though could be just because I'm not used to it. The 32 is leaving attractive red marks, though!

RubberBullets · 20/08/2013 14:44

If you put it on back to front, how far away from your body can you pull it?

Spindelina · 20/08/2013 14:50

I can get the gore (is that the bit of the bra or the bit of me? the middle bit of the front of the bra) a bit less than 2 inches away from my spine if I pull really hard.

CelticPromise · 20/08/2013 14:52

What's your dangle measurement? If the cup is not quite big enough it'll make the band feel tight.

RubberBullets · 20/08/2013 14:56

Band sounds ok to me so probably the cup needs looking at.

needasilverlining · 20/08/2013 15:02

OMG Shock

Trip to Debehams this morning. Tried 30DD in Floozie and Gorgeous. The bands both fitted tightly but well, and after scooping like mad, the Floozie balconette actually looked a bit small - sadly they didn't have a 30E to compare - and the Gorgeous one looked amazing (I didn't buy it because fabric was fugly, but still).

TK Maxx had ONE 30DD, a Passionata plunge style which was lovely and only 6.99. So I now have one decent bra but am so cross that I've been wearing the wrong ones for 23 years.

Conclusions:

  1. M&S is shite and I will never own another item of underwear from there
  2. Bra self-measuring MUST be shared with every woman I know, even if they think I'm a weird obsessive
  3. You ladies are Bra Goddesses Smile

BTW I think plunge/half cup is better than balcony for me because my norks aren't v full (post bf x 2), does that sound right?

Dangle is 36 ish but depends on time of day! I think that might be the problem - I think there was some space in the fitting room that isn't always there. The 32E was huge in the cup, but there was exactly one style of white nursing bra to choose from.

I suspected cups too small because I never got backache with my completely unsupportive M&S bras, and I don't get backache with no bra, so I don't see how lack of support from this smaller band can be causing my neck to hurt. And it is my neck / shoulders / very very top of back, rather than any lower down.

Can I ask my original question again (whether or not this is my problem): How are you supposed to adjust the shoulder straps?

RubberBullets · 20/08/2013 15:21

Needs, before you found out about the correct way of measuring would you have said a DD is big? How do you feel about that now?
