Another former "A-cup" has been converted!

I finally clicked on one of the bra threads and was shocked to hear that there's only ever been one true A-cup on here.

I have always thought of myself as a 36A. But, I tried the measuring thing and got 35" X 38".

Could I really be a 34C??

Well, I tried one on at Asda, and it fit much better than I would have ever imagined. It was a little tighter than I'd like, but the cups were perfect. A 36C wasn't as smooth a fit. I didn't have time to try on other styles. But, when I get the chance, I am going to find a bra that is suitable in a 36C.

Quick help needed for my mum. 34/43 would that be a 34h as a starting point?

StatisticallyChallenged · 31/07/2013 20:13

34G

GlaikitFizzog · 31/07/2013 20:14

G, great thank you!

Kernowgal · 31/07/2013 20:58

Back to the bra shops for me again - been wearing 36B for years and years but realised I was falling out of bras and often had quadraboob.
Measured a while ago as per instructions on here and was coming up as a 34D, (34" under, 38" over) which seemed to fit quite nicely. Lost some weight so measured again last night and if tape is quite tight underboob then I'm 32" with a 37" overboob (38" if quite loose). I do not have big baps by any stretch but they are quite wide, and I think I too am possibly shallow of boob.

So am going to try 32DD and E when I go into town tomorrow afternoon, and see how they look.

I tried to convert my mum (she wears a 36B and she is absolutely tiny) but she wasn't having any of it. "I know my bra size!"

Kernowgal · 31/07/2013 20:59

Also: how often do you ladies replace your bras? Mine see a lot of washing as I do a physical, often sweaty job, and I'm already thinking of replacing those I bought about this time last year. Is that normal?

StatisticallyChallenged · 31/07/2013 21:20

Completely normal Kernowgal - if you are hard on your bras and wear them a lot (i.e. don't have hundreds of them!)then they can easily need replaced every 6 months or so

nettie · 31/07/2013 21:42

Ok, pretty sure I've figured out what size bra I should be wearing (32f if you interested!), just need to find somewhere that sells them without breaking the bank and offers something other than those moulded cup things, because they are never moulded to the shape of my breasts. We've got a John Lewis locally, tend to look only when got a sale on, just been looking at the bravissimo sale but its all fancy stuff and still rather expensive, just want nice plain bras that fit, arghh!

StatisticallyChallenged · 31/07/2013 21:58

Try Brastop, mycurvesandme, Leia, Amazon, Debenhams...

angelinajelly · 31/07/2013 22:15

I'd just like to thank the bra ladies. I have always absolutely hated bra shopping- it made me feel totally inadequate schlepping round trying to find the 34A that looked least empty with my poor little boobs in it. It's amazing how much difference it has made just to my confidence having a proper size- for the first time the other day when I was shopping, when bras didn't fit I was wondering whether it was the bras that were wrong rather than me. And I've just spent an hour in Debenhams choosing between 4 styles of strapless bra, all of which fitted fine and looked good, and getting to pick the one I liked the best, rather than the least worst! Ended up with a 30DD, and got the assistant to double check it was the right size- she agreed that the cup was a perfect fit. Thank you bra ladies!

TotallyEggFlipped · 01/08/2013 09:08

Can anyone help? - I've measured myself and I get 29 under and 35 over. All my bras are 32/34 B/C. I'm guessing I'm way out!
I'm also going to try and get my mum to try a new size. She's 35 1/2 under and 45 over. I think she wears 38D/DD following an M&S fitting.
Thank you

SorrelForbes · 01/08/2013 09:22

TotallyEggFlipped Try a 28F/E and a 30E/DD. Your mum should try a 34H/GG and a 36GG/G.

TotallyEggFlipped · 01/08/2013 09:29

Thank you SorrelForbes. We're off shopping this afternoon.

Wilding · 01/08/2013 09:32

Another person saying a massive THANK YOU Thanks

I've been wearing 36A & 34B cups forever, but having measured myself properly (and confirmed it by trying on some bras in shops) it turns out I'm a 32D! Totally Shock to be honest as my boobs don't look that big and they're very perky so I didn't think I was big enough to need much support but I can't tell you how amazing it feels trying on bras that fit. Have diagnosed myself as another shallow/wide rooted person so thanks for the tips on that too.

Going to have a little splurge in John Lewis at lunchtime - I can't wait to throw away all my old bras! I've pretty much just been wearing crop tops for the last year as I found all my bras so uncomfortable.

SorrelForbes · 01/08/2013 09:41

Enjoy your bra shopping both!

coconutty did you try the 34 back to front? I would think a 36 will be too big. If you can fasten the 34 on the loosest hooks and breathe, try going up a cup size or two, so 34F/FF. Be aware that M&S sizing seems to be erratic and Debenhams Gorgeous range come up small in the band.

If you did it up behind you the cups might have made it feel too small iyswim. Try a 34 back to front just to test- get the band size right and then work on the cups. The band shouldn't be loose enough to swivel easily, the back to front thing is just a test. John Lewis will hopefully have a decent range for you to try.

Passthecake30 · 01/08/2013 13:57

Ladies....how long will it take me to get used to my mega boobs! Went from a 32dd to a 30ff and I swear they are getting in the way ha ha. Though I have been told by do that I am "perky" so very pleased with that :-)

1gglePiggle · 01/08/2013 23:51

Is it normal for the band to feel really tight and a bit painful? I measure 31 around so got 32 in Freya deco which makes boobs look fab but its really uncomfortable and this is non wired! Don't really want to buy wired in this size as will be even worse! Checked sizing with JL lady and she said it fitted and I'd done a good job finding right size myself!

SorrelForbes · 01/08/2013 23:58

It depends whether the cup size is right. I measure 29.5" under bust and have a 30 Deco which is very roomy. At 31", a 32 should be easily big enough but the fit could be being skewed by too small a cup.

Having said all that, non-wired bras are funny things to fit. The centre gore hardly ever lies flat IME. JL can be hit and miss with fitting too.

What do you measure across (no bra, leaning forward at 90 degrees to floor)?

CelticPromise · 02/08/2013 07:52

I have found the band on non wired bras to dig in more than underwired. Not sure why, it feels as though the lack of structure puts additional pressure on it or something. So try wired, you might be pleasantly surprised!

starlingsintheslipstream · 02/08/2013 08:04

Have been a lurker on these threads and it was inevitable I would post eventually!

I ordered some 34Gs from Bravissimo. The first two arrived and I was a bit disillusioned - one was a plunge and I didn't seem to fill it so that's going back. The next was a Juna, which was better but not great. I was going to keep that. But then I received the balconette, a Freya, I think and it's a really good fit so I'm going to exchange the other two.

Do you think it's a fair bet that other balconette styles will be a similar fit and are there any other makes in a balconette style you would recommend? Thanks!

SorrelForbes · 02/08/2013 10:50

Unfortunately, every brand/style tends to fit slightly differently. It's very annoying!

Which bra have you decide to keep? The Juna is a balconette so can you describe what wasn't right about the fit?

starlingsintheslipstream · 02/08/2013 10:56

The Juna just gaped a little at the top, though it may have been the lace that gave that impression I guess. So it's just trial and error really isn't it?

I'm really pleased with the Freya. I'm wearing it now and it's really comfy so I may just get a different colour in that.

Thanks to all the posters who take the time to offer advice on these threads. It has been a real revelation.
