Okay, fat people, what are you wearing in this heat??

People, I am fat, and hardly any of my summer clothes fit me. I need to keep my arms and lower legs covered (psoriasis, varicose veins). I am wearing jeans and long sleeved shirts, and I feel huge, hot and horrible. What can I wear??? I have ordered a couple of maxi dresses and shrugs to cover my arms. What else? I went in Evans the other day but the huge display of polyester smocks was just depressing.

Meanwhile I am digging out my zoe harcombe book in hopes of a quick detox but know it will not work miracles.

Any advice welcome!

I've got a couple of maxi dresses, not sure if that was a mistake now as I've not worn them yet; will I be regretting it when I go on holiday?

I love this thread, I thought I was the only one who worried about standing up and leaving sweat marks from my sweaty arse! I am not alone

Today I am wearing a long tiered patterned skirt and a loose cotton top but I also do the tunics/dresses with leggings or linen trousers with tshirt/vests. Am a sort arse so tend to avoid maxi dresses

Lovely floaty maxi skirts and dresses (I'm 5'10" and size 16) worn with little bolero shrugs to hide batwings and and/or fine-knit long cardis to hide bum. Pretty flat strappy sandals and a nice pedicure!

I've lost some weight this year, but discovered the joys of wearing loose (go up a size) lycra-mix cycling shorts instead of knickers under maxis when I was very heavy a couple of years ago. They are hideous and grannyish but OMG they are SO comfy! You can walk for miles without sweaty thighs rubbing together and chafing! They also absorb sweat from around the nether parts, so no incriminating damp patches either.

Just get those arms and legs out people!!

Out in Liverpool yesterday and there were women from size 6 to size 36 wearing all kinds ranging from shorts and vests to full on jeans/leggings with long sleeved tops.

The ones that looked most uncomfortable were the women covered up from head to toe, and the ones looking cool and lovely were all in shorts and dresses, no matter what their size.

Chopped off leggings under skirts are dresses. Very thin harem pants things, they're surprisingly cool

I second / third the anti-perspirant between the thighs thing. Roll / spray liberally along pant line and wherever thighs touch. Have a rash / rub / puddle free day.

And I do like leggings under dresses - they are like groovy modern day modesty bloomers.

I thought that exposing psoriasis to the sun was good for it?

Loose clothing is key. I wore a tight vest top yesterday and felt much cooler when I changed into a loose one. Obvious I know, but it really does make a difference. The idea of wearing leggings/jeggings/skinny jeans in this heat is not worth contemplating.

I agree with WhoNickedMyName. Does it really matter if you show those arms and legs off? If you are overweight you will still look overweight covered up, so why not be cool and comfortable?

Oddly I can't wear vest tops in the heat - my armpits get seriously mingy unless there's a layer of cotton covering them. Is it just me?

Maybe I should grow my armpit hair and that would do instead.

For people wearing tunics or dresses where did you get them from I'm desperately trying to find any with little sleeves I refuse to get the very tops of my arms out

I'm fat - wore these lightweight cropped trousers today with a short sleeved fitted but not tight coral cotton tshirt and felt as cool as I could have been really.

You could have a few pairs of trousers like that in different colours and some tshirts like this, or for something a bit smarter some chino-type trousers rolled up at the ankles, wedge sandals and a fitted cotton shirt, three quarter length sleeves or rolled up, like this.

Midi or maxi dresses in cotton with cotton cycling shorts underneath, a little thin cardi if it's sleeveless and you don't want to show the tops of your arms.

Wishful - try yours clothing. Lots of tunics and slightly longer dresses. Yes there are some frumpy things but I love lots of their things and their leggings especially are lovely :)

You could wear them with a camisole or vest?
And nice sandals or wedge heels?

After reading this thread I threw caution to the wind and wore the maxi dress that I got for my holiday; I thought I looked terrible but I got three compliments :) :)
Be brave ladies and wear what you fancy.

Cotton trousers and a short sleeve tunic.which doesn't go with them!
Just in house and garden, if I was in public it would be linen skirt (long) and tee shirt

I've been wearing this dress today, with flat strappy sandals and sunnies. Was with friends sat outside a riverside pub and got loads of compliments (makes a change, ha).

oh and it looks much nicer on than in the pic...kind of shapely but not clingy and is very comfy.

Used deodorant on my inner thighs to prevent chafing - can't bear those 'comfort shorts' - too sweaty.

Im a 22-24 - today i wore a floaty yellow strappy vest top thing and some 3/4 length black pants - it was lovely and cool (well it was until i got 2nd degree sun burn) but for work i wear slightly bigger vest tops with either leggings, rolled up or cargo pants which can be rolled up to 3/4 length or above the knee.

I tried a maxi once - never again! Im basically 5ft3 so i just looked like a gazebo, i do have a nice waterfall dress thing that i wear for special occasions and i also have a couple of pairs of shorts i wear in the garden/at my parents house - i find if i keep my feet cool im alright so lots of sandals/flip flops/bare feet

fairy lovely clothes in Yours this summer lots of pretty cotton gypsy tops and cotton skirts.

In Rome at moment - even hotter than here. Have several really nice short-sleeved cotton dresses from Boden ( not the big bright patterns) - and thy are so cool .

Lanacane stops any rubbed legs. On feet a pedicure and thick-soled ( to cope with cobbles) but smart sandals.
I like summer and sun and light clothes much better than winter.
