Has anyone seen the 3-piece swimsuit George at Asda are selling?

Similar to the hooded top/leggings outfit Nigella was seen in on holiday, asda are offering a 3 piece set for £25. Just cant imagine being comfortable in it, and if you were wearing it to disguise a less than perfect figure, I think you would end up attracting more attention. Would you buy one????

I certainly couldn't imagine trying to actually swim in the blessed thing, would remind me too much of doing my bronze/silver/gold swimming medals where you had to wear a pair of pyjamas to swim 50 odd lengths and then go diving for bricks, then take off the bottoms and tie a knot at the end of each leg before blowing them up to use them as a float.

Who thought of these 'tests' - must have been someone with a strange sense of humour as I have yet to see a report on the news or in the paper of someone falling into a river/stream/pool or any other body of water and being rescued clutching a brick whilst clinging onto their inflated pj bottoms. And its many a year since I had the pleasure of trawling up and down a pool in pj's to earn my medals ...............

that link is not working

ClipClap · 24/06/2013 00:22

Maybe it's designed for ladies who need to cover us for cultural/religious reasons? It doesn't look bad at allIMO, a bit like a wetsuit.

SusuwatariToes · 24/06/2013 00:27

Maybe it is for people who do not, for religious reasons, expose their bodies in public. It means they can swim at the beach! Or people allergic to sunlight, or albino people?

kikid · 24/06/2013 00:27

very modest & only available in black..
sweating like the proverbial!!

SusuwatariToes · 24/06/2013 00:27

X-post!

Arisbottle · 24/06/2013 00:27

I wondered the same clipclap, it is the hood that looks odd.

500internalerror · 24/06/2013 00:35

I Quite like it - not for swimming in though!

Startail · 24/06/2013 00:37

I've seen Asian ladies swimming in black leggings and modest tops, that's just taking it one steep further.

ASDA is the shop of choice for that community in my nearest city.

lollylaughs · 24/06/2013 07:55

These are designed for Muslim ladies, called an abaya.

SquidgyMummy · 24/06/2013 08:00

How awful having to swim in that.
aLthough when we were in thailand I borrowed DP's rash vest to swim in as the sun was so strong - it was white thought

VioletGoesVintage · 24/06/2013 11:28

My SIL wears something like that to the swimming pool. She's Muslim (observant) and, for her, it would be a choice of wear something like that or don't swim. And I don't think they're awful to swim in at all. Not much different to a wet suit which, in turn, is nothing like swimming in clothes.

She hasn't mentioned any funny looks so I guess none of you lot live near her Wink.

ShatnersBassoon · 24/06/2013 11:34

I don't think it's awful. It solves a problem.

Startail · 24/06/2013 11:37

Yes, I think it's sad to have to swim in clothes like that. I think it's a real shame our local pool had to compromise it's design to have a separate pool away from the spectators gallery. Although I suspect their are schools, disabled groups and older ladies who also appreciate the privacy, I know my mother would have.

However, I think not facilitating small freedoms like accommodating modesty while swimming does these women and their DCs even more harm.

Startail · 24/06/2013 11:44

X post with Violet

Yes far better to feel able to swim, take exercise and have fun with your DCs than not be able to swim at all.

The place I've seen young woman in modest swim wear was Water world, where their DCs were having a Whale if a time going on the chutes.

Such clothes are fine to swim in, I burn and live in a rash vest on holiday, DDs have sun suit suitand don't have any problems.

Bakingnovice · 24/06/2013 11:45

I want one! But know I will look a bit of a tool in it. I burn v easily and spend all holiday in the shade. This would provide a bit more protection. If you holiday in Dubai or Oman the pool is full of v rich women swimming in these outfits. They are not difficult to swim in, from what I observed.

EliotNess · 24/06/2013 12:51

i can bloody see a hole for your face though

justasecond · 24/06/2013 13:28

Startail why is it "sad" to have to swim in clothes like that? why does it make you unhappy if women choose to wear this sort of thing?

EliotNess · 24/06/2013 13:35

i dont think i would mind if men wore it too ;) but they dont do they

melodycool · 24/06/2013 13:58

Just what I've been looking for - thanks OP. I've ordered one - should keep me suitably covered :)

HoneyDragon · 24/06/2013 14:05

There were a couple of people wearing that at centrepieces. It looked really pretty, couldn't believe when the lady said it was Asda, it looks more expensive than £25.

Yes. I had despaired on getting a nice swimming costume without a stupid high leg. Got one from Avon in the end.

xTillyx · 24/06/2013 16:41

I'd wear something like that if it didn't have the hood bit, that's clearly for religious purpose. Although I wonder if it keeps your hair dry, hate using the dryers at swimming.
