Interview dress needed - primary teacher

HesneyChalks · 21/06/2013 18:54

Could anyone help please? I have an interview on Tuesday and I really want ti get a new dress but not sure what to buy. Inspiration needed!

It is for a Year 1 job, so needs to be ok for kneeling and bending down with the children during the teaching bit, but obviously interview smart too.

I am 5'10", size 16 (post baby!) with hips, smallish waist and as I'm still bfing, bigish boobs!!

I have a black buttonless blazer that I would probably wear with it, and flat black shoes. I like wrap style dresses, I think they suit me. Colours-wise, I am a brunette with slightly tanned skin, but not very. Normally get a number 2 in foundation if that helps!! Oh, and I'm 28 if that makes any difference! As I'm on smp, cost needs to be below £50 if possible, but could stretch!

Can anyone help?! Pooh, also I need to be able to buy it in a shop by Monday, can travel to Brighton/ Chichester/Horsham forshops.

Thank you in advance if your wonderful s+b help :)

Hello. Try the Phase Eight sale. There are some wrap dresses in it if you can get to a store or department store with a concession. I swear by them for work.

AuntySib · 21/06/2013 19:15

Wouldn't wear a wrap dress - risks potential flashing, especially when bending/kneeling. Being big busted myself, I find they often display cleavage, which is not really appropriate in a school setting.
You might find something in Wallis sale - bought a very nice black and white print straightish, knee length dress there for £20 the other day.

soupmaker · 21/06/2013 19:19

Good point about flashing, which is why I always get the wrap dresses which have the inside 'wrap' fixed iykwim. Can you get to a John Lewis? I often find sale bargains in there. Check their website and see if you can collect in store so you can try on and return if useless.

soupmaker · 21/06/2013 19:20

Oh, and and cleavage will need to e covered by a coordinating vest!

HesneyChalks · 21/06/2013 19:22

Thank you - I will take a look at both of your suggestions! I'm only a 36c I think at the moment, so not massive, but feels much bigger than my usual 35a! I am definitely more of a pear than an hourglass. Do you still think wrap dresses are probably a no-no? I forgot to say I normally wear a vest underneath. Smile

Ah, cross post with the vest info! Smile

Gah, my message got deleted by my fat fingers. Hmm

I think JL do next day delivery to waitrose, meaning I could get something online there. Will take a look...

Am obviously not a 35a...that doesn't exist...36a.

What about something with a looser/fuller skirt which would be easier to bend down in? For example, it's now OOS but this is nice

tethersend · 21/06/2013 19:43

Could you do a 14? This is great.

Grey

StatisticallyChallenged · 21/06/2013 19:43

Dress you just linked to is lovely

Too much?

Dress is ok, but would not wear navy with black. Could you go without a jacket?

StatisticallyChallenged · 21/06/2013 19:49

I have that dove print one in my wish list - so I'm biased. But I agree, wouldn't wear it with black.

HesneyChalks · 21/06/2013 19:52

Ooh will look at the bra thing Stat - thanks!

Yes, dislike the fuller skirt, as long as it's long enough because I am a bit tall and generally I need something that is knee length for school.

I do like the look of some of those, thank you! Probably want to keep arms covered though...

Yes, you are right about navy and black of course... I really do need to have a jacket for the formal interview bit though. If I went for something g navy what colour right would I need?! And would I need a navy jacket?!? Ah, am lost!

Thanks...for all your help so far though.

I'm wearing the dove print one for a teaching interview! No jacket though. Got it, following advice here, for my dad's funeral recently, but feel right in it. It's not cleavage or knickers - flashy.

HesneyChalks · 21/06/2013 19:53

Meant do like fuller skirt...not dislike

StatisticallyChallenged · 21/06/2013 19:55

I wouldn't necessarily wear a jacket tbh - I'm not a teacher but I have done some pretty smart interviews in dresses only. I think it's ok if the dress has sleeves

tethersend · 21/06/2013 20:00

black?

HesneyChalks · 21/06/2013 20:04

Ooh I'm glad people like the dove print one. Judy - is your interview on the south coast? Imagine wearing same dress as the other candidate! Blush

Tether - I like the black you just linked too, but not sure how flattering the slash front is.

Maybe you are right about not needing the jacket...

OP posts:
HesneyChalks · 21/06/2013 20:05

Meant not sure how flattering it is on me.

OP posts:
Judyandherdreamofhorses · 21/06/2013 20:06

Ha ha, no it's not! That would be dreadful. Worse than wearing the same dress at a party as there'd be so few of us!

Good luck.

scarlettsmummy2 · 21/06/2013 20:19

I wore this to an interview last week and got the job! Really nice on.
